I’m not saying one way or the other and before I say this I realize a game is 48 minutes long and every minute counts but with 6 minutes left Mayfield was up 38-17 and had the ball in Henderson territory driving to possibly make it 45-17. The QB drops back to throw, rares back and the ball completely slips out of his hands and he throws it about ten yards backwards. Henderson recovers and goes down and scores. Mayfield then just runs the clock out to end the game. Like I said, take that for what it’s worth. It’s all part of the game. Penalties were also atrocious towards Mayfield but that’s also part of the game. With all that being said, Mayfield probably has the best non-QB skill player in 2A outside of maybe Brady Hensley in Xavier Biggers. The Mayfield coaching staff refuses to use him. He has 7 catches on the year with 4 going for TDs. He’s an absolute stud on both sides of the ball. If they don’t use him on offense then have no chance to win a state championship.

Why do you think this is the case? Mayfields offense has been the same for the last decade. Going to spread you out, throw it around to athletes, and have a single back in the backfield. Everyone knows what they’re going to do and it’s not complicated at all, but good luck stopping it. With this offense though, I could see it limit certain playmakers getting touches. Just a thought.

  2. Sorry guys, I was driving, wife just took over.

It was a wild game. Graves first 4, maybe 5, plays were big gains and called back, including an 80 yard td pass.

After that the refs settled in and did a great job. The clock operator was terrible. He refused to start the clock trying to get Madisonville more time.

Graves jump out in front and had a comfortable 20-7 lead. Madisonville scored in the very last play to cut it to 20-14.

Ball was spotted 34 yard line really 33.8 yard line.  The ball is a full yard past when he releases it.  Several 4th down flags on O.

Doesn’t matter where the ball is, matters where that last part of his body is. The back foot. This angle it is impossible to tell.

Don’t forget, we were hurt last night too.  Marrs appears to be still very limited.

We would both have to get past District 2 for it to happen. Assuming we both beat a good madisonville team. I’m not sleeping on them.

I have seen a theme with you guys and refs after every game on here.

  4. Too many people all on the same tower. I know most people around our area use Verizon and At&t. Fewer people use T-Mobile and they offer 5G coverage, unlike Verizon. If you knew someone who had T-Mobile use their phone or pay for them to have a wireless stream kit that offers wifi for your phone. (The first option would be better) I cannot guarantee this would work, but it’s worth a shot.

Statistically, Cartwright is better than James and it isn't close. James only completed 55% of his passes last year and threw 10 interceptions.

I agree Cartwright is better. Kid went from struggling quite a bit when he was young to one of the best qbs Mayfield has had in awhile. And yes before I get slammed about previous qbs, I know who all has played qb at Mayfield the last few years. He doesn’t make many mistakes and distributes the ball better than any of them. Doesn’t have the arm to go vertical but man he gets it done underneath.

Mayfield has one weak link in their defense. I’m not going to throw a 16/17 year old under the bus, but it was obvious in the Graves game. Paducah is obviously more athletic than us. If they find it…

Who in this region is not playing you? Marshall, Calloway, Madisonville? Those are running clocks in the first half. Mayfield is gonna have to schedule BG teams, Owensboro, or other parts of the state if they truly want competition. I’m sure they are fine with scheduling in the first and second region and keeping their winning percentages high though.

Hard to believe, but some teams in the Jackson Purchase won’t even schedule us anymore. Sometimes you have to bite the bullet and travel to dang near Louisville to play Bullit East. Scheduling I’m sure is hard on coaches but I’d like to see Mayfield play some of the teams in the bigger classes out of curiosity.

As a long time retired official and then an observer I am really glad to see the KHSAA make that decision. The only way we see improvement is by oversight and addressing situations like this one.

On one side I see this on the other side TPride makes a good point. Graves was called for 12 men on the field last night on a 4th and 1 they converted. I was assured by an assistant that the film told a different story and that there was only 11.

Did this call cost the Eagles the game? Probably not. But it it was a huge call at the time. Some calls are just bad, but refs are human and sometimes just screw up. I’m not sure the correct response to these type of situations.

This situation seems fitting, but definitely opening pandoras box.

  8. Tilghman is very athletic and very good team. We have got to clean up the mistakes. We have shown flashes of what we could be at times against PT and Mayfield. I did not know Marrs was playing. Definitely could tell he wasn’t 100% but it was nice seeing him back.

I still think we can challenge Owensboro in 3 weeks at home but we have a long way to go.

  9. Graves had trouble stopping the pass against Mayfield. What does PT like to do?

I think we put up more points on the board than we did last week, but I’m just not sure we can slow down the air attack. My fandom cannot let me pick against my Eagles, so I refuse to post a score. Ha!

Eagles need to get through this game healthy, then the schedule softens for a couple of weeks. Hopefully they will be able to get 100% heathy those weeks and be ready for when they face Owensboro.

Graves came out and moved the ball early. The Gregory to Acree connection was money, and they should have kept calling that play until the Cardinals figured it out.

Truth is, this game could have been alot worse. Mayfield had two touchdowns called back by penalties, and one dropped pass that would have given the Cardinals the ball deep in Eagle territory. On top of that, we took a knee in the redzone to end the game. While Graves had some good drives, they didn’t see the Cardinal redzone much at all.

I think the score was as far apart distantly as bad as it could be from Graves standpoint.

One of those tds was the starting offense against our second string. I don’t think Coach Morris realized that our 2s were in. I know he never runs the score up. That’s also the drive they kneeled it.

If Graves center doesn’t snap the ball over Gregory’s head opening drive I feel we would have scored in that drive. Graves got stopped in the redzone, but if they finish that drive there’s another score, our defensive end dropped what would have been a pick 6 on a screen. Then there were 2 blown coverages on 3rd and long lead to Mayfield tds.

I understand what point you’re making but it’s very easy to do it the other way.  Alright time for me to move on! Ha!

Hats off to the Cards. Hope you guys win out!
