  1. Here are my points.

    1. Walt Allen is good. But he is an even classier (if thats a word) person. And a winner.

    2. Dunnaway is a great scorer. Probably the best in the state. My favorite player to watch.

    3. AJ Slaughter is having a great season and possibly the best. His team will win the 8th Region this year and his Sweet 16 performance could give him Mr. Basketball.

  2. Final

After the game fans from both schools gathered at half court and a player from South Laurel lead everyone in a prayer.

I have seen this now 3 times from South Laurel. Usually led by Walt Allen. I first witnessed this last year after the classic PRP vs SL game in the Sweet 16. I also have seen Allen lead the team in prayer after a classic OT game in the AAU state tourny at KBA. When I first saw this I was is shock also. I love it. This is how BBall should be. Respect is what its really about. Respect for the game and the two teams playing. Its more sportsman like than even shaking hands after the game, IMO.

  3. I believe St. Henry trailed by 14 in the first half. Michael Story had a game high 17 points. Borkowski added 15 with the majority of these two players scoring in the first half. St Henry cut it to 2 late in the 3rd but then fell behind by 6 or 7 again in the fourth. St. Henry tied it late had the ball with 20tics left but turned it over. #10 for Boone (ryan?) missed a open 3 at the buzzer to keep it tied for OT.

St. Henry played good D in OT and finished by hitting most of the ft late. The Crusaders were led by Ben Kolkmeier and Brandon Lenhof who each had 14 a peice. Good win Crusaders!! A win over Ryle clinches a 33rd district bye. Keep working hard Cru and good things will happen.

  4. But I don't think your point if they wouldn't have made a big deal about the block it wouldn't have been called. If the ref made the call on a vendetta that is a problem.

I'm not saying there was a vendetta for the call. What I mean is, at that point the coaches had made the refs feel like the close game was starting to get out of hand. Out of THEIR control. It wasn't intentional, possibly a little agressive.

  5. Is your comment about the officials being JV officials because they are not good enough to be varsity officials? I find it ironic that this was about a call in the JV game, in which the coaches are JV coaches because they are not good enough yet to be varsity coaches. Or maybe they just act childish enough that the HS AD won't give them a varsity gig.

Does anybody else see the irony in that.???

There is not a ref in the world that would say he gets every call right.

The coach didn't get the techicals because he disagreed with the call. Every coach disagrees with a call on occasion and the officials tolerate thier disagreement.

The coach got the technical because of the childish temper tantrum he threw. That type of behavior out of a 2nd grader at Holy Cross is not tolerated at school and would result in him being put in "timeout".

Amazing that we are disciplining a grown man for the same offense as a 7 year old.

As an official, I can tell you that throwing a clipboard is going to get you a "T" (and I don't mean... "Timeout") on every occasion, no matter how bad the call.

I guarantee that in the locker room, that coach felt pretty silly for cost them the opportunity and probably needs to apologize to his team.

I agree totaly with you. I was at the game and I just kept thinking "Are you joking?" I believe it was a 3 point game and the JV coaches just wouldn't let it go.

My question is, since when do referees have give a explanation to everything a coach says? I would have T'd him up alot sooner than they did.

Yes the intentional foul might have been a bad call, but it probably doesn't get called if the coach and his assistants let the blocking call go and don't make a scene of things. That just made it worse.

If I was a HC JV player I'd be really ticked off at my coach if we had a legit shot to beat CCH and he cost us the game.

  6. Howard is a Senior. I don't think he's much bigger than 6'5" or 6'6". But he give 100% all the time. IMO, he pushes alot and gets away with it. Thats actually one of his offensive moves. But he never gets called for it. He's a good rebounder and has a solid mid range game. He isn't an exceptional big man and doesn't have amazing post moves. But he is just solid underneath. He gets the job done.

  7. After pondering the loss to Highlands vs CCH last week, I realized something. St. Henry beat CCH last year in a big upset and then rivaled Highlands beat the Colonels this year. Besides those two losses the Cololes haven't lost in regular season play vs. 9th Region teams. They are 35-3 in the past 3 years vs. 9th Region teams with the districts and regionals added. That loss was to Conner last year in the Semis. Thats incredible.

    Year--------Regular Season Record------------Post Season Record

    03-04-------------11-0--------------------------------5-0

    04-05-------------11-1--------------------------------4-1

    05-06--------------4-1--------------------------------TBA

  8. You have absolutely no clue about the Romes family. That would have never of happened.

St. Henry was also another possible transfer school for Romes. From what I heard, guarenteed playing time was wanted at both HHS and St. Henry and neither coaches could GUARENTEE anything. Thats just one of the reasons Beechwood was his choice.

  9. Mark Krebs did shoot the three well, and so did Michael Zimmerman. But those two don't even compart to Ronny Dawn. I played against him numerous times. I've seen every type of defensive player try to gaurd him and it was almost impossible. I have nightmares of Ronny sprinting down the floor with the ball and then just one dime he would pull up from anywhere and knock it down. I really thought he could have played at a higher level than Marshal

  10. No, I'm not saying they couldn't run the floor well. I'm just saying that with those players on the post you could slow down the offense when you are ahead and get the ball into the big man. These big men are the type of players you can get it to down low, and they will do something with it with their backs to the baskets. Wachs' and Votels' all could play with their backs to the basket and that allowed CCH to slow it down. (but they could also speed up the pace when they needed too) This team is different than those in the past 5 years. They can't slow it down and get it inside. They need to be running all game until they are up at least 20pts. And the good thing is, they can because the guards are so athletic and so fast. Am I making any sense?

  11. While I won't disagree with your statement about the starting five and playing minutes, who are Mr. L starting five? TJ, Timmy, Michael, Billy and????? IMHO, I don't see how you can keep Danny out of the starting five even if Coach L does loves guards. Danny can shoot inside or outside, is willing to go after any ball on the floor, won't back down from anyone, is smart and always plays hard on both ends of the floor.

I sorry Old Guy, but I have to disagree. I think the 5 starter has to be a guard with some speed : BOVARD. Sometimes Landrum. Danny is a good player but he should be in with 3 guards. From what I can see Danny has isn't a great shooter or scorer. He's just about average. He should be used as a big man where they need help rebounding.

People at CCH have to remember that the Colonels don't have Brennen or Ryan Wachs or Chad Wachs or Ross Votel in the middle anymore. The big man is not the same it has been in the past. Michael and Billy can run the floor very well. The Colonels have to press and run up and down the floor most of the game. They can't get into a half court set everytime up and down the floor. Thats exactly what defenses are wanting. CCH has great gaurd play. They rarely should go with 3 forwards or 3 big men. They should almost always have 3 gaurds in the game so they can run the floor and press the heck out of teams. When you got great athletic guards like Tim, Kurt, and Todd you have to use them the best you can.
