  2. Bluegrasspreps.com is giving you a chance to demonstrate your basketball expertise statewide! The Bluegrasspreps Regional Pick 'em contests give you opportunities to pick games in different parts of the state for prizes EACH WEEK. There will be five regional contests every week. You will have a chance to pick the winners in each region -- NKY, EKY, Bluegrass, Louisville and WKY. This is the EKY contest. Each region will have five games to pick from each week. We pick the games, and you will pick the winner of each game, assigning your picks a point value of 7-5-3-2-1. The first tiebreaker is picking the team (of the ten teams in the contest) that scores the most points. You don't have to pick the highest scoring team, you just have to pick a team that scores more points than the team(s) picked by the member(s) you are tied with. The second tiebreaker is time. Early bird gets the worm if the contest comes down to the second tiebreaker. This is a season long contest and you can enter in any or all regions that you wish. At the end of the regular season, the winner of each region and the next five highest point totals statewide (the Wild cards) will compete during the special Sweet 16 Contest for statewide bragging rights on Bluegrasspreps. If you win more than one position in the postseason playoff, then your second slot will go to the next Wild card. The more contests you enter, the better your chances of qualifying for the Sweet 16 Contest. The best part is, if you win a weekly contest, you will receive a quality prize. Check here for a reference. The overall state winner after the playoffs will get a grand prize custom made for you. The deadline for all entries is 5 p.m. (ET) Friday. Make sure you post your winners and assign each of them one of the following point values (7-5-3-2-1) based on how strongly you feel that that team will win. (Please note that if your selections are NOT in the specified format, your ENTIRE set of picks will be voided) 7 5 3 2 1 1st Tiebreaker: Team scoring the most points. 2nd Tiebreaker: Time of post. 3. paNDA, if I can find my dvd of it, I will get you a copy as soon as I can. Finding it is the question right now as my stuff is in storage at my mom's right now...lol.
  4. Although it was always a rough trip and you had to take all your valuables with you into the gym, I think one of the most interesting I've ever been to is at Oneida Baptist Institute. A word of warning for those who haven't been there, don't eat too much before going cause the roads are VERY unforgiving on the stomach...lol. Another interesting one from the film Ashley Judd narrated was the gym on the stilts at Red Bird Mission School...Coach Wilson has done an unbelievable job in that school for what is afforded him...great man too.

  7. Not sure if he does basketball at Campbell County, but Brady Laber is a REALLY good PA announcer as well as Kevin Schwab. I think Kevin still does football and basketball at Dixie heights as he has the last couple years...Kevin is also the voice of the Florence Freedom...Brady is the voice of the Cincinnati Steam of the Great Lakes Summer Collegiate Baseball League.
  8. MJ, I read somewhere either last year or the year before that only a handful of schools actually make money. From this article I just googled, only 7 percent of football playing schools at the D1 level (both FBS and FCS) made a net profit from 2004-10. This article here led me to another site where you can "get an overview of your institution's athletic revenues and expenses through the U.S. Department of Education's Equity in Athletics Disclosure Act website."
  9. Theoldguy, just wanted to correct you in that it isn't Lawrence County (Ky.), but rather a high school in Massachusetts called Lawrence Central Catholic...sorry if there was any confusion. From what I have been able to gather, the Lawrence Central Catholic HS students have been doing this for some time now...here is a story I found (it was actually where I got the video from) on a website called Prep Rally. The best part of it is that the student section is called "The Red Sea"...lol.
  10. I just saw this video on YouTube and thought that the CCH student section has its work cut out for it to come up with something that tops this idea.
  11. But then my question would be, how many schools in the Division I ranks actually make a net profit from their athletic department?
  12. Clyde, believe me when I say this, I am not upset with your opinion on things because you have the right to say what you feel. If we all got upset with what someone said on a message board, we should all give them up...lol. As far as your comments on the ad agency and revenue generation, I can't comment one way or the other since I have been out of the loop since the beginning of the summer when I left to go work with the Xenia Scouts and then had to leave school...I am hoping to get back in it asap though. I will however say this...Do I believe that NKU will struggle in the beginning with the transition? Most certainly. Do I believe they will make it work in the long run? I'm even more certain on this point. Yes there are only a couple of people working the the athletic department at NKU with prior experience at the Division I level in one way or the other, BUT that doesn't mean that they can't make it work in the long run as they gain that valuable experience once they are there. You can't expect everything to go 100 percent smooth from the get-go. The folks at NKU will make it work not only for athletics, but for the school as a whole...it may not be reflected in wins and losses the first few years, but it will in the long run.
  13. Ok so as everyone knows I have been against NKU going D1 for a couples years now for various reasons...I will not go into them since it is now a mute point BUT with that having been said, I thought I would give it some time before I posted on here about my thoughts now after the announcement. After some time thinking about it, I am now supportive of the decision for a couple of reasons, but the biggest is that I know there are people in place within the athletic department and the rest of the university that will make this happen in a way that NKU will be successful for years to come (not only on the playing surfaces, but as a university as well). Yes Dr. Votruba is retiring but he has meant the world to NKU and without his efforts, many people still wouldn't know about NKU itself...I hope that whoever is hired to replace Dr. V will be as meaningful to the school as he was. Other people there that will be instrumental in making this transition a success are Dr. Scott Eaton, Kurt Moeller, Chris Hafling, Chris Cole, Don Owen and Mike Anderson. For some of those who don't know who all of those people are, I suggest you go to nkuathletics.com to find out, BUT a couple of them I will talk about. Dr. Eaton is probably one of the hardest working individuals I have ever met...heck the man had an appendectomy a couple years ago and was back in the office the next day...not too many people would even fathom that. Some have questioned whether he has the experience in running a Division I program and it has been covered that he was once at Brown University, an Ivy League school. I have no doubt in my mind that Dr. Eaton will be a very successful A.D. at the D1 level as he has been in his short time at the D2 level. Kurt Moeller (Senior Associate Athletic Director - External Operations) and Chris Hafling (Associate Athletic Director - Operations and Event Management) are also very hard workers. Kurt has been at NKU for a while now and Chris has D1 experience while working at Eastern Kentucky University. Both has worked tirelessly over the time that I have known them and will do a great job in this transition. Chris Cole works as the Director of Marketing and Communications for the University under Dr. Votruba. Cole is also very good at what he does and is a known figure throughout campus. If I'm not mistaken, he was one of the individuals interviewed by a couple of the news stations in Cincinnati in the days leading up to the announcement. He has been instrumental in promoting the University as a whole. Don Owen and Mike Anderson (my former bosses) are the Sports Information Director and Assistant Sports Information Director respectively. Don has been at NKU for nearly two decades and is one of the best SIDs in the country at the D2 level...I have no doubt in my mind that he will carry on well into NKU's D1 tenure. Mike was at Alabama-Huntsville (another D2 school but it also has a D1 hockey program) before coming to NKU around 5-6 years ago. Both men have been very instrumental in promoting the NKU student-athletes to the local and national news sources whether it be for feature stories or nominations for various awards. I know I am leaving people out that have had a hand in NKU's past success and who will also help in the future successes...for this I am sorry for leaving anyone out. Another reason why I like the move to the Atlantic Sun Conference is the fact that the A-Sun is allowing NKU to play a conference schedule right away...something the the Ohio Valley Conference would not for at least a year. Southern Illinois Edwardsville, who transitioned from D2 to D1 in recent years, was not allowed to play a full OVC schedule right away and had to schedule D2, D3 and some NAIA schools to fill up its schedule...that could not have been good for the Cougars in promoting a D1 program when it was still playing lower-level schools. Now I am not saying that NKU will be or won't be playing regular-season games against lower-level teams next year, but should the Norse do so, I would imagine that it would only be a couple, if that due to being able to guarantee at least 18 games for basketball and volleyball, nine games/matches for tennis and soccer, 27 games for baseball and 20 games for softball. I may be off a little on those numbers, but you get the gist of what I am getting at. Yes I would have loved to have been able to see NKU against the likes of EKU, Murray State and Morehead State at least twice a year, but sometimes things don't work out. There can still be a good rivalry with those institutions...heck that is at least three other games you can schedule and have easy travel times. I would even suggest a challenge cup type of deal with at least EKU, if not all the rest. With EKU, it could be where every team sports is scheduled to play one and at the end of the school year, the cup could be awarded OR it could be something as simple as the men's and women's basketball teams doing it...just an idea on that. Now that I have said all of that, I wish NKU nothing but the best now in its stay in the D2 ranks as well as when it transitions to D1. The Norse may never win another national title once they move up, but they will have people that will put them in a place to where they will compete with the best of them.

  16. Folks, my apologies for just now posting this and for not getting anything up since the day before the regional finals. Since I haven't done one from that time until now, I am including the regional final results, the state semifinal predictions and results, and the state final predictions. I am also using the exact same Hensley Rating totals from the regional finals week for the final three rounds since I missed both the Cantral Rating and Lit Ratings from last week...I thought it was only fair to do it that way and not predict last weeks games based upon this weeks numbers. You can see that the predictions for the region finals were not good at all, but the state semifinals was a perfect 12-for-12. Disclaimer: Please remember that this is NOT an official BGP poll nor should these predictions be used for any type of gambling. This is just one person having WAY TOO MUCH free time and loving to crunch numbers. Also, please don’t think that this is exactly how I think the games will go. There are some games throughout the six classes that I think will go a different way than the HRS is predicting. To get the margin at which one team is predicted to win by, take the home team’s HRS and add six points for home field advantage and then subtract the visiting team’s HRS. If the number is positive, the home team should win by that much, and if it is negative, the visiting team should win by that much. If this is still confusing, please ask me to explain better in a constructive manner. So with all of this out of the way, here is the HRS for every team still playing in ALL classes and the HRS predictions: 129.55 Trinity (Louisville) 115.85 Highlands 112.45 Bowling Green 110.60 St. Xavier 108.50 John Hardin 104.75 Covington Catholic 103.70 Scott County 103.25 Warren Central 98.60 Lexington Catholic 98.60 Boyle County 95.25 Butler 95.00 Bell County 94.15 Henderson County 94.00 Boone County 93.60 Central 92.50 Harlan County 91.25 Paducah Tilghman 90.95 Eastern 90.50 Beechwood 90.45 Newport Central Catholic 90.35 Mayfield 89.90 Franklin-Simpson 88.50 Conner 88.05 Glasgow 87.95 Jeffersontown 87.85 Holy Cross - Lou. 87.55 Collins 86.95 Anderson County 86.45 Belfry 86.05 Lafayette 85.40 Holy Cross - Cov. 84.90 Breathitt County 83.45 Lone Oak 83.40 Fort Campbell 82.50 Southwestern 82.10 Somerset 82.05 Owensboro Catholic 79.55 Hazard 71.45 Garrard County 70.00 Fairview 70.00 Murray 69.55 Western 69.40 Christian Academy - Lou. 66.10 Lexington Christian 64.95 Pikeville 58.65 Frankfort 57.60 Powell County 51.60 Williamsburg Font color guide: Red means incorrect winner picked Black means correct winner picked Blue means correct winner picked and within a seven points Class 1A - Region Finals Lou. 18. Not sure of the field conditions, but Garrard had already had one extra point kick blocked so that might have played into the decision making.
  19. Belfry strikes first at the 10:41 mark of the 2nd quarter on a run by Johnson. The kick was no good. Pirates 6 Bobcats 0
  20. They are scoreless in Jackson, Ky., after the first quarter.
