  1. While I agree that good footwork and speed are needed to play middle infield, I've never heard of that being critical skills for a catcher. I'm not sure what you consider a "high level" of competition, but Trusty is a freshman and Burch is a sophomore neither have caught at the varsity level and both play summer ball in their own age group. I think they are fine catchers and as I said before Mullins likes to use all the talent, so I think at least one of them or maybe both will see some action at the varsity level next year. It will certainly be interesting to see what happens in the middle infield. A lot of baseball happened this summer and kids will be bigger, stronger and more experienced. It's likely you might be surprised by what Mullins brings together up the middle for Beechwood next year.
  2. From what I've seen, Mullins will mix it up. I wouldn't be surprised to see the younger catchers in there against some of the weaker competition. I agree that Bankemper is a top pitcher, but Beechwood will have several strong pitchers in the rotation. Of course Fieger, Combs and Stringer you already mentioned, but seniors Kyle Rowe and Brett Slusher, and junior Noah Huseman were all part of the pitching rotation last year. I think Bankemper may pitch some, but catching is where BW could really use a big, strong player that can also hit really well.
  3. I think so, he's very athletic with good hands and a strong arm. Plus they have a very experienced, solid pitching lineup that will make it a little easier on a less experienced catcher.
  4. Good chance it will be Bankemper, and they have two very good younger catchers.
  5. Guess that does sound funny, they offered him a spot and he said yes....and as usual we are paying them.....maybe someday it will be the other way around
  6. Middle infielder/pitcher looking for a 16u travel team for next summer. Did well this year playing on an 18u team. Infield velocity-81, FB 80-83, CH 76, CB 67-70, 60 time of 7.45. Good hitter, played varsity during the high school season. Been to a couple of tryouts, but they didn't have openings in the middle infield. Private message me for more information.
  7. Midland Redskins are the only undefeated team left in New Mexico. If they win tonight, they will be in the final tomorrow. You can see it here: AABC Connie Mack World Series or follow on twitter here: https://twitter.com/midland_redskin
  8. Runion from Boone County, not sure when he graduated. But he played at Duke and triple A ball for quite awhile.
  9. Yep, I agree with you, but I think they definitely have a lot of young talent. 7 of their 9 regular starters are juniors and the jv and frosh teams had great seasons this year.
  10. They were absolutely better yesterday for sure. That's a lot different than saying they are the better team. I'm just saying it would take more than one win for me to decide bw is a better team than anyone. Even after beating covcath twice this year I wouldn't say we're a better team. We were just better on those two days. I'm sure it feels good to have your team win if they weren't getting the respect they deserve. Hopefully now they will. Good luck tonight.
  11. Sorry rebelsfan, I know you didn't announce boone county as the better team, that comment was about JBS5's earlier comment. Looked like you were agreeing with him. You are exactly right, that's baseball for sure. It was a very nice win for the rebels yesterday.
  12. Feiger is definitely one of the top bw pitchers, but anyone who saw Combs pitch against Covcath last week would probably disagree with you on this one.
  13. That's only partially true, NCAA baseball has a series to determine "the better team" as well as most other sports at many levels, whether they are televised or not. Announcing your team as the better team after one very close game is inflammatory at best and/or just plain arrogant. I'm not trying to say bw is the better team...the only thing I definitely saw was that Purnell pitched a heck of a game. Congrats to Boone on the win, too bad he won't be able to pitch against Highlands tonight.
  14. Hmmmm.....wonder why the mlb plays games in series of three and seven to determine the "better team"?
  15. Enquirer said he had 8, I lost count, but that sounds right.
