  1. Finally! Been waiting for this game since our Bullitt East game. Both teams are going to score, and like mentioned before it’ll come down to special teams and turnovers. Owensboro won the last matchup due to these two things. A fumble returned for a td and a kickoff taken back. Graves defense is not as good as it was last year, but the offense is on another level.

I think it comes down to QB play for Owensboro. This is his first real heavyweight game. While Graves defense isn’t as good as last year I imagine it’ll be far better than any defense this kid has seen in his short career.

We are going to have us a high scoring affair. 45-42. Graves hits a walk off field goal for the win.

Going to be a long slow week.

Graves is an outlier - Is there another 5A school close?  Owensboro to Graves is about 2 hours, probably a little more for BG to Graves.  Christian county would be closer, but Breck (Harned KY) is almost 3 hours from Graves.  That would be like Owensboro in Freddie D's district.  Very Western KY doesn't have a lot of 5A.

Personally I would love the super district with BG, O and SW (you would each be battle tested by playoffs), but by round 2, 1 would be out each year.  I like cross-district play the first 2 rounds then RPI - not sure what is happening next year.

I feel like they should keep O and Graves together, SW and BG together, and keep them separated. Then you would have two good programs in each District. You also don’t have O and GC blowing every district team out of the water if they were alone. Gives more meaning to a District Championship.

Closest 5A team is Muhlenberg. About an hour and a half away. I do know our school is losing numbers. I’m curious to see if we don’t fall to 4A at some point. Don’t think that’ll happen for a little while though.

In the last 7 years, Graves hasn't made it past round 2 of the playoffs.

We struggled a bit after 2014, but last year and this year we have had very solid teams. Just been in Owensboro shadow the last couple of years. Had a chance to beat them last year in the playoffs, but couldn’t score in the redzone on our final drive.

It was mainly just a talent drought those 5 years. We have some very good underclassmen and the middle school program appears to be very healthy and talented as well. Hopefully, we are here to stick around this time around.

Early in the season Caldwell County had as many as 5 starters out.  They are now back and it shows, they have been a much better football team the past few weeks with those players back.  I think Mayfield wins but the Tigers appear to me to be a solid team now.  Cards by 21-28.

I did not know this. 5 starters for a 2A school is massive! When did these guys get back?

  5. Owensboro with a green QB who hasn't played a legit threat. The teams he has played have won I believe just two games between the 4. This is not his fault, but experience is always better than inexperience. Owensboro is battling a ton of injuries to key players it seems. Lastly, they must travel to Graves County.

The stars seem to be aligning for the Eagles.

  6. Mayfield 100% got hosed that last drive that is accurate, but they also were one yard away from being able to kneel out the game and had a lineman false start. That was the craziest sequence of events I have ever witnessed at a state title game.

The rumor has been for the last 5 years is that Morris is about to retire. I have heard it again this year. We all can dream, right? haha

The PT transfer excuse is way over used. A lot of the kids involved were Paducah kids in the first place. They transferred to LO Middle for 1 season then transferred back.

Even if a lot were PT kids. You take just 3 athletes out of each class that can kill a program.

  8. About 40 or so kids (athletes) left McCracken to go to Paducah over the last three to four years. McCracken didn’t hire someone, someone else with money got mad, took kid and almost the whole neighborhood to PT. Those of us in the area aren’t surprise by this at all. It was only a matter of time until the talent pool dried up. Not Coach Clark’s fault IMO.

I'm not sure how it would punish them any more or less than it does already by calculating it each week as your team plays each opponent?

I guess what I mean is, you shouldn't get too excited where you are at if you are from a weak district. Unless they are already somehow calculated in. I doubt they are, but being hopeful.

For example, Graves RPI is second in 5A. Our District opponents are super low, besides Owensboro. I'm guessing we can only go down even if we win out.

  10. Maybe a dumb question, but is your future opponents current RPI calculated in your current RPI? Obviously they will change as those teams win and lose games, but will it not impact your RPI at all until after you play? This would reward stronger districts and punish a good teams in weak ones.

Mayfield will be a team you don't want to meet in the playoffs. As far as winning it all, that's tough. Next year, I definitely see them as the team to beat because of what they are returning. I might be wrong but I just can't see it at the moment.

I figured this year was their best shot. Are they not losing basically every skill position this year?

With Cooper I think the head to head with Ryle tells me what I need to know.  I can't speak on Graves but generally speaking I believe Highlands is too high.  This past week I thought they looked bad, worse than at any other point this season.  I wonder if they are wearing down.

I'm a little late, but if anyone will make a case for Graves it's probably only going to be me.

Currently one of the most explosive offenses. I think we might be number 1 in yards in 5A.

Just comparing scores, which isn't the best indicator, but its all we got.

    Graves 49                   McCracken 16
    Bowling Green 14       McCracken 10
    Bowling Green 18       Highlands 21

Not saying it is the best case, but there's the case and it is not a terrible one.

I think your getting a little carried away. Cam was the entire offense in the first half. I think there were 2 rushes not by him. Beechwood played really well, but without Cam it’s a different game. QB is the most important position by a mile in HS, and CCH and beechwood were miles apart in that category.

You really don’t like that kid playing huh?
