Yes sorry. I meant loss to NDA. When I say small small school I think I’m talking more about the expectation of the basketball program. HC was the literal state champion team four years ago. I don’t think anyone involved with HC basketball would be content with being in the same sentence as Brossart. Hopefully you aren’t either.

Your optimism is healthy. Before the season started I would be completely with you. But a bad loss to Dixie. A close loss to small small school Brossart. Those are 9th region teams. So saying HC is the 4th best team in the 9th seems really optimistic but I hope you are right when we get to tourney time! Also Dixie has played Scott and SK and lost handily to both.

Yeah we must be watching different teams. Losses to Oldham, Notre Dame AND Brossart! Seriously... NDA is a bunch of freshman. AND Brossart. No offense to Brossart but I was thinking HC would be on the level of NKY teams like Scott, Dixie, and SK this season. They have clearly underperformed my expectations. Maybe they were too high? But Crigler, McClendon and Simpson are GOOD players and upperclassmen now. AND they have Thomas who is the tallest most dominant center in NKY. So yeah they are way underperforming IMO. How would characterize HC as having success? Victories over Newport and Ludlow?

This one had little doubt. Short of a bad shooting night combined with some other unique things Conner was not going to lose this game. As a previous poster said the word is out now that Dixie is good so they aren’t sneaking up on anyone. Was it close at all? Or was Conner is strong control the whole time? Although this leads to my question. Has Dixie underperformed expectations more than any other 9th region team? Going into the season I expected them to push the top 9th region teams but with 20 point losses to SK and Scott they seemed to be struggling to keep up. They got a nice win over Campbell recently so I was thinking maybe turning the corner? Good game for Dixie vs NDA coming up to see where they are more. Before the season I would have expected Dixie to blow them away but we’ll see now. Holy Cross has underperformed expectations too.

Sounds like one heck of a team. They have a lot of success? How do they compare to the rest of the state?

Scott high school has looked strong. I think they will be in the top 20 soon. Mya Meredith is one of the leading points players in the state. Summer Secrist brings great play and senior leadership.

Whitney Lind and Kay Friehofer are 8th graders for Cooper varsity and are the two leading points per game players. Lind is averaging over 16 ppg. 9th grader Madelyn Lawson starts varsity at Dixie averaging 8ppg and over 8 rpg. At NDA 9th graders Lacey Bradshaw (11.6 ppg, 6.8rpg) and Macie Feldman (6.7 ppg) are varsity starters. At Simon Kenton, 9th grader Sereniti Webb averaging 5.6 ppg and 4.5 rpg is a varsity starter. These young girls are starting on big schools in one of the strongest basketball areas in the state. Are there other 8th or 9th graders starting varsity or 8th graders in NKY making significant contributions?

Great job Zoie! Been such a strong hooper since very young! I believe Zoie was starting or a significant contributor to varsity since her 8th grade year.

Great players in NKY these years. Not really a surprise if you’ve followed girls basketball for awhile. The senior and junior classes around NKY have been loaded since they were young. The current 8th and 9th grades are also looking strong. Seems like several teams have 8th or 9th graders starting JV or playing varsity currently? Dixie, SK, Cooper and NDA are schools that seem to have particularly strong young talent. Would like to hear from others. What 8th graders are out there starting JV and or playing varsity? What 9th graders out there are starting varsity?

If your following the scores this week. Conner has beaten Eastern and Sacred Heart. Highlands has beaten Lincoln County and Butler. Conner is in the finals of a tournament that included Elizabethtown, CAL, Manual and others. Highlands and Conners only losses are to Ryle in good games. Ryle has blew out Male and is still undefeated. GRC lost to Russell. Whose left?

The pre-Christmas tournaments seem to be saying so. Only top team is Scott County not included in the two tournaments.

This is great. Between Conner and Highlands the 9th is making some big time noise! Congratulations to the Cougars and Bluebirds. Keep up the winning!

I don’t think NDA is too surprising at least at this point, like others have said, given their schedule. I thought Dixie would be stronger than they’ve been. I thought they would compete with the top 9th region teams but they may be another year away from that. They had a semi close game with Cooper and got thwacked by SK. I thought Holmes would be much more competitive than they’ve been. Graham is good and they have the big from Holy Cross there now. As mentioned in other threads they seem to be playing below their talent level. Walton seems much better than I expected. They have a few good wins over decent teams and lost a close one to SK.

Probably the last week for Ryle at #1. Maybe they win some but to run the LexCath Traditional Bank gauntlet with the big #1 target on your back will be very difficult. This tournament always has top teams and talent! Kudos to the LexCath and Traditional Bank people for always creating a great event. In the past you could get video on PrepSpin, will the streams be available again this year?

I think St.Henry, NDA and Holy Cross are right there with Dixie too.

I know Cooper is young, maybe 2-3 starting middle schoolers but this is still surprising. Ludlow have a strong upperclass? They have a couple excellent players? What tipped the scales in this game?

Did not see the game but heard as first mentioned it was closer than the score. Home crowd and good coaching probably kept the Bluebirds in the game. Ryle swept Highlands and Conner last year, but that’s a lot of games last year and this year. Hard to imagine they can sustain that with a lack of depth and young coaching. But the only games that really matter are in Feb/March, so as everyone has mentioned we will see.

Let’s be honest. The 9th region is one of the top regions in the state. Either the 9th or the 7th region. Teams from the 8th or 10th (besides GRC and maybe SK a little) are not at the same level as the top 3-4 Ninth region teams.

Coopers defense was way more effective than I thought. Watching them shut down Draud but yet still not let the other Beechwood players get any good shots was not expected. I was rooting for Beechwood but by the end was drawn to root for Cooper cause the defense was great to watch and you could only appreciate the hustle and effort. I’ve said this before, coaching is most underrated part of basketball. If in doubt always go with the team with the veteran and proven coach. Coach Sullivan has earned every bit of his stellar reputation.

Any details on this game? Seen Dixie play this year and they seemed really good. A little surprised by the score? Was it a close game? Congratulations to Ally, she was a great high school player! Fun to watch!
