Final from Conner. Great, great game between the two 33rd district rivals. Conner scores on a squeeze bunt in the bottom of the ninth for the win. Olivia Henry from Conner and Alex Dummitt from Cooper enjoyed a good old fashioned pitchers dual - they both were on their game all night.

Congrats to Hailey Anderson from Cooper on her signing with Pikeville! Great young lady and Pikeville is getting a steal by signing her. Her best basketball is still ahead of her! Very proud of her as a former coach of hers!

Final from Union. Alex Dummitt threw a no-hitter today in leading Cooper over Lloyd 16-0 in 4 innings. Sophomore Allana Matteson hit a grand slam today to lead the Cooper offense, and with the homer she became the all-time RBI leader at Cooper. 7th grade shortstop Dylan Scott collected her 1st career varsity hits and RBI in the win.

Clyde she pitched well tonight. She kept us off balance most of the night with her change up.

Great job last night NewCath ladies! Way to come out in that nice cold weather and play well. Have a great season! Always great to see the NewCath coaching staff, great guys who do a great job with their team!

Speed will be a key this season, we’ve really gotten a lot faster and a lot more experienced than we were. We feel like we are going to surprise some people this year with the lineups we are going to be able to put onto the field. Alex Dummitt is a key, she had a great 2016 season as our starting pitcher and we look for her to continue to keep getting better and better. Kayari Suganuma and Cayla Petrowski, two newcomers to Northern Kentucky last year, were big assets to our improvement as a team last season. Suganuma was our sparkplug, as she had a tremendous first year in NKY, while Petrowski took over behind the plate for us and was our field leader. Returning starters Collen Hume (5 year starter)(coming off a serious knee injury but has rehabbed so hard she is ready to go), Hailey Nicholas (4 year starter)(coming off a great basketball season for the region runnerup team), and Allana Matteson (4 year starter) are the offensive leaders for the Jaguars. Matteson at her current pace, only a sophomore, will end her career as the all time leader in most all offensive categories for Cooper. Taylor Keener and her speed is a big asset to our outfield as well, and we have her fulltime now since she isn’t playing club volleyball. Christina Luehrmann made the move to 1st base last season and had a great year, hitting over .330 for the season. Leah Moore, Anna Ryder, Elena Studer, and Clhoe Kincart are key returnees for us, all of them capable of being in the lineup and all have the flexibility of playing 5+ positions, plus all have the speed to help us in the lineup. The three young 7th graders, Dylan Scott, Amber Chaney and Gweny Wessling, add tons of speed, fielding ability, and lots of playing experience, and in Chaney’s case good pitching for us this season. We are ready to get on the field - without the snow and cold weather of course!

What a pleasant surprise we had at Cooper High School last year when 8th grader Kayari Suganuma came out for softball. Little did we know at the time how good this young lady was. Kay, as we call her, proceeded to have a great 2016 season - she hit .532, accumulating 41 hits over 26 games. She also scored 40 runs, had an OBP of .649, and stole 41 bases in 45 attempts. Kay also played a great shortstop for us, continually making plays that most shortstops can't. With that said, we are expecting even bigger things from her this season. Now a freshman, Kay has grown, gotten stronger, and actually seems a little quicker than before. She has put in the work to have a great 2017 season. She'll be back at shortstop for us this season, captaining our infield and batting out of the lead off spot. She is a fine young lady who is adjusting to life in this country very easily and is really enjoying her high school experience. She is also one of the most humble and considerate young ladies around, her teammates love her and they all respect how good she is. On a side note, we want to thank @Lawnboy13, @RCC9, and the others who all made her feel welcome in NKY softball and all of the nice things they said about her really helped her to adjust here.

Hailey Anderson finished her career at Cooper this weekend in the 9th region championship game, and she went out firing with 25 points, almost pulling the game out for Cooper. She played great in all 3 regional games, and fans attending the regional got to see what a special player she is. In my opinion she has been extremely underrated during her 4 year varsity career at Cooper. She finished as a 1000 point scorer at Cooper, but stats don't do her game justice. Hailey is one of the hardest workers you'll find anywhere, constantly working on her game and looking to improve. I had the pleasure of being one of her coaches over the last few years, and she was an absolute joy to coach. She is like another coach on the floor, she knows the game as well as anyone and the best part is she is coachable as the day is long! Her best basketball is still ahead of her and I can't wait to see where she ends up playing college basketball. Hailey, thanks for a great career and for being such a role model for young players in NKY!

Alex Dummitt for Cooper High School is undoubtedly one of the hardest workers in NKY softball. Alex is beginning her 5th year as a varsity starter at Cooper, and she has worked so hard over these years to become one of the most consistent and successful pitchers in NKY. Alex started as an infielder and was thrust into the role of a pitcher a couple of years ago and she threw herself into this, working and developing her game all the time. Alex had a record of 14-12 last year, with an ERA of 4.14, walking only 37 batters all year. Alex also is one of our best hitters, and she hit .288 last year batting out of the 5th spot in the lineup. Alex struck out only 7 times in over 100 plate appearances, and she had 41 at bats of 6 or more pitches last year - she knows how to work the count and has a great eye at the plate. She also stole 18 bases last year and was caught only twice, although she makes us nervous with her sliding as our pitcher! She has been named one of our captains for this season, a very deserving honor! Alex will be playing summer ball with KAOS. A better teammate you will not find, Alex Dummitt is a great young lady with a bright future and we're lucky to have her!

As coaches at Cooper, @allsport71 and I are working hard to keep building our program. Part of that is getting our players recognition and exposure. With that I wanted to talk about our players here on BGP. First up, Allana Matteson is a sophomore 3rd baseman for Cooper, with this being her 4th year as a varsity starter. A two-time Honorable Mention all-conference player, Matteson hit over .400 for the second year in a row last year, finishing at .412 with 2 homers and 35 runs batted in over 26 games. Impressive stat was her strikeouts, cleanup hitter who struck out only 4 times in over 100 plate appearances. She is only a couple of RBI's away from being the all-time leader at Cooper. Good third baseman who has a cannon for an arm, she has worked hard on her defense over the last couple of years. She's a great young lady who has a work ethic that is unmatched - she is constantly working on her game to get better. Luckily for us we have her for 3 more years at Cooper, where if she continues progressing she'll finish as the career leader in almost all offensive categories.

Lloyd was led by Addison Viox, LayLay Pouncy, Jayla Labordeaux, and Rumour Setters. These 4 stepped up big for the Lady Juggernauts!

Final from Erlanger. Lloyd Memorial holds off Ludlow in the 34th district semi-final matchup tonight at Lloyd. Ludlow jumped out to a big lead but Lloyd clawed their way back and then held on for the win. This victory puts Lloyd into the district championship against Dixie Heights on Friday night, and also puts Lloyd into the regionals for the first time in forever!

Devin didn't play AAU ball so she didn't get as much exposure. Coach Teke from Lloyd is working on several things for her, her options are open. Great kid, great supportive family, she'd be a steal for several programs.

Devin Cheatum from Lloyd scored her 1500th career point on Saturday in Lloyd's victory over Pendleton County on Senior Day in Erlanger. Devin also set the Lloyd single game scoring record on Saturday with 39 points. She needs 9 more points to become the all-time leading scorer at Lloyd, where she will pass Sarah Fox to become number 1. Great young lady, great player who flies under the radar. If you've seen her play, you know how good she is! Congrats to Devin!

Tez is a great talent, and yes he is only 13. He plays AAU with my son for @Basketball12345. He is fun to watch when he gets on a roll! A lot of people on BGP may not see him because they don't play locally in the leagues around here. They play mostly in Louisville, Ohio, Indiana, and other areas.

Highlands and Ockerman played a great game in 8th grade tourney. Highlands ended up victorious in overtime, winning by 4. Highlands led by as much as 14 but Ockerman came storming back in the 2nd half. Parker Fields converted a three point play with 5 seconds left to send it to overtime. Fields ended up with a game high 32 points. Coach Vories from Highlands does a great job with their team, constantly making adjustments and changes. Very good basketball coach! He has done wonders with that team, especially considering three of the top players moved up to freshman. The Muller kid can flat out shoot the basketball for Highlands, he gets hot and watch out!

Final from Erlanger. Lloyd Lady Juggernauts with a big district win, improving to 3-0 in the district. Devin Cheatum with a game high 31 points as she closes in on 1500 in her career.

Lloyd is 2-0 in the district, still have to play St. Henry and Ludlow. Not sure about the other records

Big district game tonight, Lady Juggernauts come away with the win 61-51 at Lloyd. Devin Cheatum scored a game high 28 points to lead the Lady Juggernauts. She is one of the most underrated players in NKY!

Clyde great memory sir! Big difference between this game and last for 6th and 8th, you are correct. Press wasn't a problem this time, but I don't think either 6th or 8th grade Conner played well either.

Conner traveled to Florence tonight to take on Ockerman. 6th grade Conner won in a tight game throughout. 7th grade OMS continued their winning ways tonight, winning by double digits over Conner. 7th grade OMS was led by Cole Shumate and Donovan Robinson. 8th grade Conner won in a very close game. Ockerman lead for most of the game but couldn't hold on. Ethan Ginn hit HUGE free throws for Conner, 8-8 down the stretch. Gabe Workman, Riley Osterbur and Spencer Couzins played well also. Parker Fields led OMS with a game high 17 points.

Big win tonight for the Lady Juggernauts! Devin Cheatum led the Juggernauts with 28 points, including several big shots down the stretch.

Agree with that 100 percent! I had the pleasure of coaching her in middle school and in high school for a little while. Unbelievable young lady, great work ethic, hard nosed, and a great teammate. Proud of her getting her 1000 point!!

IHM traveled to Ockerman on Thursday. 6th and 7th grade Ockerman teams won, 8th grade IHM won in a good game. 7th grade OMS was led by Cole Shumate, Donovan Robinson and Teon Neale in scoring. Corbin Fletcher, Tyler Krohman, and Steven Schuliger all played well also for OMS in the win. 7th grade OMS back on a roll after suffering their only loss over Christmas break. 8th grade game was a duel between Wyatt Vieth of IHM and Parker Fields of OMS. They each finished with 27 points, a lot of fun watching these two battle (especially since they're good friends).
