  1. So much for local support, and encouragement.... As the CovCath student body filed out of school yesterday they offered the NCC football team (practicing on their field) a very supportive cheer.... "Go Mayfield..Go Mayfield"...etc. Nice to know the fine young men at CCH are with the Breds in spirit... :irked:
  2. #75 is one Justin Smith. Justin was named to the N. KY. Coaches All-Star Team first team Defense. He is also a N. KY. All-State team nominee. He is a heckava football player, and a great young man. Justin is a BIG reason why the Breds are enjoying an outstanding season. Unlike Justin Smith (#90) of the Bengals, #75 is actually a consistent disruptive force on the D-Line.... I couldn't resist. Go Breds!!
  3. A KHSAA playoff game has to be played in KY. Nice thought...... As of now, the game will be played Friday night, 7:30 p.m., Newport Stadium.
  4. Because this is subjective it is not possible to have a logical discussion about this..... For example, one argues not to penalize Durbin because of Conner's offensive woes...so you peanlize Canafax because he is a very important part/contributor to a strong offensive unit. Bottom line...he has delivered and performed, consistently I am just curious as to how this process works?? It obviously is not based exclusively on stats...so that leaves athletic ability and other intangibles. If we agree on this, then how are these factors weighted? You mean to tell me that Durbin, and Bovard's skills, athletic ability, etc. are greater than Canafax's??? I have seen Bovard play, not Durbin (except on cable) I think they are pretty even relative to skills, ability, etc. Canafax dropped 1 pass this year...1...out of 59 chances. Before anyone questions NCC competition he was only one of three receivers to have over 100 yards against CovCath. At the end of the day this is not something to get worked up over. Everyone of the young men named to the first and second team are very deserving and are great athletes. Thanks to everyone for letting me vent...
  5. This is obviously a very subjective selection process. What criteria do coaches use in making these nominations?? For example, Canafax is one of 10 players nominated by local Media and Coaches to the KY. All State Team. Durbin and Bovard are not on that list!!! This does not make any sense...
  6. Congratulation's to the Breds and Coach Schneider. LCA has a fine team, but NCC is hot right now. :flame: Too many weapons on offense, and the defense is incredible!! The other NCC wide outs really stepped it up last night. LCA's secondary, and linebackers focused on shutting down Canafax, and for the most part they did (he had less than 40 yards receiving). Bueter, Gesenhues, and Horan had great games. The first NCC TD came on a great call faking the receiver screen to Canafax (a staple NCC play)...the DB's bit big, and Diehl hit a wide-open Bueter down the sideline. Right now the Breds present match-up problems for defense...Vickers outstanding running, Diehl's mobility and passing, and a solid receiving core. NCC is playing their best football right now...when it means the most. Go Breds...2 more wins, and a 2005 Class A State Championship :thumb:
  7. Lance Durbin...first team WR??????? Of course, I am biased, but there is no way he should have been selected over Canafax!!!!
  8. Leatherneck.... "Others" was not a reference to Highlands. As much as the Ft. Thomas NCC parents would like for that to happen, we know why it won't (at least not in the immediate future). Thanks for wishing the Breds luck tonight. Good luck to the Bluebirds!! Given I can't seem to accept your many gracious invitations, hopefully we will see one another in Lousiville very soon.... :ylsuper:
  9. Tough As Nails..... You're right. Given the Breds don't get to play the Tigers they have decided to pack it in, and roll over for the Eagles... Go Breds.. :flame: Win another one for Pango, get Coach Schneider win number 300, and continue your run to a 2005 Class A State Championship!! :dancingpa
  10. ESPNGUY... You'll get no arguement from me on that observation :sssh:
  11. Kudos to Holmes High School, and in particular Covington Superintendent Jack Moreland for letting the Breds use the field for a fraction of the cost they would have been charged by "others". I have it on good authority that Moreland made this generous offer to NCC because of his respect for Coach Schneider, and the fact that NCC helped out Holmes a few years ago when they were in a tight spot (don't recall the circumstances). Holmes and Covington Independent Schools deserve a huge :thumb: 's up!!!
  12. I believe the local media also votes (for this list). That may be the difference. Is there any specific criteria coaches consider in selecting these players? If you are going strictly by performance this season...why is Tyler Madlom on this list, and why isn't JJ Hesch on the list?? Speaking of Hesch....one could also ask why Addington was selected for 2A over Hesch? That, however, is another topic. Just like team rankings, player selections, and rankings are very subjective. For example, go back and review the pre-season write-ups in the local papers (Enquirer, Post, Challenger) regarding the top 5 and 10 players to watch in N. KY. this season. A few of these players aren't even on that list including Sauerback, Adams, Thomas and Canafax.
  13. All Play All Work... Now that is an impressive reply... Well done... :thumb:
  14. Give me a break...of course I meant "Hear", but was multi-tasking while participating on a long conference call. Trust me, I have forgotten more about English, Grammar, and Writing than you will ever know. I struggle to understand why so many BGP posters are combative, and malevolent??? (Look that word up in your Funk and Wagnal)....... Go Breds!!! I'm Finished....(note I did not use "done") :thumb:
  15. The Breds have a new motto this year... "Can You Here The Horse Whisper"?..... The boys are not talking very much. There is a very quiet determination. They know that LCA is a good team, and that Friday night will be a tough contest. Both teams get kudos for their skill players. I believe this game will be won in the trenches. Based on objective observations I have heard from those who have seen both teams play, NCC has the edge on the Offensive and Defensive front. I applaud LCA for the progress their program has made this season. NCC will be more than ready come Friday night.
  16. Hey Troubleshooter... That's a cheap shot and uncalled for. In the event that you lost your mind for brief period of time, NCC is a Catholic School. The "Mary Grotto" project has nothing to do with a football stadium???? As an NCC alum, I for one have grown tired of reading and or hearing negative comments about the fact that the Breds don't have their own football field. There are a number of reasons why this is the case, chief among them, the school's first priority is the building and the grounds....you know...EDUCATION!! NCC has built a strong, successful football tradition with modest to poor facilities. It is after all an urban Catholic school. There are some very positive plans on the horizon. A new football field is in that future, but first things first. By the way, congrats to NCC and good luck next week against LCA!!
  17. Congratulation's to each player!! In particular I want to congratulate Sammy Diehl. I have watched you grow from a freshman to a senior. You are a great team mate, and a true leader on and off the field. You also represent what is special about high school sports. You work hard in the classroom, and on the gridiron. You also toss pizza as well as you do footballs... This is your year Sammy...I know you have but one goal left to accomplish....Don't let anything get in your way. Go Breds, Go Sammy Diehl. :ylsuper:
  18. What is Vickers?? He is a speed back. Again...he had 126 yards rushing in the SAME EXACT CONDITIONS. Adams ran for 42 yards!! Please stop making excuses for Adams. A dry field and fast track bodes well for NCC. They will be able to balance the run and pass very effectively. Tiger supporters are dancing in the streets because they enjoyed one effective passing attack against Raceland. By the way what were the passing stats for that game?? I might be going out on a limb here, but I believe NCC's defense is a little bit better than the Ram defense In very poor field conditions you only saw half of the Thoroughbred attack, and no hurry-up offense. The Breds are peaking at the right time. I expect Bellevue to play a hard fought game, and to score some points, but NCC will win this game by two + touchdowns. I wish both teams well, and look forward to the exciting atmosphere Friday night.
  19. I would like to nominate Newport Central Catholic senior Josh Canafax. Canafax had 4 receptions for 108 yards (including a 77 yard -YAC- for a TD), an 81 yard kick-off return and an interception in a 51-6 win over Paris.
  20. Does anyone knolw if Coach Yeagle will be patrolling the sidelines Friday night?
  21. I believe this will be a close game (provided neither team turns the ball over 1x+). NCC has the advantage in the passing game, the Tigers in the running game. The NCC defends the run well, but its pass defense is average, at best. The Tigers appear to defend the run well, but not the pass. Special teams are about even. Then there is coaching / play calling.... Clearly, Yeagle has the credentials and success for this advantage. That said, many believe that this is a "special year" for the Breds with Coach Schneiders recent accomplishment, and the closeness of this Thoroughbred team. You can throw the CovCath performances out the window. This game will be close, and can go either way. NCC - 28 Beechwood - 21
  22. I failed to mention that Kit also told me the young man must attend Scott High School...not Holmes. I have no insight, relative to that decision.
  23. Kit Andrews told me today that the KHSAA ruled that unless his family pays for his tuition, he is not eligible to play. Holy Cross has held some fund raisers to cover his tuition, but the money must come from outside the HC community. Channel 12 will be running a story on this soon.
