  1. Cole Katzman ran his heart out. Looked really good. I think if Graves would have had Dennis available and had the one-two punch with him and katzman it would’ve made their offense better and possibly could have closed out some of those longer drives. I thought it should’ve been 14-14 at half but it was 21-0.

I think if we can eliminate some mistakes we can definitely give Owensboro a game next month. A junior dominated team. I feel good about the rest of the season and beyond.

Not sure. I really think they wanted him to sit this one out. Maybe wait to the Paducah game even. But he’s one of the best running backs in the state and a senior.  It’s his last hurrah. I say he plays.

Come on guys. Juh Juh played on a broken foot last year. This isn’t going to work. Ha!

In all seriousness if he misses I hope he has a speedy recovery. He plays the game the right way.

  3. Graves handled Henderson pretty well last night in the scrimmage. Anyone know how good they are suppose to be? Graves hung with Mayfield for a half but had no real offense last year. I’m expecting a little closer game than many might expect.

Also important note: Graves lead back Dennis Marrs still looks to be out. Not sure he plays first couple of games. He’s a difference maker when healthy.

  4. If not playing a game is better than playing a game for RPI, then that’s something that needs to be addressed immediately. As a coach you are stuck between a rock and hard place. Do I schedule a game that could cost us a home playoff game against the likes of LCA? A coach should never be put in that decision and the kids deserve to play 10 games.

Stars are aligning for Graves it seems. They should have a chance at the district this year… Would be more aligned if Graves had a Senior lead team but if both are in experienced and it comes down to talent and speed it’s still going to be tough sledding for graves.

@gcbleedblue does Graves have any big names returning on offense? I believe the Devils will struggle on defense early on but there offense should be able to still put up big numbers with who they have returning.

I could be wrong but IMO Owensboro is still the most talented team on Graves schedule

I agree with everything you said. Paducah and Mayfield are probably just as talented though. What’s nice is we will get to see them before Owensboro and get some good battle tested games.

Returning key players on offense is QB Kaiden Gregory and then they got Dennis Marrs back at rb who only played the first 4 games last year. Both juniors. They return their entire O-Line which can be a factor those first few games. Not many seniors but those who play should be solid. I guess we will know alot more in a few weeks.

Ordell you probably right. The Homer in me believes the Devils have the underclass men talented enough to be in the mix from the start, but they’ll more than likely take some lumps early on. The Boyle scrimmage will be really telling on how our year will start.

Don't think DC or Graves have enough to keep up still. Owensboro offense should be a problem with Hampton, Crowe, Winstead and Kimbrell all being big threats to score.

Graves will be junior dominated. Feel like they will have a good team, not great, but just solid all around. This thread gets me a little excited that we might finally have a shot to knock Owensboro off with it being at Graves.

Graves schedule before Owensboro is Mayfield, Paducah, Caldwell, McEwan TN.

I think at worst Graves rolls into the Owensboro game 2-2 with a 2 game winning streak. That’s worst case scenario in my mind.

  7. Did they ever fill that open week? A nine game schedule has huge implications on RPI. Could be good or bad. If I’m mayfield I’m not scheduling a cupcake team that’ll just lower their RPI unless it’s last resort, because those kids do deserve a 10 game season.

Am I correct in remembering that Coach Kemp came in as an interim head coach at Graves initially, also? Maybe 3 or 4 years ago?

    @gcbleedblue any idea on that?

Yes that is accurate. This would have been his fourth season, and I really thought was doing a great job.  I’m out of town on a business trip so I’m kind of out of the loop, but did hear this news early this morning.

Gregory being the interim is HUGE for the program. Hard to find a coach of that caliber this point into the season. His son will also serve as QB. Very tough schedule this year. 3 of first 4 opponents are Mayfield, Paducah and Owensboro. Definitely had to have a replacement like this.

I think you will see District 1 and District 2 change dramatically if South Warren and Apollo move down.

If that happens I would assume Barren moves up based on this thread. Meaning you'd have 12 teams here out west.

Graves, marshall, muhlenberg, madisonville, owensboro, apollo, grayson, ohio, and 4 bowling green schools

They should do 3 districts with 4 teams if that were the case, but it wont happen. Theyll continue to make us drive 2.5 hours to one another. They’ll do 6 teams in D1 and 6 in D2. Always have.

Maybe this is just me denying myself what would make the most sense. That way I don't get excited that I will get to go to games again. I can't do 4-5 hours on the road Friday nights anymore.

I'd like to see due to all the travel that districts are done away with and teams just schedule who they want. For playoffs make 4 regions and seed by RPI. 4 region winners and can be reseeded basically how they do now in 4th round.

This actually has a lot of potential!

First 3 rounds do districts 1-4 playing based on rpi and 5-8 based on rpi. Fourth round would be like it is now.

    Great concept.

Marshall County continues to play up? A new 5A District 1 with Graves Co., Madisonville, and Muhlenberg Co. (+~ Owensboro) reset seems like a better fit for them. Marshals haven't won a playoff game since '07.

There is zero chance they will only give far West Ky a 4 team district. I'm not sure what the reason is, but 5A District 1 is a lock for 6 teams. 6 teams that are 2-3 hours away from each other. Most spaced out and most teams has never made sense to me, but it seems it always happens. I'm sure there is a reason, I just haven’t figured it out yet.

I wish KHSAA will put those 4 teams in a district that you mentioned. Madisonville is still an hour and a half away, but that beats the 2 hours and 30 minutes we have driven for district games in Bowling Green before. My poor son wouldn't get home until after 1 am traveling home from some District games.

I think Coach Kendrick should start looking for a bigger job. Bullitt East is a solid job but it’s gonna be a rough year next season and should get out while he’s hot.

If it benefits his family and helps him financially, sure go take the job. But I think that’s a terrible attitude. Just 3 months ago similar comments were probably made about this years Bullitt East team.

There has been doubt and unbelief from many many people around the State. No one ever thought that BE could get to such a level in the short amount of years that we have done so. Many sportswriters never gave us a chance in their rankings. But as you know, Actions speak louder than words. Our program never wavered in our Belief of what we would accomplish. And our kids proved week after week with their stellar play that they were worthy of high praise. The improvement from the game one loss, was outstanding.

Coach Kendrick is a man of high character, moral standards and can flat out coach. Yes Coach of the Year should be a No Brainer. Travis Egan has proven all season that he is worthy of all the accolades that he has received. His stats are Fantastic. His leadership on this team was Top Notch. He dominated the Championship game. He threw the ball like crazy but don't forget that he caught the winning 2 point play. And then went out on the defensive side and made the game ending sack with a big time hit on the Male QB. I question anyone who does not believe or will not vote for him for Mr. Football. Bullitt East deserves the respect of everyone out there. WE BELIEVED and are now the 6A STATE CHAMPIONS. And nobody can deny or take that away.

I love how excited you are. We too were always told Graves County could NEVER win a state championship. That you might as well send your kids to Mayfield if they want to play for one. 2014 kind of debunked that myth. While we didn’t win it, it’s now a goal of the program every year. I hope our next trip our community gets to experience what you are experiencing.

Not looking to start a separate debate but genuinely curious about this: I noticed both QB and RB for Mayfield took extra Covid year. I know people made a big deal out of “Super Seniors” a few years ago but how many players on both of these teams took the extra year?

Its Mayfield. All those eligible took the year basically.

I have a rule. don't pick against Mayfield. I'm sticking with that rule. Mayfield finds ways to win. Score 100% should have been 21-14 at half last Friday. LCA made a mistake and when you do that Mayfield makes you pay. Game changer.

    Mayfield 35

    Beechwood 28
