  1. I made a point to state safety isn't a reason (at least for me) in a previous post. I agree there are risks, but aren't there risks in all sports? What about kids that play football, wrestling, lacrosse back to back to back? I've never heard an outcry for kids that go through that gauntlet which seems much tougher than what a spring/fall combo would look like.
  2. Again, what evidence is there that proves playing a shortened season in the spring and a regular season in the fall impacts safety. What's the logic there? I believe a full season in the fall that followed a shortened season in the spring would be perfectly OK, but we would still have an option to cut games or push back a month if needed. Seems like a better alternative than what we're faced with now.
  3. Much needed time and hopefully less fear and concern about the virus. As we've already seen in a couple days of practice, the current climate doesn't have the stomach to accept a few cases. Too many factors at play that will shut down and/or make a complete mess of any contact sports season in the fall.
  4. For me, moving to the spring has nothing to do with safety and/or cases. It has everything to do with increasing the likelihood that football starts and finishes. But since you brought it up, what evidence do you have that supports having a shortened spring season with a fall season (that could be shortened or pushed back as well) is “unsafe”? If that was the case, why do we allow kids to play multiple contact sports year round? A full season of football and wrestling back to back is very taxing on the body, but we’ve accepted that since both became a sport. Also, I’ve seen plenty of youth/ms aged kids that have played 20+ games a season. Happens all the time now with post season tournaments.
  5. I hope you’re right, but I’m of the opinion if it doesn’t get discussed and planned out before the fall season, it’s highly unlikely it will get done. A lot of moving parts to make that happen. As mentioned, spring sports already lost a full season this year. A reboot in the spring would certainly interfere with those sports again. Not sure our state would go for that.
  6. I haven’t heard any plans of finishing football in the spring if it gets cancelled in the fall. Is that even an option? I know there were major concerns with interfering with spring sports due to overlapping athletes in addition to spring sports getting cancelled last year. It seems we’re now boxed in with the fall unless something drastically changes in the next couple of days.
  7. Don’t misunderstand my point. I have no concerns about Covid for my kids. None whatsoever. I just think the “Let Them Play” movement grossly underestimated how quickly the plug is going to get pulled. Season is going to be a mess and most likely will get cancelled. 1 day in and there are already numerous flare ups and issues. If we wanted them to “play and finish” we should have protested to start in the spring.
  8. Agreed. Seems like the "Let Them Play" movement didn't take everything into consideration.
  9. I was in favor of playing in the spring like many other states have done. In short, the likelihood of completing a season in the spring is far greater than in the fall. To answer your question, I'm not sure what backup plan would have worked. Maybe a schedule that accounted for a shutdown and reboot in the spring. Or a plan that outlines how we're going to deal with the cancelled games that we're doomed to have (not sure if that was discussed or not). It just feels like "now or never" isn't a plan. It was a way to please the masses.
  10. Great news. Unfortunately feels like we’re boxed into the Fall w/out a backup plan. Just hope we can complete the season or all of this was for nothing.
  11. Exactly why I’ve been advocating pushing back to Spring. Another delay or an outbreak (which is likely) in the Fall = no football.
  12. I'm sure that is what my lawyer buddy would say too.
  13. I agree with your stance on the obvious over-reaction. I'd let my kids play today without any concern, but refusing to accept the "new norms" doesn't mean they don't exist. KYHSAA is dealing with reality.
  14. I agree with you 100%. We're ignoring the data that is most important. But does anyone think that's going to miraculously change in the next month? I'm not a lawyer, but have been told from a lawyer that a waiver would probably not work in the case of Covid. He sent me this article: https://www.sportico.com/law/analysis/2020/six-reasons-to-question-the-enforceability-of-covid-19-waivers-in-sports-1234608353/
  15. I suspect it will still be lingering, but it buys us valuable months that could potentially help things improve or if nothing else, simmer down. I agree, the science doesn't justify all the changes we've made in our society, but it's the new norm. We have to play the hand that is currently dealt. I don't believe there is a chance we can start a season and finish in the Fall based on the current climate, do you? If one case shuts down professional sports, then the current Fall plan is destined to fail. Then what? Most likely another cancelled season of sports. Seems like a terrible plan to me.
  16. If we want HS football to start and finish, we should be pushing for a Spring season. If the Reds shut down for a single case, then how are we expected to complete a full season in the Fall? Professional sports have the funds/insurance to do as many tests required to monitor their players. KY High Schools do not. A Spring season isn't ideal, but at least will give us a fighting chance.
  17. I have no information to support Boone County is denying them to play, just common sense. If teams are forced to create a shortened schedule, out of state games seem to be the first to cut.
  18. Cincinnati is closer to Ryle than Louisville. I’m sure that has a lot to do with it. Ryle did scrimmage Trinity back to back years just 3 years ago. As it pertains to the games dropped, Covid was mostly to blame. CovCath was 1st game of the season and a non-district game. No brainer that was being cut. Elder is an out of state game. I believe most of those games are being or considered being dropped. The notion that games are being dropped because of fear is ludicrous. Ryle has gone out of their way to play top competition (Elder, Indy Cathedral, Colerain, CovCath, Highlands, Scott Cty to name a few). I don’t believe many CovCath or Elder fans believe this year’s team is better than last year’s and Ryle played both of those games on the road.
  19. https://chsaanow.com/2020-08-04/chsaa-announces-2020-21-athletics-and-activities-calendar/ This seems like a plan that would work. No sports from Oct 10th-Jan 4th (projected peak time for Covid/Flu). Football in the Spring.
  20. Not sure what happened w/ the schedule, but it seemed to work out. I thought Ockerman did a great job hosting the event. Refs were good. Ceremony after each game was a nice touch. Thanks to all that volunteered to pull it off!
  21. Gray 6th over Highlands by 19. Finished 27-0 in NKY this season.
  22. Saturday 2/8/20 @ Ockerman 7th grade girls = 9:00 6th grade girls = 10:45 6th grade boys = 12:30 7th grade boys = 2:15 8th grade girls = 4:00 Monday 2/10/20 @ Ockerman 8th grade boys = 7:30 This has changed multiple times, but this is the schedule as of this morning.
  23. 6th Grade Boys Highlands won in OT over Ockerman Gray beat Conner by 15+ No dog in the fight, but there were some very questionable calls in the Highlands/Ockerman game that contributed to the final result. Hate to see a team lose like that. Kudos to the Highlands player that knocked down 3 free throws w/ no time left to put the game in OT. That was clutch.
  24. 6th Grade @ Highlands: Thursday Ockerman vs Highlands 5:30 Conner vs Gray 7:00
