  1. Heck, I can't even enjoy P-burg winning that game because I can't keep what happened the next week out of my head when I think about it !! And I'm sure YOU know what I'm talking about......
  2. With all due respect, the purpose behind the call is understood. I even agree with the rationale. It IS unfair for an offense to get a cheap 1st down after being defended well. The problem is...officials, in the years I've watched football, have ALWAYS called the penalty on the DEFENSE when they're drawn off.
  3. Yes, he is. He's an outstanding coach of football fundamentals and did a great job in P-burg. :thumb:
  4. No... the corollary is the rule that disallows the defense from yelling "hut" during the snap count (to draw a "false start"). And it most certainly IS in place. I agree with you though. High school football should eliminate "drawing the defense offsides" as being part of the game. IMO, football would be better without it. Few things are as frustrating as seeing your team's defense stop the opposition just to see the offense steal it back on 4th and Belfry is notorious for what I call "the coordinated stance change" of the offensive line. They get low in a 2 pt. stance, then all stand together and go down to a 3 pt. stance during a long snap count. As it is, drawing the defense is perfectly legal, but it takes away from a primary object of the game - playing solid defense.
  5. No one is mentioning the obvious. Lone Oak was outmanned, for sure, but there's NO WAY the final score is indicative of the difference between the two. IMO, Lone Oak probably wasn't prepared for their FIRST appearance int he State Final. When a team that's already outmatched comes in and isn't on its game (due to the BIGGEST stage), it's going to look much worse than it might otherwise. Sometimes a lesser team can pull an upset. This is nothing more than the flipside of that: the lesser team came in and laid an egg. Though I'm sure its coaches/players/fans don't see it yet, this has been a great year for Lone Oak football. :thumb: And...a special CONGRATULATIONS to Coach Letton from Prestonsburg on getting a Title. :ylsuper:
  6. Pure CLASS... NewCath will miss him if he decides to hang it up. :thumb:
  7. There's a lot of 2A teams that'll be hopin' #28's dad gets a transfer...
  8. Did he have trouble picking it up, or did the ball squirt backwards on a hit during the KO ?
  9. And a good portion of them were > 5 yds. Lots of yards at the right time, for sure. GREAT playcalling and execution, obviously.
  10. Is there any doubt as to why folks out in the country feel selected residents of the 3 county northern tip sometimes come off as acting a little bit "elitist" ?? This is the FC's "day-in-the-sun thread", not NKY's. :sssh:
  11. OTOH...it's better than what the T folks will be remembering from the end of the 1st half should X win.
  12. Goodness...what's with all the bad kick snafus during the Finals this year ?
  13. Not platooning at WR could help, but it's more than that. It's an offensive philosophy and a numbers game. offensive philosophy - the less a team does something, the less proficient it will be in doing it. numbers game - there are only so many superior athletes on a given team. Will one of these be positioned at wide-out ? (answer: depends on the importance of the passing game to the offense)
  14. Remarkable that X is playing a T-styled offensive game...!!
  15. I'm really pleased to see a team from the much maligned "old" 2A win the "new" 2A. While I've liked the additions of Danville, Bardstown, and NewCath in the class, it's nice to see confirmation that there was never anything wrong with 2A as it was before, even at the highest level. Fort Campbell was simply the better team. Way to go, Falcons !!! :ylsuper: (and hope this put a smile on a few military personel serving away, too)
  16. You've made an excellent post, EKU, but the part I've quoted is something I don't think can be fixed with "developmental camps". It's far easier to say "throwing 5 times a game is OK if we catch them all" than it is to actually do it. While I'm sure you didn't mean that literally ("every" pass caught), I think what you're criticizing can't be fixed with anything short of a change in offensive philosophy. If an offense wants to keep an opposing defense from stacking the box, I believe throwing the ball a minimum of 10-15 times a game, every game, is mandatory. This number of reps will allow the QB/receivers to develop their skills and timing. Even if the completion rate runs Don't misunderstand my point. A 90/10 running offense can/has been very effective at the high school level (Belfry proved that in '03 and '04). All I'm saying is...if a team runs a 90/10 offense, the 10 part of that can't function with anything approaching consistency (due to lack of use). Belfry can't stay 90/10 and have a passing game that will force defenses to respect it adequately to play it straight up. :bunny:
  17. Tight game. Seems to me both offenses are moving the ball but can't close the deal. So far, NCC catching the bulk of the breaks.
  18. Telling stat: Belfry forced to punt 7 times.
  19. Central played a fine game. Both teams with critical errors. Belfry ran into a team they couldn't run over. Central shot the tackle gap and caught Elkins running parallel behind the line a number of times. The INT for a Central TD just before the 1st half was the play of the game. A Belfry fumble in the red zone driving for the lead in the 4th was a close 2nd.
