  1. If professional athletes can't stay in shape on their own then they are not professionals.

I agree on the new coaching staffs and rooks, but that is the way the cookie crumbles.

I never mentioned them being in shape. I agree they should be in great condition coming in.

However, teams need time to practice. The beginning of the season already looks sloppy because they have limited how much time teams can practice. Shorten the off season and it will be worse.

I guess it's the pessimistic in me that doesn't see all this being better by the time the NFL is scheduled to start up.

  2. I think the NFL will start on time.

With that said, the precedent moving forward is unknown, so there is no telling if we will have any sports, any bars, any restaurants, or any anything that attracts a crowd.

Training camp, mini camps will all be delayed, imo. How can they start the season on time if those things are pushed back?

Teams with new coaching staffs would be at a significant disadvantage. Rookies too.

  3. As of 9:01pm last night Italy had:

    6,557 new cases since Friday

    793 new deaths

    53,578 total cases

    4800+ total deaths

This is day 11 of their lockdown.

Italy is getting hit harder than most.

Apparently they have lost a lot of people with pre existing conditions. I read somewhere that 99% of the people that have died from corona virus there have had pre existing conditions of some kind.

Still scary, but there must be a reason it is so much worse there than it is anywhere else.

  4. Talking about a memorable play or a memorable games isn't the same as discussing who is the best.

No way in hell will people remember Eli Manning as one of the best over Drew Brees, unless maybe that person is a biased Giants fan. Will they remember Eli's Super Bowl win and the helmet catch over Brees' win? Sure. But that's a different discussion.

    Super bowl win(S).

And I never said someone would say Eli was better than Brees. Not sure where you got that.

I'm excited for when he does get in. Because he will get in.

  5. Sure, he was "one of the best of his era", but obviously from the vantage of most, he would be on the low end of the "one of the best of their era" meter. Where that line in the sand is between that and a HOF enshrinement, we shall see.

For me, my general rule is if you have to make a case for a player, they do not belong in the HOF. If we are having to argue in/out, they shouldn't be in the HOF. Can people with no hesitation attach the qualifier "all time great player" in front of Eli's name?

Every other player with 2 super bowl MVPs is in the HOF other than Brady, obviously. He deserves it and will get in.

  6. Correct. If you are outside of the top 5, then you should not be considered one of the best. And that's assuming he's right outside of the top 5, which I'm not sure that's where he would be placed.

30-40 years from now when a bunch of people our age are sitting around drinking coffee with their buddies and someone brings up the best QBs during the early 2000's (or really during any timeframe) Eli Manning will not be one that gets named outside of people like yourself, die hard Giants fans. That's reality. You disagree and that's fine but I have no doubt this will be true. So to me, definitely not considered one of the best.

I disagree. Eli's performances in his two super bowls are more memorable than Drew Brees throwing a ton of TDs. People will remember the helmet catch and the heroics of the 4th quarter drives to take down a dynasty in the big game 2x, forever.

  7. I disagree. No one, besides maybe you, would say that he was a top 5 QB in his era. To me, that means he was not one of the best in his era.

You and I will never agree on that, which is fine.

How many QBs played in the NFL while Eli played? Hundreds? If hes 6th best you dont consider him one of the best?

There's a debate to be had about a lot of things. But there are very few people in the world who have done the things Eli has done. Some only a handful have accomplished. To me, that makes you one of the best.

  8. Consistent top 10 isn’t elite. Think Matthew Stafford, Donavan Mcnabb, Joe Flacco etc. A few years were you are top 2 or 3 just doesn’t seem to give you a claim to greatness.

And Eli has more super bowl MVPs than those 3 have super bowl wins.

  9. He is not elite, nor was he one of the best to do it in his era.

His dad and brother have more to do with getting in than his career statistics do. That's why people say he shouldn't get in but will.

Btw, He was absolutely one of the best to do it in his era.

How many others won as many super bowls and MVPs as him? Not to mention his numbers were consistently top 10, top 5 and sometimes top 2 or 3.

You might have an argument if Eli had top 3 defenses every year and rode that to his super bowls like Trent Dilfer or Brad Johnson. That didnt happen.

  10. This is exactly why I'm in the camp that I'm in. In 16 years, Manning was never mentioned as one of the top 2-3 QB's in the league. There were always 3 or 4 guys (at least that were better), and the stats back that up. It gets difficult to compare stats when going across era's because the game has changed so much in the last 20 years. Winning a SB MVP is a nice accomplishment. Winning two is really nice. But that doesn't make or define a career. Nick Foles, Malcolm Smith, Joe Flacco, Santonio Holmes, Dexter Jackson, and Deion Branch (to name a few) all won Super Bowl MVP's. Would any of them be considered for the HOF if they had won a second? And to be fair, Eli has had a much better career than all those guys. But it shows that the award isn't necessarily the defining factor of whether you're a great player or not.

You destroyed your own argument by pointing out that Eli has had a much better career than all of those guys.

If Philip Rivers won 1 superbowl and was an MVP wouldn't you think he would be a good candidate for the HOF? Heck, some think he is a candidate already. Imagine if he had 2 super bowl rings and MVPS.

Many consider Roethlisberger a lock. He had much better defenses and didnt play nearly as good as Eli (especially in his first super bowl win).

Stats matter, and Eli has very good overall numbers. Super bowl wins, and MVPs matter. Having huge moments in NFL history matter.

Maybe one of those things alone doesnt get you in, but when you have em all, you're definitely in.

  11. To me, a lot of it comes down to, how many players at your position were better than you during your era?

If we can name more than five, which I believe we can, then you shouldn't get in. Period.

Everyone has their opinions. There are a lot of players in the HOF that dont fit your criteria.

  12. He is not elite, nor was he one of the best to do it in his era.

His dad and brother have more to do with getting in than his career statistics do. That's why people say he shouldn't get in but will.

What does his dad have to do with anything?

Eli played better than Peyton in both of his super bowls.

Average QBs dont win two super bowls and MVPs with average defenses. Eli is the only QB in history of the NFL to win two superbowls with defenses ranked lower than 15th.
