Tonight on the frozen tundra on Longbranch Rd., the visiting Breds come away with the 14-4 5 inning victory. Big thanks to Head Coach Tony Fields and his righthand man, Danny Curtis,....and all the Jags staff for getting the field in playing condition for tonight's chilly affair.

 

NewCath wastes no time getting on the board in the first, as Kathryn Schreiber reaches on a throwing error, and one-out later comes home on Haley Meyers triple to the right-center gap.

 

The Jags tie things up in their half of the 1st after leadoff hitter Kayari Suganuma peppers one down the 3rd base line into left, two batters later Allana Matteson sends a screamer to center to knot things up.

 

The Breds hang a 5-spot up in the 2nd courtesy of 2 walks, a WP, PB, an error and a 2-run double to the right-center gap by Kennedy Bin.

 

Jags get 1 back in the 2nd on a crazy play......Leah Moore draws a one-out walk, advances to 2nd on a WP, then Suganuma slaps one in front of the mound and Meyers throw is not in time. However, as the covering NewCath 2B Jenna Fryer is running to the circle to get Moore to retreat back to 3rd, Suganuma takes off for 2nd, Fryer looks to get her at 2nd, but sees Moore tashing for home and fires to the plate, but the throw is not in time, but Breds catcher, Kacy Zimmerman, throws a perfect strike to Alex Burkart at 3rd to get Suganuma trying to get greedy.

 

Neither team dented the plate in innings 3 or 4.

 

NewCath opens things up in the 5th as they send 13 batters to the plate and get RBI singles from Burkart, Katie Kelly, Kacy Zimmerman, & Kara Zimmerman. However, Lexy Breen had the big stick in the frame with a pair of RBI doubles.

 

Cooper gets a 2-run double to the rightfield corner off the bat of Christina Luehrmann to close out the scoring.

Have no idea how these pitchers had any feeling in their hands during this game, it was COLD!!!! :idunno:

 

NewCath will face Williamstown at home tomorrow, while the Jags are at home against district foe, Conner.
