  1. Dan Penick takes that. I would also take Howard of Scott over him.

Not IMO, I have never been impressed with Penick except for his size and really thats not too impressing either. If I was 6'8" I could out rebound Bellvue, Beechwood, Calvary, and Lloyd. Heck I could do that if I was 6'4".

Howard isn't a bad big man, but isn't in the 9th anymore.

Have you seen Keirnan Bigstick? Until someone stops him I'm going to keep giving him the props he deserves and keep saying he is the best right now. I might be biased from coaching him in AAU, but he dominated down at the state AAU tourny.

  2. 1. Holmes- Will be number one as long as everyone is healthy and happy.

    2. CovCath-Need to get Tim back if they are going to upset the Dogs.

    3. Highlands-Physical play, good defense, are why they win. Offense is improving.

    4. NCC- BigStud will tell you I've been saying this is the team to watch. They have all it takes to be a top 2 or 3 team in this region now that the football squad has arrived. A little more depth is what they could use down the stretch. Kiernan is a beast and IMO is the best center in the region.

  3. First off he is not a center and you haven't played anybody as strong as him.....He out hustles and out muscles people to the ball....I guess we'll see in a couple of weeks. :thumb: :thumb:

Have you seen Elder? I've have seen Highlands and Giudugli. He is huge. But Elder had 2 or 3 guys built like Gino Jr. Not to mention Rudolph is probably bigger. Taller and just a strong.

  4. I like the rougher style of play in the GCL. I think 9th Region refs call games tightly and it ends up hurting our teams when they go downstate to play.

I was fine with the rough style of play. Thats fine with me. Its the phantom calls and "no idea what to do hudles" that made me think are these guys for real.

  5. Wonderful game.

Are you kidding? This was one of the worst high shcool games I've seen this season and maybe in awhile. So UGLY. Only thing pretty was Jacobs 3/4 court one hand heave that went straight in the basket. That gave CCH the lead. I went and got a hot dog and a drink and came back with CCH down by 6 and never gettting close to that again. I have no idea what happened.

Timmy was missed very much so in this game. The pressure that Elder puts on the guards in like nothing CCH is going to see probably the rest of the season. You guys think DEFENSE might be preached a little bit at Elder.

The worst thing TJ could have done was go out and score 37 last week and let Elder see who the offense really runs through. He just could never get into the groove.

Until Tim gets back CCH needs to find a pg who isn't going to turn the ballover, but again alot of those turnovers could have just been caused by Elder's great defensive effort.

  6. Here is my list and it did change after last seasons regional tourny.

    1. Dave Faust- St. Henry-My former coach does it the right way and just missed out on a state title possibly.

    2. Willie Schlarman- Highlands-Someday he'll have the talent and win the 9th Region. For now he is one of the best defensive coaches in the state.

    3. Jim Hicks- Conner-Teaches defense and smart play, his team last year was a great representation of his coaching.

    4. Mike Listerman- CovCath-Has great talent, but coaches defense and hustle with the best of them. He realizes his teams strengths and uses those strengths for the most part to always be on top in the 9th.

    5. Nate Neimi-Ryle- Not one of my favorites but I respect what he has done. One of the best defensive coaches in the state also. His teams always shoot FT well and are very hard nosed. A good example of his coaching was the 2002 Regional Champs.

    5. Dave Hensly- Holmes- His teams are always hard nosed and at full speed all the time. He teaches defense well and team work. Hensly has to put up with alot at Holmes but you would never know that.

  7. I agree with almost everyone on this thread about the support for Faust and the support for head coaches. Like many others will also say, Furman gets no respect from me anyways. Especially after he was the MC for the Coaches Association Banquet Last year. (reasons were discussed in previous threads) But this is the last staw. Here are some points I have about this topic:

    1. Dave Faust is one of the most respected and top coaches in the state.

    2. I coached Zane on the JV team for summer camps and the kid is talented but had lots of room to impove with team skills and studying sets and defense.

    3. Faust contacted me after he made the cuts, not just Zane, and he told me why it was so difficult. Not because of just Zane, becaus he hates cutting anyone.

    4. Cutting Zane had nothing to do with his basketball skills.

    5. I don't know if Faust told the parents all the reasons Zane wasn't impressing him but he did let them know about Zane's work ethic, lack of respect for the some coaches, and attitude.

    6. This has nothing to do with the topic but the religion of the Kadetz's and Furman isn't Catholic and I've know the family has accused the school of cutting him b/c of the difference in religion. Thats totally wrong and out of line. This shows everyone the mentality of the family.

    7. In the past weeks Zane and another student (non basketball related) were suspended from school for cutting out of a in-school event.

    8. Zane is talented but don't go thinking he is going to be on a Varsity roster next season for anyteam in the region. He has a lot of work to do.

    9. Players must work in the offseason-Faust always says "basketball players are made in the summer" I'll leave it at that.

    10. The Otte boys may not be the most talented, but they work extremely hard. Don't miss weights or summer practice or open gyms. Hey Andy Furman they love the game too and show it by doing what they have to just make the team, so your going to take thier uniforms?

    11. Why is Andy Furman covering high school sports in NKY for the NKY Challenger? He doesn't follow HS sports and when he does its only OJ MAYO and NCH? I really challenge the Challenger on why a writer is chosen. Because of his name or because he does his job well.

    11. CrusaderFan, don't let an ignorant man (furman) and ignorant topic draw you away from a great website. We all knew it would be discussed, and its our job (st henry fans and faust supporters) to report the facts.

    12. Its good to know that people (basketball fans on this website especially) trust a coaches decision more than a disgruntled parent.

    13. Would this even be a topic 20-30 years ago?

    14. Before the article was written, a week after the cut, the mother did attend a booster meeting and told the same story. Boosters have no power but they did agree to let her speak. At the end she did say "We know people. I"m friends with Andy Furman. And if it comes down to it I will go to them" Classy mother also.

  8. I hear Elder has a 6'8" soph or junior that is a really nice player.

As for the PIT, I disagree with who ever thinks its not a hard place to play, because it is. Everytime I've been there the crowds were good size and the Elder fans loved when the Kentucky teams came across the river. It gave them a chance to dress up in all the farm gear they could find and heckle the players.

Not to mention the visitors fans aren't aloud to sit anywhere near the court. They have their own section above and away from everyone else. For those who don't know about this, imagine this. If your team was playing at Conner you would sit across from the bench in the upper level with the rails in front of you and you aren't permitted to sit anywhere else because of season ticket holders at the pit. Most impressive are the scoreboard which you don't see at alot of colleges.

I also believe the away team fans pay a different price than the Panthers fans.
