Rank the Coaches in the 10th Region
brooksville replied to RoyalWildcat's topic in KY Boys Basketball (High School)
Newport is actually a 2A football school with around 410 kids. To compete in the All A Classic you have to have below below 500 I think. However Bath County competes in it and has 580 kids so the line of "All A" is different from "KHSAA Class A" -

Agreed. Aric Russell had a great run at Newport. -

I think you missed the point of my post. I never said an All A State Championship was better than an actual state championship. The last All A school to win a state championship was Painstville in 1996 with JR VanHoose. It is just not a realistic goal for small public schools anymore. This is Mike Code's only year he's had a losing record in his 14 years at Bishop Brossart. You don't think he's ever been offered a coaching job at a bigger school with all the success he's had? If he was at a bigger school he would just as much, if not more success as the coaches on the top of your list. -

Ouch that one hurt. 1955 was the last time when they won a 10th Region title. Brooksville/Bracken County only has 6 in school history. The point I was trying to make was coaches at smaller schools are unfairly judged on their coaching ability because they haven't won a regional title. That last All A school to win a 10th Region Title was Bishop Brossart in 2000, 17 years ago. And before that it was Maysville in 1989, 29 years ago. Bracken County has won Region in 1925, 1926, 1939, 1940, 1944, and 1955. After that each year got tougher as schools consolidated and got bigger while the small town Polar Bears stayed the same. I hope you understand the point I'm trying to make. Winning a regional title takes a good coach. But just because you don't have one on your resume doesn't make you a bad one. I'm sure if Mike Code or Terrance Brooks decided to coach at 4A Mason/Bourbon/Harrison or a 6A Clark/Montgomery/Campbell they would have regional titles as well. However they both have All A State Chanpionship titles which I think is equally if not more impressive. -

I don't know why people on here think you have to win a region title to be considered a good coach. -

Is WFTM broadcasting all the games? -
That's what I thought just wasn't sure. I don't get out of the 10th Region much!

Usually when a coach or fan yells at a ref it's because they don't know the rules. There's no such thing as an over the back or reach in! And the charge call is the hardest for people to understand. If you have two feet on the ground with your torso facing the defender, you can take charge moving, sideways, jumping, etc. -
Campbell, Scott, Mason, GRC could all win. No team has beat either team by more than 7.

I think Harrison County has more talented players on their roster. However Bracken County has the better experience, coaching, and discipline. They also have the best player on the court. So I'll take a similar result from December with the Polar Bears winning by 10-15. This still by no means is an easy win. Harrison County can play well at anytime.

Mike Code has had all of his success at small school. If you judge a coach's ability by how many regional championships they've won (especially at a small school), there's not many successful coaches out there. IMO Mike Code has done more with less. Brossart's players typically aren't the most athletic however their defense and ability to slow the game down has made some really good teams. Here's a short summary on Mike Code by @Mustang: CoachMikeCode -

He learned from one of the best! I think Keaton will become a better coach as he gets a few more years under him. He knows his stuff and loves the game. You can't expect someone to be a great coach after only 2 years, and I think that goes for everyone. the people at the top of this list have been coaching for a decade or more. -

The Camels and Cardinals meet at The Fieldhouse Wednesday night at 6:00 in a great game to start the regional tournament. The winner will play the winner of the following Bracken County/Harrison County game. Campbell County comes in as 37th district champion and a record of (28-4). Campbell County has been the weekly #1 ranked team for most of the season, only losing to one 10th region team (Bracken County) and beating Scott in two close games but managed pull out the victory on last second shots by seniors Garren Bertsch and Cole Hegyi. George Rogers Clark comes in as 40th district runner-up with a record of (20-12). George Rogers Clark has surprised many under the new leadership of Coach Josh Cook with a group full of juniors that are better a year early than expected. They have climbed up to the #3 spot in the rankings falling to #2 Paris three times on the season. Previous meetings: 12/10/16- Campbell County 91, George Rogers Clark 65 (Claryville)

The Polar Bears and Thorobreds meet at the Fieldhouse Wednesday at 7:30 following the conclusion of what should be a great George Rogers Clark/Campbell County game. Bracken County comes in as 39th district runner-up with a record of (16-14). They have 6 out of their last 8 games falling to GRC and Mason County in the district finals. Bracken County is trying to win their first regional tournament game since 1989. Harrison County comes in as 38th district champion with a record of (6-25). They have played well in the post-season thus far upsetting Pendleton County in the first round of the district tournament and beating Robertson County to take home the championship on their home floor. Previous meetings: 12/22/16- Bracken County 69, Harrison County 57 (The Fieldhouse) 1/21/17- Harrison County 55, Bracken County 52 (Cynthiana) I'll post my prediction later in the thread; please be constructive:
