I was at that game and it was a wild finish. I always thought that the QB for Beechwood was watching the clock and threw the ball up when he saw 0:00, and the whistle came just after that. I have always thought Murray got cheated by a bad call. The officials were just covering their butts because they said they ruled him out of bounds when he was standing right on the L in the endzone and nowhere near the out of bounds line.
BUT NOW, after reading the above explanations, I must reconsider. I have never had the opportunity to review the film with the benefit of sound. If the official blew the whistle as the clock expired BEFORE the QB threw the ball up, then it is a safety, plain and simple. The explanation by the officials stating he was OB would dispel any claim that the whistle was inadvertent.
I would like to see the film, but if it is as reported above, then I agree that Murray's claim is not valid. It's still a terrible ending for both teams because of the contriversy.

I have to agree with the other poters who voted for Hopkinsville's stadium. It was fantastic. I watched Leslie Co/Tim Couch play there his senior year. That was 1 fantastic high school stadium.

Putnam, hands down, it the best from a fan's or a player's standpoint. As a player to come up out of that tunnel onto the field is quite an experience. As a fan, you walk in and the field level is below. And the crowd just engulfs the field. I've always felt it was quite a special place for HS football.

Guru, I take it you have never been there. If so, then you owe it to yourself to go there and watch a game. Preferably one where the Tomcats are playing a rival like Boyd or Ironton, etc. It is truly the greatest place to watch a football game. When you walk through that entrance the field level is below you and you are on the top row of the bleachers. It's magical. If you decide to go there, I have one suggestion.....Get Good Directions. It's hard to find and once we drove around town trying to find it when we could even see the lights and hear the band.
