While D3 can't offer athletic scholarships, if the school is really interested in your son the coaches will work to put the best financial aid package available for your son. Football coaches at Hanover helped me find every bit of need and merit based financial aid I could qualify for which resulted in full tuition for me and they matched my KEES money since I went out of state. In total it costs me about $4000 a year to attend when full cost of admission and board is about $42,000. Moral of the story is no one is paying full admission to those types of schools. Athletics can be an avenue to get that aid and those types of schools know academics are why kids are there and have systems in place to help them succeed academically and athletically. If your son wants to get a great and affordable education and play football it is very possible.

Saint Joseph, etc. Decent football and entire school is engineering, math and science majors. We sent a lineman there last year, he absolutely loves it and got to play some dline as a freshman

So is Crume not an option? Seemed like it was assumed he was the guy but haven't heard him mentioned.

Any word on timeline of decision? Dudley Hilton doesn't make a lot of sense, how much longer is he going to want to coach?

If the transportation costs are that big of an issue then you would probably be disappointed many places. I think the growing trend is that athletic programs have to be 100% self sufficient. I know many places where you can't spend a penny unless you fundraised it, came from gate or booster club.

Maybe not always for test scores but administration also varies a lot. I'm in my 6th year of teaching and our school has had 2 different principals and 9 different people fill the 3 assistant principal spots while I've been there. No continuity or way to build long term success.

Engstrand has been several places recently, was at Fairdale for what 1 season? Can't act surprised if the admins feel like there isn't a strong commitment being made. Actions speak a lot louder than words in an interview, though they should've been aware of his history from the start.

Central has lost kids to East and vice versa because Bullitt County has open enrollment within the county. Now ask any school like that to compete with those who can recruit students from anywhere and it becomes a rather ridiculous argument.

Its funny because the original post I replied to was criticizing the quality of the Bullitt County youth league yet that doesnt seem to deter coaches from the schools I mentioned showing up to recruit kids on Saturdays and Sundays. And while those schools have their advantages the state recently recognized Bullitt County as a proficient school district, with several schools earning the distinguished honor. Considering the lower levels of college education by adults in Bullitt County in general and considering Bullitt County has significantly lower spending per pupil than any neighboring district, Id say they are doing pretty well with the cards they are dealt. We don't all have the luxury of picking who we get to educate.

I will give you the Bullitt County youth league is a mess and I can't believe it is 2014 and they don't have middle school football, but I don't get the worst performing population base comment. Bullitt East has 2 state final appearances, North has won several regional titles, Central struggled for a long time as a part of 4A/6A but the move to 5A has been good for them. Bullitt Central will struggle because the proximity of Shepherdsville to 65 there is a lot of local talent that magically ends up at T, St. X, DeSales, Holy Cross and more recently Christian Academy.

Don't know anything about the politics of LaRue County or the skeletons in the Super's closet that have been alluded to here, but if you do go out and apply for other jobs, you can't be shocked if the school decides to go in a different direction. All I have to go by is the record as a head coach, so what is some of the evidence that Jaggers is the best coach for the job and has been wronged in this case? And if the talent is low what is the reason for that? I seem to remember some very good LaRue teams in the not so distant past.
