  1. NDA dominated this game for the better part of 70 minutes. HHS gets their lone goal in the first half off a ball played sky high that skims the cross bar on the way down and lands a yard or two in front of the goal where an unmarked Deckert for HHS knocks it into the back of the net, 1-0 at the half. NDA's first goal is off a well taken corner kick to the near post that beats the keeper, didn't see or hear who got credit for this goal. NDA's second goal is way of a PK, third from a beautifully struck free kick from about 25+ yards out, 2nd and 3rd goals by Wilhoite, best player on the field last night by far. Did not see the 4th goal. Nice size crowd and atmosphere at Tower Park. The rubber match, assuming they meet again in Regionals, should be interesting.
  2. Penalty box, penalty area and goals are.
  3. Have you also not understood why MLB fields are not uniform as well?
  4. Short width and length can play a factor. On the girls side, St Ursula in OH has an exceptionally short field in length. I haven't seen them play in years but when I did watch them play at home they used it to their advantage by pushing their back line forward and their keeper was aggressive in coming off her line. Opponents playing balls over the top or through balls into space between the penalty area struggled. So in this situation is was a big advantage for St Ursula's keepers. On the boys side I remember Trinity's field being very narrow. I think most home teams have an advantage playing on a smaller then normal field, they gear their tactics for it and are accustomed to it.
  5. Bigger question may be, who paid for the Ryle police escort?
  6. Another thought to all of this strength/agility training. If every team has a comparable program, would they not offset themselves? Is the Anderson's way ahead of the field at this time simply because they are one of the few doing this? Again I am pro strength and agility training, for no other reason then to help keep injuries down. But even this issue may have negative effects. Once every player is bigger, faster, stronger will injuries become less or more frequent? If you look at the NFL as an example where every team has a very comparable strength program, every player is bigger, faster, stronger then 10 yrs prior, yet with better equipment and a ton more safety related rules are injuries occurring just as frequent in the NFL? Not making an argument for or against, just something to think about.
  7. Before you read the three sentences below I am an advocate for strength and agility training for HS soccer players. So in no way am I bashing any coach or school that has a program, I wish every HS soccer program had one. As far as I know CCH soccer has no strength training program. They are the 2015 KY State Champions and 2016 State Runner ups. This clearly supports the bold statement above. When was the last time Anderson won a OH state boys soccer Championship or reached the finals?
  8. Drug & Alcohol Policy - Covington Catholic High School As a KY tax paying resident, I find it inexcusable all publicly funded schools including colleges do not have a zero tolerance drug and alcohol policy. Same goes for private K-12 schools, but that is their prerogative, the risk they (without having a similar policy) take of loosing enrollment. No doubt CCH (pretty sure the first NKY HS private or public to implement a zero tolerance drug and alcohol policy) will see an increase in enrollment due to this policy.
  9. I have seen post on social media sites showing a variety of HS basketball teams, both private and public working out at as a team at public, for charge facilities. To name a few Cooper, CCH, Dixie HS boys basketball. If these players are being forced to pay for these services out of pocket or the school (i.e. the tax payers for the public school teams) is picking up the cost when the school has their own facility but is unable to accommodate these teams due to lack of space, etc due to prioritizing for football, something is very, very wrong.
  10. Just one's opinion but I think it is naive to think kids are enticed to transfer to another school by playing against that school. I think it is safe to say by the time most kids get to junior high school, them and their parents are well aware of the options in their area and what each option has to offer in way of academics, athletics, and any other extra activities and policies, such as a zero drug and alcohol policy, etc all schools have to offer. If as a parent you do not know these things by the time your child is in middle school you are doing your children a disservice.
  11. I agree, strength training for HS soccer teams would be a plus and believe in the years to come this will become more common place. La Salle is another OH soccer team to have a strength program. Are more schools not doing this due to space and time constraints on their facilities, is football getting priority? College soccer teams did none or very little strength training years ago, today it has become the norm, HS is sure to follow, especially given more and more HS players are one sport athletes.
  12. Can't imagine another tournament in the tri-state area with the caliber of teams in this one. Below is the current in state rank of each team. My guess is this tournament will draw big crowds, $12 gets you a seat for every game and home by Sunday morning for Mass! KY St X #3 Trinity #5 CCH #6 Lex Cath #12 OH St Francis DeSales #10 Moeller #11 IN Brebeuf Jesuit #33
  13. Not at all. In reference to St Henry's field, which has been well documented on BGP.
  14. Agree with "High level game, two good teams, entertaining game to watch." CCH had 3 good chances in the second half, they convert either one and the result is likely reversed. These are the games that prepare you for the post season.
  15. Thanks YC. Looks like St Henry has a walk in the park to the finals Vs likely Louisville Collegiate.
  16. Is there a bracket for this tournament posted on line somewhere?
  17. Russo-OSBack, Dietz-CBack did not play at all, Deimling-OSMid played less then 10 minutes and Seibert-OSBack came out due to an injury, all Vs Ryle on Saturday. All 4 are starters and I believe all are day to day but have no idea if any of them are going to play tonight Vs Anderson. Curk-striker had been a starter or first one or two off the bench, may be done for the season (not certain) with an injury.
  18. "Crusaders hang on" did Calvary mount a challenge at the end? Where was this game played? Something tells me @ St Henry.
  19. 13 games in CCH has 6 shut outs and have allowed no more then 2 goals in any one game (twice). Anything can happen but I would be surprised to see a shootout.
  20. Difficult one to predict not knowing how healthy CCH will be for this one. Even though they beat Ryle with 2 starters out and another one limited to a few minutes, Anderson is on another level. Will Anderson bring a little extra to avenge for CCH beating them 3-1 last year in Anderson? Promises to be a good game for all Future Colonels (Night), hopefully this adds to what should be a good crowd.
  21. Clear handball which the center ref called right away. The play started from a corner kick sent to the far side of the box, CCH player heads it and the Ryle player blocked it with his hand. On the first PK attempt (which was good) a CCH player enter the box to soon so CCH had to retake the PK attempt, back of the net again.
  22. CCH has to reach a little deeper down their bench in this one, two starters out and another only goes for about 10 minutes. CCH controls most of the game and were more dangerous throughout, good team win. Next three games against top flight OH teams, up next Vs Anderson on Tuesday in Park Hills then Moeller and St Francis DeSales in Louisville, road doesn't get any easier.
