Is it just me or anyone else a little more concerned with this game than the past 2 years against Prestonsburg??? I'm not taking anything away from those games...they were fantastic...but, we are playing a team that mirrors us almost completely. (Do ya think that has something to do with who their coach is and where he came from???? ) We have to play our game but play it twice as well as the other team is playing it. Would now be a good time to have a passing game??? :confused: I am already so excited to see this game play out Friday night that I'm thinking of tailgating in the garage tonight.

But, since I did my part in getting this thread a little off topic, I will try to do my part to get it back on. I see three factors to Belfry winning this game: 1. DEFENSE: The pirates have to hit and hit hard. They have to stop a play at the point of impact ...NOT giving them 5 more yards by hanging onto their ankles. I'm sure that the Coaching staff will drill this all week at practice. Don't get me wrong, I know that their are a few that hit and tackle well, but it should be the entire team doing just that. 2. BALL CONTROL: We can't afford to let Sheldon Clark eat away at the clock. It's funny to say that because that is our game too. We have to give them 3 quick downs and then force them to punt (and to punt to Matt Maynard preferrably ) We all know that Coach Hager is going to have his team key on Matt, but we have to show them that Corey and Dustin are just as dangerous (which I'm sure everyone knows by now) 3. NO MISTAKES: Absolutely, positively, no mistakes...Period!!! We cannot fumble the ball. We can't give them that opportunity to get the ball back by fumbling. We can't get any stupid penalty calls either. The pirates will have to be show discipline and keep level heads. I believe Belfry can and WILL win this game. There will be football after Thanksgiving for the Pirates. Belfry 38 SC 21

So basically, we get the ball the 1st and 4th quarters and SC gets it the 2nd and 3rd. Hopefully we can keep the ball out of their hands. OH yeah Toots..how was the chicken and dumplings??? :sssh:

I think that the crowd not getting into the game is relevant. Ask the boys on the field Toots and see if they think the crowd just sitting there and not doing anything is a factor in the game when the opposing crowd is going crazy.

Once this happened a couple of times...they ran the same play to both sides of the field and got yardage every time. Man, that was frustrating to watch. :mad:

Sorry, but they did spread out the last 2 quarters of the game and even held signs up that said "make some noise"..."Stomp your feet" ..."Stand up and cheer"....do you think they got a response....NO!!!!! So it's not the cheerleaders fault if the fans just look over them and do nothing. It can only be blamed on fans not getting into the game and helping the boys.

The loudest yell of the night from Belfry fans is when they announced that Sheldon Clark beat Leslie County. That was sad! By the way...where are the air horns? :sssh:

I do believe it is posts like this that will get a thread closed.

It seems like Matt should have the most yardage. He has made some tremendous runs this year. 3 backs with that much yardage is scary don't ya think?

I was just wondering if Newport's field is still down by the river and under the overpass? If I'm thinking correctly, Belfry played there in the 1986 3A playoffs and it was snowing and cold!!!!

I think that our Defense will be having some major practice this week Toots. They showed some definite weakness in last nights game against the Jackets. What worries me the most is that for 4 years, SC's Coach Hager was a player at Belfry. He knows what is done at practice to prepare for a game. He has been in the locker room at halftime and knows what Coach Haywood will do to correct mistakes. Heck, I bet he still has his playbooks. This is the game that will have me on pins and needles until the last play. I believe the Pirates will take the victory, but not by a lot. OH YEAH....Is it just me or does the buzzer on the new scoreboard sound like a sick cow????

I almost forgot to mention that I think that Dustin May had one of his best games of the season tonight. Way to go Dustin.

Don't get me wrong, I know that some fans don't like to be bothered with getting up and yelling for the boys..they feel that it is unnecessary or that the boys shouldn't need the crowd to get them pumped up. All I know is that I had a brother who played and he says that he can still hear the roar of the crowd and how it made his adrenaline flow and pumped him up. If a crowd the size of Belfry would yell a little bit harder at times, then I would almost bet that we would see some extremely positive reaction from the boys. But, that's just me!

I can't even begin to think about this game yet. I'm still trying to go over some of the things I watched tonight. :irked: :creepy: :scared: :madman: :thumb: :eek: That's just some of the emotions I felt as I watched the Belfry/Middlesboro game. I'll have to sleep on this one until tomorrow. Go Pirates!!!!

As a Belfry Pirate fan, I must say that I am pulling for Henry Clay to go all the way. Congratulations on the win and best of luck for the remaining games.

I agree!!! Let me start by saying that I was surprised that Middlesboro didn't bring a bigger following with them, but the ones that were there were great fans. There couldn't have been 100-150 fans there and were louder and more supportive of their team than the 2,000+ Belfry fans...(but I won't even get into that :irked:) I hope that everyone made it home safely. Middlesboro gave the Pirates all they wanted and honestly I don't think that we responded that well at times or quickly enough. This game had me scared in the first 2 quarters. I don't know if Middlesboro saved their best game for last, or Belfry saved one of their not so great games for tonight. To beat Sheldon Clark next week we are going to have to play like I have seen Belfry play before....mistake free and aggressive. Let's go Pirates!!!!!!
