  1. Have you ever lost your hunting land on short notice right before the season? I just found out yesterday we have lost the permission to the hunting land we have been hunting the past several years. It sucks, especially this close to the season (we aren't bow hunters). That farm belongs to a relative of a relative, and he decided to use it for another purpose, which is understandable. But it sucks.

    I kind of saw it coming, because there were hints of it last year. It was an informal agreement, and since nobody had said anything before now, we assumed there were no changes. Until yesterday.

    I'm long in the tooth in my hunting career, and can live with it, but my son, who is just turning 16 grew up hunting there and he is really bummed out. Not sure what we will do this season now, probably just wing it here in Pike Co.

    Oh well, if you have a similar story and would like to rant, I'm all ears. Misery loves company. :cry:

  2. Threw together some bacon wrapped jalapeno poppers with the burgers tonight. Delicious

    Yummy!

    How do you make the crockpot cream corn?

    I haven't tried it yet, so tomorrow will be a test run. From the looks of it you put in a bunch of butter and cream cheese with whole kernel corn and season it. :D

    Here is the recipe I am going to try...

    [h=2]SLOW COOKER CREAMED CORN[/h]

    yield: 6 SERVINGS

    prep time: 10 MINUTES

    cook time: 3 HOURS, 15 MINUTES

    total time: 3 HOURS, 25 MINUTES

    So rich and creamy, and unbelievably easy to make with just 5 ingredients. It does not get easier than that!

    [h=3]INGREDIENTS:[/h]

    • 3 (15.25-ounces) cans whole kernel corn, drained
    • 1 cup milk
    • 1 tablespoon sugar
    • 1/4 teaspoon pepper
    • 8 ounces cream cheese, cubed
    • 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, cut into thin slices

    [h=3]DIRECTIONS:[/h]

    1. Place corn into a slow cooker. Stir in milk, sugar and pepper until well combined. Without stirring, top with butter and cream cheese. Cover and cook on high heat for 2-3 hours.
    2. Uncover and stir until butter and cream cheese are well combined. Cover and cook on high heat for an additional 15 minutes.
    3. Serve immediately.

  3. I disliked a lot of the ones already mentioned, especially candy corn and those black/orange wrapped things. I also was never a coconut fan, so any candy bar with coconut went into my trade pile.

    I hated getting jelly beans, taffy and worst of all peppermint patties. I disliked those hard candies wrapped like a strawberry, too.

    I loved just about any kind of candy bar, especially $100,000 bar (before they renamed it), Mr Goodbar, Snickers, Hershey and Zero. Other favorites were bubble gum cigars / cigarettes, bottle caps, candy necklaces, pop rocks / nerds and sweet tarts / spree

    And one of my all time favorites, who remembers this? Capture.JPG

  4. I love what Fulton County is doing, and that they have found some out of district opponents that they can get some W's against, and it is a testament to their improvement that they are in this conversation. This is the kind of story that makes high school football so much fun to watch, and I always pull for the underdogs.

    That said, they won't be able to beat Russellville. I hope I am wrong and if I am, I will eat my crow.

  5. Unique idea. At first blush I think I like it for freshman and JV games where participation and reps are (or should be) the main objective. There is no playoffs at stake, and we are too wrapped up in winning and records as it is.

    I don't think it has a place in varsity, or any level where wins and losses have an impact on post season play.

    What has the reaction been to this method? I can imagine that implementation could be HUGELY unpopular among the fans, and probably the players too. ;)

  6. That certainly is a bold statement. The state championship team with Battaile at quarterback and Pugh at running back along with others was a heck of an offense
    This one is a little better up front, IMO. They don't have a Pugh on this team, but they have two Roberts' in the backfield and several nice receivers.
  7. Pikeville won some battles but Belfry won the war.

    The Panthers outgained the Pirates 470 yards to 355.

    I read today that Pikeville's total yards was 407 instead of 470. I'm not sure if I misheard it on the radio, or if they misspoke. Either way, that is a lot of yards and they outgained the Pirates on the night.
