The idea is the same. We teach kids from day one to give 100 percent when they compete. Then because of the way "winning" looks we expect them to let up. It goes against everything they have engrained in them. If you don't like the fact that a team could get smoked (like highlands did the other night) then give the officials the ability to call the game early. In boxing when you are whipped the ref can call it.

Why is football the only sport where feelings get hurt by this concept. In baseball no one says if you are up 9 to 1 that the coach should tell his players to "swing at everything and strike out, just don't hit the ball guys lets send them home with a little pride". At that is an 8 score difference. Or in football vernacular 56 points.

This is ridiculous. How do you tell a sophomore running back to take a fall in a varsity game when he is put in in the third quarter and breaks free. Those kids have earned the right to enjoy scoring a touchdown in front of the fans and having their name in the paper the next morning. When the score gets out of hand it only matters to the people in the stands and everyone else on Saturday morning. Friday night it is still a game and you play to win. If the score looks "run up" blame the coaching staff who couldn't come up with adjustments to make stops.

I think this falls under the "every play is designed to score" file. No matter who is on the field, there is always the possibility of breaking away and scoring. No offense can be expected to take a knee for a quarter to save face. When you have talent and depth you are going to score a lot, no way around it. if feelings are hurt, make more stops

I like Beechwood in this. Cov Cath has had to give everything each week. The high can't last forever. I think Beechwood pull ahead in second half.

Moral victory....not sure there is such a thing. Learning experience, yes. Anytime you can hang with a team like Elder then you chalk that up to learning you can play with anyone. You may not come out on top but you are going to make a game of it and have a chance at the end.

If you March out the birds remaining games and how they have played (copper good, cc bad, sc good, Ryle bad) then they should be on an up week for Cov Cath.

I think it's great that guys that played want to help. Maybe some of you should make a trip to practice and tell the current team that they can be successfull with the team they have. A little confidence booster from guys who have lived it may come in handy over the next couple of weeks. Hard times coming.

I can appreciate former players getting into the conversation but saying the current team only lacks "swagger" is harsh. Different players different times different coaches and teams not mirroring one of the big keys to your success. My high school football team sucked from the word go but I can promise you we never backed down from anyone, all we had going for us was the fight. And still got ran over.

I think teams have just figured out that they need to stuff between the tackles, have diciplined ends they stay home and don't get sucked in... Make the birds throw the ball.

You can be as strong as an ox but if you are trying to push an ox across from you are getting beat on the first step it's game over.

The overwhelming majority look like they are good all around athletes. Would be a natural fit in a basketball or baseball jersey. They lack size

It's not better talent it's because they are a 6 A school. They are supposed to win like this against smaller schools (stirring, stirring, stirring....)
