Charlie Barr came up with the idea, and the can isnt a goal or a gimmick. It's a way to build excitement and momentum following a great play.

So they have to revert to a garbage can to get ecited? What’s wrong with putting the Highlands uniform on.

Quite obvious that they have forgotten  who they represent. It’s a gimmick imo, the program is real and speaks for itself and doesn’t need a gimmick , jmo.

Charlie Barr retired before half these kids were even  born, are you sure we are talking about the same guy?

I kind of like the turnover can. I think the kids enjoyed it too.  I enjoy the traditional things as well running around the goal post etc. Most teams do have some sort of turnover chain, though.

I don’t have a problem with the Tin Can as I see it as something each team wants to do that distinguishes them from the other teams.

Usually one looks for something when those before you has something better than you. At Highlands you must at least achieve excellence before you revert to a gimmick to try and feel special about yourself.

I guess everyone sets there own goals.

But again its over thank God. Time to stop beating a dead horse and move on. Hopefully the "selection committee" of whoever it's made up of will make the right decision. Is the committee made up of any influential alumni who wore the uniform or is it mostly people with in the buddy system at the school. I also heard something like someone wanted to auction off a spot to be on the committee... If that's true that is sad as well.

The auction part is despicable if true but let’s hope not. Yes, thank God that chapter is over.

You are not kidding!!  It is very comical & unbelievable.

Actually it really is a joke that we are even going through this right now.

Another poster put it out there when he said Dale handed over the keys to the Ferrari and someone crashed it driving it to the Sweetheart dance, Well it went something like that😂

It’s actually comical reading some of this. Actually someone texted me 2 days ago and said they heard they were naming a Coach today. It’s unbelievable what some people will come up with. Especially when we have no clue how it works.

I actually have someone very close to me that is keeping me posted on the process. His family actually has 2 members  on the committee and I will trust what he is telling me about who the next coach will be.

Train wreck?  Based on social media of current players & recent players, it sure didn’t sound like they thought their program & experiences were a train wreck.  And, the players who showed up at the Principal's office to express they were very upset with the decision of them getting a new coach doesn’t say train wreck either.

Unfortunately that’s because they never knew any better. Sorry just calling it as it is.

Sad that those kids you speak of didn’t have the opportunity that was offered to me and my sons. That’s not what Highlands is about and they deserve better and they will get better.

Sorry friend, that ship has sailed, move on.

Then why waste their time.  I guess it would just be for show if their opinions are not valued.

Some of them on the “committee” are DONORS and they valued their opinions when not renewing Coach Weinrich’s contract.

Kinda seems like talking out of both sides of their mouths to me.....

Let’s be clear as this is obviously aimed at me. Nobody said the committee voice and opinion isn’t valued.

And no it’s not a waste of time, these folks on this committee are trying to fix the train wreck that the previous staff left behind. My God my friend, this is Highlands and we will knock the windows out to make sure the committee hires the right coach and staff.

Correct they don’t make the final call on who is hired, but they are VERY influential to the final decision.  That’s how “hiring committees/“interview panels”  work.

There are people on the “hiring committee” using that terminology.

    Noted but wrong.

Why do you feel what Mueller did is out of date?

The lack of a current teaching position is going to be interesting. Will they create a position for the new HC or do they allow anticipated opening to play into who they hire?

I highly doubt whether a teaching position is open or not is relevant to this hire.

It helps but not a deal breaker imo.

I’ll join in on the “I heard” train.  I heard the hiring committee is the principal, asst principal, AD, FTFJL president, boosters president, Freshman Football HC, someone from Foundation; not sure of her role in Foundation,  and maybe a community member that was on the last hiring committee.

Again, let’s be clear on this subject, this group of people are not “the hiring committee” but are simply doing interviews, collecting information  and recommending candidates.

  11. At the end of the day I hope that this process is not rushed. Time to put a coach in place immediately is NOT of the essence in my opinion. This process only happens only so often and now is not the time to make a hasty decision or hire.

This is a very high profile position which will affect the community, the school district, the financial future of sports at Highlands and more importantly the student athletes.

Rebuilding the program with the correct hire will take a minimum 3 to 4 years in my opinion. Could the right coach do it sooner? Sure they can and this imo is why Highlands is such a sought after job because the foundation and the house has already been built, it just needs some remodeling.

    Patience if a virtue.

I heard the selection committee to hire the new head coach has been set. Interviews expected to begin early next week.

The "selection" committee doesn't have the authority to hire or have the final say despite what some may think.  The "head coach search committee" will conduct the interviews and vetting process and will deliver their recommendations to the higher ups.

This shall be interesting to say the least.

Their last two HC came from out of state. One of which ended up at IMG after a stop in IN. Beatty came from Missouri. Both coached on the college level before and Wright is at IU now.

Whooo, that gives Highlands some hope with Wolfe since he won’t be going to Trinity.

An interesting point, but Trinity's next coaching search will be a national one, I'd imagine.

Why? Isn’t there enough qualified coaches in Ky? Seems that just because T is looking for a new coach that everyone isn’t going to just quit their good jobs to come running.

    Please help me understand?

Anyone but me think that Chris Wolfe may be in line to become the next head coach at Trinity? He's proven himself by being able to compete with them. He knows the area as Male is a magnet school right? Also, Male plays what I termed a "fastbreak" offense..... because they have some really fast and talented athletes year in and out. Bob Beatty is nearing retirement age at Trinity, and that is a pretty good gig. Also, Wolfe's staff at Male wouldn't just pull up stakes and head to FT. This will be interesting.

    Wrong thread.
