kyhoopfever replied to PurplePride92's topic in KY Girls Basketball (High School)
took a informal poll last week asked 12 different coaches from 12 different regions 11 votes Boley 1 vote Creech -
Butler 78 Christian Academy of Louisville 40
kyhoopfever replied to passtheball's topic in KY Girls Basketball (High School)
Butler was most impressive of all the teams I saw yesterday. The Wessley kid from Louisville Christian was also a nice player but her team is just undermanned. It will tough for them to compete in the 7th region with the likes of Male, Manual, Sacred Heart and Eastern. -

I was able to attend these games yesterday after I promised my sister I would go shopping with her today. I was very impressed with Mercy. Eastern looked shocked the entire game. Porter was a non factor. She seemed intimidated by the two young tall players from Mercy. Butler was the best looking team yesterday. They seem to have all the parts and they are so deep. They played unselfishly and seemed ot be having alot of fun. Male is talented but they beat a depleted bullitt East team whose oint guard was absent due to illness and of course Duvall is also out. So the Lady chargers are rebuilding and getting stronger for next season but they play wiht alot of heart. Male has some issues with attitudes. Their lack of professional demeanor could cost them in the post season. Manual is a tough matchup with McKune. She appears to be able to dominate whenever she wants and with youngsters like Blackford, Griffin Smith and Ballard they are developing depth along the likes of Butler. Sacred Heart played gamely but lack of toughness down the stretch killed their chances. A couple silly fouls and turnovers as well as failure to block out on free throws led to their demise. You could hear their coach complaing about the refs but the refs were not the problem. The seemed to be very consistent in this game I thought the officiating was extremely good in all four games. I look forward to Friday Louisville has some very good teams. It is unfortunate only two of them will be at the state tournament -
Great win by the Jaguars. Coach Baisch has this team playing together and well. They are undoubtedly are becoming a top team without any top marquee players. A true sing of great coaching. They are a fun team to watch play. Eastern seemed to have the attitiude that they were going to destroy the Jaguars. But the second time around often changes things

Sacred Heart @ Notre Dame 1/15

The word is Sacred Heart is too easy to scout and thus defend. No imagination to either their offense or defense. Notre Dame should handle SHA -
Manual 69 Sacred Heart 52

I doubt if the sprained ankle made the difference. Hope she recovers soon. You made my point by stating that Manual did not make a 3 pointer in the game. If the star player had a sprained ankle, it seems a zone defense would have been even a better option defensively. I can only assume that a program like Sacred Heart would have either seen Manual play or watched them on film prior to the game. It does not take a rocket scientist to see that using a zine defense would be the way to play them. Heart is a young team. They need every opportunity to win to bolster their confidence. I hope to make the LIT. Some of the Wednesday matchups look pretty competitive. If I can keep my sister from dragging me to the outlet mall in Simpsonville I hope to be at Bellarmine on that Wednesday -
Manual 65 Eastern 61

This issue is not just a problem for the Louisville schools. It is statewide. I know there were several 8th graders playing fro Jeffersontown last year at the Lexington tournament, but a number of them are now elsewhere. I guess one solution would to not allow 8th graders or below be allowed to play in varsity games. However, the pool of talent for female players is not as deep as the male pools. There are some girls high school teams that are not very competitive from looking at the scores on the riherds board. So I am not sure what a good solution is. Open enrollment may end up making the stronger teams stronger. Kids are competitive. They do want to win. However, the AAU programs are hurting the high school programs as well in my opinion. Those who run the the AAU programs seem to be making lots of money at the expense of those who actually foot the bills. We are embarking on a nasty road for high school athletics -

Sorry CAP I disagree with you. Chris Souder is an excellent coach. He has a young group and he is doing what he needs to do to offset his team's lack of ability to defend teams in the half court. If he is only playing the so called starters, it is because the other kids have not shown they can do what he asks. -
Manual 69 Sacred Heart 52
kyhoopfever replied to passtheball's topic in KY Girls Basketball (High School)
Although I did not see this game, I would bet my lie savings that Sacred Heart played man defense. You would think they would realize that to win the 7th region they cannot defend the likes of Eastern Male or Manual that way. Thise teams have something that SHA lacks that being a true post presence. If they do not adapt they cannot win this region against those teams. The Sivils kid cannot guard all five on the other team. -

Etown Etown Etown. Butler the only team with a chance to be competitive with them -
Manual @ Sacred Heart 1/9
kyhoopfever replied to passtheball's topic in KY Girls Basketball (High School)
Manual on a high after beating Eastern. Sacred Heart struggles against teams with strong post player. Defense will be the key. I do not see Taylor providing much in this one. The young Manual talent will be the difference in my opinion. -

Are you suggesting potential internal issues at Eastern? Also did Pearl play? She is a talented kid no doubt -
so much parity this year...this poll could be changing often this season

Eastern 77 Whitko (IN) 59
kyhoopfever replied to TheMr.basketball's topic in KY Girls Basketball (High School)
According to Max Preps Whitko is ranked 2,240 in the US Eastern is ranked 312 Although these rankings are bases on an incomplete population because some schools do not report scores, it gives some idea of how good these teams fare nationally Elizabethtown for instance is KY's top ranked team by Max Preps at 105 -
Crusaders are down this year from what I have seen

Sacred Heart 68 Mercer County 62
kyhoopfever replied to dime dropper's topic in KY Girls Basketball (High School)
Also by looking at the scores it appears Mercer dominated all their other opponents in this tournament while Sacred Heart won by lesser margins Were the brackets unbalanced in Mercers favor ? How did Heart manage the full court press and half court zone traps? -
