Daviess County will represent the 3rd Region at Rupp Arena next week. They defeated Grayson County 69-56 in the Championship on Tuesday. The game was a lot closer than the final score indicated with Grayson County leading at the half. Jonathan Moss was excellent through the postseason, but especially in the Championship, scoring 29. Jaxson Brown scored 15. The Panthers head to Lexington with a 25-6 record and will face a tough test in Great Crossing. The 3rd Region is looking to break a decade long losing streak in the state tournament. Daviess County is strong 1-5 but do not go much deeper than that. Butler County challenged Great Crossing earlier in the year, but their lack of depth hurt their legs late in the game. It will be interesting to see if Daviess's lack of depth will play a factor. The Panthers shoot it as well as anyone. If they can carry that 51% field goal percentage and 38% 3 point percentage into Rupp, the Panthers will have a chance. DeAaron Watkins has taken huge steps this season. He should draw the assignment on Moreno. The Panthers are no doubt the underdog, but they have to tools to compete.

Meade County rolled over Mclean in the opener of night 2. Ayden Medley led the way with 19. Cade Scott scored 14 and Hayden Shouse had 13. Mclean ended their season 16-12. Game 2 was a great one. Grayson County was all over Catholic through 3 quarters, leading by as much as 18. The Aces found a way to battle the game back to a one possession game late, but Grayson held on at the free throw line. Jack Logsdon put together another monster game with 33. Early in the game Logsdon had a highlight reel dunk that should be all over social media today. In 3 postseason games he has scored 31, 25 and 33. Catholic ends their season at 19-11. Bieckman led the Aces with 19.

It's officially official, Coach Q Wallace has returned to Daviess County. This is a good hire for DC. Congrats to Coach Wallace on a well deserved opportunity.

Breck dominated the boards in the 65-57 win over Muhlenberg. Mercer Rogers was excellent, scoring 26 and had around double digit assists. Lance Poole played a great game as well, scoring 13. On the other side Gunnar Revelett went down swinging. He looked unstoppable at times on his way to 31. The Mustangs cut the Breck lead to 2 with around 4 minutes left but the Tigers put them away with an 8-0 run to close it. In Game 1, it was Daviess County who jumped out to an 11-2 lead and never looked back. Butler made several big pushes to make the game close but credit the Panthers for answering every single run. Daviess got big time games from its role players. Ayden Ayer, Jaxson Brown and Joe Varble combined for 36 points while Moss led the way with 20. Ty Price closed his illustrious career with 24 points. He is the All-Time leading scorer in 3rd Region history. Speaking of history, there is nothing like watching a basketball game in the jam packed Owensboro Sportscenter. Both schools brought a tremendous atmosphere.

I am cheating here but I think the winner of Butler and Daviess wins the whole deal. Its wide open for a dark horse to steal it but I just can't go against the two best players in Price and Moss.

With no key upsets in the opening round of district, the 3rd Region Tournament has the strongest field possible. Daviess County enters postseason play as the slight favorite, but Grayson County is the team to watch. They have won 6 straight, including a statement victory over Butler County in the district championship. The Cougars hold late season wins over Daviess and Breck County as well. Owensboro Catholic enters tournament play with Luke Beickman nursing a wrist injury. He was slowed by it in the district tournament, but his teammates picked him up to give him another week to heal up. Butler County will look to defend their 3rd Region crown but will need to find more consistency in the 3 games. That will not be an easy task, drawing Daviess County out of the gate. Breck and Muhlenberg enter the tournament as capable programs to be considered dark horses to win the whole tournament. Camden Baird (10) & Jaelin Groves (8.2/5) FIRST ROUND GAMES – Owensboro Sportscenter Butler County vs Daviess County – Many thought this rematch would take place in the championship game but for the second straight year, the Bears and Panthers will open the tournament. Last season it was Daviess County who came into this game as the district runner up. This season, it’s Butler County. The Bears have been searching for the right formula down the stretch, but consistency has eluded them. For Daviess County, it’s more about putting together complete games. Since Christmas, the Panthers found themselves in control of all 3 games they lost but could not put the games away. This game will feature 2 of the best players in Western Kentucky in Ty Price and Jonathan Moss. They wowed the crowd at the Sportscenter last postseason. Daviess defeated Butler back on January 14th in a game that was never very close. Butler dominated the 2nd half to advance in last seasons tournament game. This one should be an instant classic. Daviess County is looking for its first regional title since 2003 while Butler is trying to win back to back. Breck County vs Muhlenberg County – The Tigers enter the regional tournament having won 10 of 13, including a win over this Muhlenberg County team. The Mustangs have been up and down in the back half of their schedule, only winning 4 of their last 10 games. Mercer Rogers had a monster game in the first meeting, scoring 27. Coach LaGrange has one of the deepest benches in the region, and will look to use that to his advantage in the postseason. On the other side, Gunnar Revelett and Jace Sommers have led the way all season for Coach Morris. Scoring has not been an issue for Muhlenberg. This game could come down to the Mustangs effort on the boards and on the defensive end, which has been a strength for Breck County. Which team will rise to the occasion on Wednesday night? Mclean County vs Meade County – This is the only first round game in which the two teams did not meet during the regular season. Meade County has quietly won 6 of their last 7 games and 9 of their last 12. Hayden Shouse has proven to be one of the most complete players in the region, as a top scorer and rebounder. Ayden Medley broke out in the back half of the season. He scored 30 in the district title game. On the other side, Mclean rallied out of a late season slump to win 3 straight games before falling in the district title game. They are getting increased production from their role players like Jaelin Groves, Layden Bozarth and Zane Decker. Jax Lee is a deadly shooter beyond the arc, shooting it at almost 40%. It will be interesting to see if Mclean can keep the Wave off the glass as Meade is averaging around 8 rebounds more than Mclean. Owensboro Catholic vs Grayson County – Nobody in the region comes into the tournament playing better than Grayson County. The Cougars scored wins over Butler County and Daviess County down the stretch. Jack Logsdon has been tremendous all year, but a little extra tough in the district tournament. It looks like Jack is playing with a chip on his shoulder. Brody Armstrong and Spencer Langdon are perfect compliments to Logsdon. They will look to keep it going against an Owensboro Catholic team that enters the tournament banged up. Luke Beickman injured his wrist late in the season and it looked to give him some trouble in the district tournament last week. Waryn Ebelhar, Solly Smith and Dre Carothers can step up for Coach Riley, who seems to do his best work in the postseason. The Aces were probably the toughest draw Grayson could expect. Catholic beat Grayson by 26 on January 14th. While that was a long time ago, you have to wonder how Grayson County will handle the favorite role in the rematch. Coach Riley is 8-1 in the first round of the regional tournament, meaning he has only had a losing postseason record once in his 9 seasons at Owensboro Catholic.

DISTRICT TOURNAMENTS 9th District Tournament – Owensboro Sportscenter #4 Owensboro vs #1 Daviess County - Daviess County swept the season series, winning the first meeting by 4 and the 2nd meeting by 20. Everyone knows about the dynamic duos these two programs feature in Moss and Watkins vs Hughes and Acton. This game may very well come down to which role players step forward in the biggest way. Guys like Will Hume and Jaxson Brown could push one of these teams to the regional tournament. Daviess County has struggled to close out games the past few weeks. It will be interesting to see how they perform in a matchup where all the pressure and expectations are on them. PREDICTION: DAVIESS BY 7 #3Apollo vs #2 Owensboro Catholic – These two split the season series but Apollo’s win came very early in the season before Owensboro Catholic got its football players up to speed. The health of Luke Bieckman could factor in, as he has not been at 100% over the past few weeks. Coach Tim Riley is 9-0 in 9th district elimination games. Nobody does it better in pressure situations. Can the young Eagles play their biggest game of the season in the biggest game of the season? Landon Henning is the X-factor. Physically, Catholic doesn’t have much of an answer for him. If Apollo can get the inside out game working, this one could be interesting. PREDICTION: CATHOLIC BY 5 10th District Tournament – Muhlenberg County #3 Ohio County vs #2 Mclean County – Mclean swept the season series, winning game 1 by 18 and game 2 by 3. The second game performance should give Ohio County some confidence that they can steal one here. Mclean has been hit with terrible flooding and have not been able to practice for over a week now. As of right now, the game is scheduled for Wednesday but could possibly be pushed to Thursday. Jax Lee and Ryan Durham are the leaders for each team, but which role player will step forward to propel their team to the regional tournament? PREDICTION: MCLEAN BY 2 11th District Tournament – Hancock County #4 Cloverport vs #1 Breckinridge County – Breck won both regular season matchups handily and expect to advance to the district final on Friday. PREDICTION: BRECK BIG #3 Hancock County vs #2 Meade County – Meade swept the season series. They won the first meeting by 32. That margin closed to 4 a few weeks ago, in the second meeting. Coach Roberts has Hancock battling, losing several close games over the last few weeks of the season. Meanwhile, Coach Tripure and the Waves secured another winning season. Hayden Shouse is 2nd in the region in scoring and 5th in rebounding. He and Hancock big Alex Madden should be a great matchup. Which team’s guards can put on the better performance may determine the outcome of this one. PREDICTION: MEADE BY 5 12th District Tournament – Whitesville Trinity #4 Whitesville Trinity vs #1 Grayson County – While Grayson County swept the season series, the 2nd matchup was much closer than the first. Coach West will have the Raiders ready to pull the upset, but do they have the manpower to pull it off? It will be interesting to see how Grayson County plays through the pressure of being the favorite. They have been upset in the past 2 district tournaments. The difference in this Grayson team and years past is they have found ways to win even when they haven’t been at their best. That should be enough to avoid upset this season. PREDICTION: GRAYSON COUNTY BIG #3 Edmonson County vs #2 Butler County – Butler County will begin its postseason defense of the 3rd Region Championship against Edmonson on Tuesday. The Bears won both games in the regular season comfortably, but Edmonson competed into the 4th quarter of the last meeting. It will be interesting to see how the senior laden Bears react to postseason play as many are expecting the best version of this team. Edmonson had a great season in its first year under Coach Meredith but they will have a tough task to advance past Butler on Tuesday. PREDICTION: BUTLER COUNTY BIG

District Tournaments begin this week with some uncertainty on who should be considered the favorite to win the whole thing. Daviess County and Butler County finish the season at the top of the rankings, as they probably have the highest ceilings of any of the 3rd Region teams. Grayson County beat both during the regular season, and hold wins against everyone inside the top 4. Breckinridge County finished the season on a very impressive run that should have them considered amongst the contenders next week. They also have the best district matchup of any of the top teams. Daviess County will have to navigate an Owensboro team playing its best basketball of the season while Butler and Grayson will try to prevent major upsets in the 12th. Grayson has been upset the past 2 seasons but look to change that this year. Owensboro Catholic has had to face some late season adversity. They will play Apollo on Wednesday and that will not be an easy challenge. One thing is for sure, we will be saying goodbye to at least 2 teams in the top 7 before Saturday’s 3rd Region Tournament Draw. 1.Daviess County Panthers (20-6) – SAME 1-1 (L 86-84 3OT) Grayson County & (W 73-55) Christian County Daviess County has had an up and down 4 weeks, with regional losses to Owensboro Catholic, Breck County and Grayson County. While 2 of those losses came in multiple overtimes, there is some cause for concern. The Panthers head into tournament time with one of the best duos in the region with Jonathan Moss scoring 20.5 ppg and DeAaron Watkins averaging a double-double with 17.3 points and 10.5 rebounds. 2. Butler County Bears (16-13) – UP 1 1-0 (W 79-72) Allen County Scottsville Butler County has bounced back from their late January slide to finish the season, winning 5 of 6. While battling some injury and illness, the Bears still found a way to finish strong. Justin Castlen is playing his best basketball of the season and is scoring 15.5 points per game. Briar Griffin and Trever Deweese are in double figures as well. Ty Price closed the season scoring 28.2 points per game, placing him 6th overall in the state. 3. Grayson County Cougars (22-6) – UP 1 2-0 (W 86-84 3OT) Daviess County & (W 64-62) Hancock County The week the Cougars had somewhat defines their entire season. They scored an impressive, hard fought, triple overtime win over Daviess County on Monday. On Friday, they were nearly upset by Hancock County to close the regular season. While the inconsistency has been there at times, the Cougars are still finding ways to win games when they do not play their best. When they do play their best, they have proven they can beat anyone. With a 50-point win over Butler on the resume to go along with a triple overtime win over Daviess County, Grayson has proven to be a contender heading into the tournament. Jack Logsdon leads the team at 20.1 points per game while Brody Armstrong and Spencer Langdon are both over 15 per game. 4. Breckinridge County Tigers (17-7) – DOWN 2 1-1 (W 74-48) Whitesville Trinity & (L 65-64) Caverna The Tigers had won 9 of 10 before dropping a heartbreaker to Caverna to close the season. They head to tournament season with impressive resume wins in Grayson County, Butler County and Daviess County. Mercer Rogers closed the regular season at 21.2 points per game, while Jonah Miller is also in double figures at 10.6 points per game. 5. Owensboro Catholic Aces (18-9) – DOWN 3 2-0 (W 60-54) Madisonville & (W 67-52) University Heights Adversity hit the Aces late in the season with the leading scorer in Luke Bieckman going down the last couple of weeks. While he should be good to return for the district game against Apollo, the Aces rallied without their star. They scored key road wins at Meade and Madisonville without him. Coach Riley also suffered a tough loss over the past couple of weeks. We should continue to keep Coach and his family in our prayers. The Aces will look to channel that energy, as they take on Apollo in the first game of district. Coach Riley has never lost a district elimination game since he has been at Catholic. Luke Bieckman hopes to return somewhere near 100%, as he leads the team with 19.8 points per game. Waryn Ebelhar and Solly Smith each average double figures as well. 6. Owensboro Red Devils (12-14) – SAME 1-1 (W 71-59) Christian County & (L 73-56) Henderson County The Devils finished the season playing their best basketball of the year. The losses since Christmas have all come against top programs around the state. In that time, they hold wins against Breck County, Apollo and Owensboro Catholic. Owensboro has 2 of the top scorers in the region with Michael Acton and Keaton Hughes. Each are right at 20 points per game with Hughes averaging a double-double at 10.2 rebounds. 7. Apollo Eagles (16-11) - SAME 1-0 (W 66-45) Union County The Eagles closed the season, winning 4 of their last 6 games. Coach Tinsley has run his regular season record to 32-24 in the first 2 years at the helm. An impressive mark considering where the program had been. They will look to build that resume with a first-round matchup against Owensboro Catholic. The Eagles are led by balance with Kobe Kelly, Tate Powers and Landon Henning all averaging double figures. Henning closed the season averaging a double-double with 10 rebounds per game. 8. Muhlenberg County Mustangs (15-10) – SAME 0-1 (L 93-52) Bowling Green The Mustangs enter the postseason in a bit of a funk. The good news is, they have already clinched their spot in the regional tournament with the 1 seed in the 10th. They should not be counted out, as they have proven to be a program that plays its best basketball in late February, early March. Gunnar Revelett leads the team at 19.5 points per game, while Jace Sommers and Kason Morris finished the season in double figures. 9. Mclean County Cougars (15-10) – UP 1 1-0 (W 58-48) Webster County The Cougars closed their regular season on an upswing, winning their last 2 games. Jax Lee closed the season as the team’s leading scorer at 13.9 points per game while Camden Baird raised his average to 10 per game right at the end of the year. Mclean faces a major challenge as they are the only team in the region who has been unable to practice due to flooding in the county. As of now, they have pushed the district back to mid-week, and it may not be played until Thursday if the water does not go down. 10. Meade County Greenwave (15-9) – DOWN 1 1-0 (W 78-58) Campbellsville The Waves closed out another winning season for Coach Tripure and now turn their attention to Hancock County on Tuesday. The Waves will seek game by game consistency as they enter the postseason, because when this team is playing at its best, they are dangerous. Hayden Shouse closed his tremendous regular season as the 2nd leading scorer in the region with 22.7 points per game. He also pulls almost 9 boards per contest. Cade Scott, Cam House and Ayden Medley all closed the season as double figure scorers. 11. Edmonson County Wildcats (14-10) – SAME 1-0 (W 80-67) Campbellsville A winning season in Coach Meredith’s first season must be considered a big win for Edmonson County. With a new staff and large turnover in roster, they still managed 14 wins. Kolin Doyle finished as the team’s leading scorer at 13.7 points per game. While they face a tall task in Butler County in round 1, they will be playing with house money. Remember, this is a program that upset Grayson County last season. 12. Ohio County Eagles (10-20) – UP 1 1-1 (W 59-55) Hancock County & (L 59-58) Russellville Ohio County was a hair away from finishing the season with 2 straight wins as they came up a little short against Russellville. If the Eagles can find a way to upset Mclean, you can call this rebuilding season a success. Junior Ryan Durham closed the season as a top 10 scorer in the region at 17.7 points per game. Tate Abney also finished the season as a double figure scorer. 13. Hancock County Hornets (11-16) – DOWN 1 0-3 (L 59-55) Ohio County, (L 94-79) Lanesville, IN & (L 64-62) Grayson County Hancock continued to battle good teams to close losses to close the season. Over the past few weeks they have hard fought losses to Apollo, Breck, Meade and now Grayson County. Coach Roberts has one of the best rebounders in the region in Alex Madden, at 8.2 boards per game. Madden and Keegan Wilson each averaged double figures scoring in the regular season. 14. Whitesville Trinity Raiders (7-21) – SAME 0-1 (L 74-48) Breck County The Raiders had a tough back half of the season, but will look for an upset in district over Grayson County, who they played to within 7 a few weeks ago. Connor Hatfield led the team in scoring at 11.5 points per game. 15. Cloverport Aces (0-16) - SAME 0-1 (L 79-14) Francis Parker The Aces will face Breck County in the 11th district tournament. They were led in scoring this season by Freshman Hunter Bradley at 7.4 points per game.

If the forecast holds early this week, we may not see many more regular season games in the 3rd. The second round of bad news for the region would be the Sweet 16 draw which pits them against the 11th region. The region has not won a game at Rupp since Owensboro cut down the nets in 2015. If that streak is going to end this year, it will come in the form of an upset. 1.Daviess County Panthers (19-5) – SAME 2-0 (W 65-42) Ohio County & (W 60-43) Owensboro Catholic The Panthers are back on track with 2 regional wins this week, including clinching the #1 seed in the 9th district with a win over Owensboro Catholic. Jonathan Moss scored 26 in the big win. If the RPI holds through Tuesday, DC is set to face off with Owensboro in next weeks 9th District Tournament. They are scheduled to finish the season at Grayson on Tuesday before traveling to Madisonville on Thursday. 2. Breckinridge County Tigers (16-6) – UP 1 1-0 (W 80-71) Hancock County The Tigers have all but locked up the 1 seed in the 11th district by defeating Hancock County this week. They have won 9 of their last 10 and will be the overwhelming favorite over Cloverport in the 11th district tournament. No one is playing better than Mercer Rogers as he has upped his season average to 21.5 points per game. The Tigers are set to finish the season with games against Whitesville Trinity, Owensboro Catholic and Edmonson County. 3. Butler County Bears (15-13) – UP 1 2-1 (W 85-69) Madisonville, (W 88-68) Edmonson County & (L 82-75) Lou Butler Ty Price became the all-time 3rd Region scoring leader with his 31 point performance in the Bears win over Edmonson on Thursday. Price upped his point total to 3,161 taking down Central City’s Corky Withrow’s mark of 3,136 points. The Bears seem to be back on track as they had won 4 straight before falling to Butler on Saturday. Justin Castlen surpassed 1,000 points for his career last week and is playing his best basketball of the season. The Bears have one last game scheduled, as they host Mclean on Tuesday. 4. Grayson County Cougars (20-6) – UP 1 2-0 (W 67-65) Greenwood & (W 59-53) South Warren Grayson County got 2 nice 4th region wins this week and it looks like they will secure the #1 seed in the 12th district. Senior Zak Bratcher knocked down 8 3 pointers in route to 26 points to lead Grayson past Greenwood. They finished strong to secure the win over South Warren. Grayson has won 9 of their last 11 and are scheduled to finish the season with games against Daviess County and Hancock County. 5. Owensboro Catholic Aces (16-9) – DOWN 3 1-1 (L 60-43) Daviess County & (W 52-51) Meade County The Aces have started to slide a little over the last few weeks, losing 3 of their last 5 games. They were able to avoid a 3 game losing streak, pulling off a late win on the road at Meade County on Saturday. They are set to close the season with Madisonville on Monday, at Breck on Wednesday before hosting UHA to close the regular season on Friday. 6. Owensboro Red Devils (11-13) – SAME 1-1 (W 79-53) Ohio County & (L 78-63) Evansville Harrison, IN The Devils maintain their spot in the top 6 this week despite their overall record being a little worse than teams behind them. Owensboro has played a tough schedule with their last 6 losses coming against stout competition. They are beating the teams they are supposed to and are a threat to challenge Daviess County, if that ends up being the district matchup. Keaton Hughes is a top 5 scorer and rebounder in the region while Sophomore Michael Acton is also a top 10 scorer. The Devils finish the regular season with games against Christian County on Monday and Henderson on Friday. 7. Apollo Eagles (15-11) - SAME 1-1 (W 66-54) Hancock County & (L 77-55) Bowling Green The Eagles got another region win against Hancock to open the week. Tate Powers led the way with 22 points while Landon Henning logged another double double with 15 points and 13 boards. As of now, the Eagles RPI has the Eagles facing Owensboro Catholic in the first round of district. They are scheduled to face Dawson Springs and Union County this week. 8. Muhlenberg County Mustangs (15-9) – SAME 1-0 (W 73-54) Whitesville Trinity The Mustangs ended their 2 game slide with a win over Whitesville on Saturday. Gunnar Revelett scored 23 to lead the way. The Mustangs have already punched their ticket to the 3rd Region Tournament with a bye in district but they will close their regular season with away games at Logan County & Bowling Green. 9. Meade County Greenwave (14-9) – SAME 1-1 (W 68-62) John Hardin & (L 52-51) Owensboro Catholic The Waves ran their win streak to 3 games with an opening week win over John Hardin. Hayden Shouse led the way with 26 points while Carter Pike scored 16. They dropped a heartbreaker to Owensboro Catholic on Saturday. Meade closes their season against North Bullitt and Campbellsville this week. 10. Mclean County Cougars (14-10) – SAME 1-0 (W 70-61) Dawson Springs The Cougars ended their 4 game losing streak by avenging an early season loss to Dawson Springs. They are scheduled to finish the season with games against Webster, Butler County and Whitesville Trinity this week. 11. Edmonson County Wildcats (13-10) – SAME 1-2 (W 72-47) Hart County, (L 88-68) Butler County & (L 58-56) Borden, IN The Wildcats defeated Hart to open the week. Ben Sanders led the way with 15. As of now, RPI matches up Edmonson against Butler County in the 12th district tournament next week. Before then, they have games scheduled at Campbellsville on Tuesday and Breck on Thursday. 12. Hancock County Hornets (11-13) – UP 1 0-2 (L 66-54) Apollo & (L 80-71) Breck County Even in defeat the past few weeks, you can see the improvement in this Hancock County team. They competed well in losses to Meade, Apollo and Breck County. They are scheduled to rematch with Meade County in next weeks 11th district tournament. They will travel to Ohio County on Monday before closing the season with Lanesville, IN and Grayson County on Thursday and Friday. 13. Ohio County Eagles (9-19) – DOWN 1 0-3 (L 41-33) South Spencer, IN, (L 65-42) Daviess County & (L 79-53) Owensboro The Eagles have been hit by the injury bug late in the season which has effected the growth of this young team. Ryan Durham continues to be a fringe top 10 scorer in the region at 17.3 points per game. They are scheduled to face Hancock and Russellville to close the regular season. 14. Whitesville Trinity Raiders (7-20) – SAME 0-1 (L 73-54) Muhlenberg County The Raiders have now dropped 9 straight games. They will look to end that streak with road games at Breck County and Mclean County this week. RPI has them facing off against Grayson County next week in the 12th district tournament. 15. Cloverport Aces (0-15) - SAME 0-2 (L 47-21) Cannelton, IN & (L 86-6) Louisville Collegiate The Aces close their season with North Hardin Classical and Francis Parker this week. They are set to face Breck County in the 11th district tournament next week.

Things got tighter in the 3rd Region this week. Everyone is beating up on each other, and teams like Grayson County and Breck County have proven they can beat anyone on a given night. Owensboro Catholic slipped up against rival Owensboro while Daviess County fell on the road at Breck Saturday. Butler County snapped their 3 game skid with perhaps the region’s most impressive win of the season against Warren Central. They followed that up by avenging their loss to Grayson County on Saturday. With only 2 weeks left in the regular season, things may be a bit more wide open than most anticipated. Instead of weighing head to head wins, this week the teams are ranked on the eye ball test and overall resume. 1.Daviess County Panthers (17-5) – UP 1 2-1 (W 92-52) Greenwood, (W 72-38) Apollo & (L 70-61) Breck County Daviess was rolling along with 3 straight double digit wins to follow their loss to Catholic last week but were unable to maintain that momentum with a regional road loss at Breck County on Saturday. DeAaron Watkins posted a double double to lead the Panthers against district rival Apollo. On Tuesday, they hit 15 3’s to blowout Greenwood. Watkins and Moss each scored 19 in that win. The Panthers host Ohio County on Tuesday before playing Owensboro Catholic for the district 1 seed on Friday. They close the week with a home game against Logan County. 2. Owensboro Catholic Aces (15-8) – DOWN 1 1-1 (W 82-70) Muhlenberg County & (L 60-45) Owensboro The Aces opened the week with a huge 2nd half effort to take down Muhlenberg County. Luke Beickman led the way with 25 in the win. On Friday, the Aces fell to Owensboro. Catholic will still have a shot at the 1 seed in district however, as they will go for a season sweep of Daviess County on Friday. They travel to red hot Breck County on Tuesday and Meade County on Saturday. 3. Breckinridge County Tigers (15-6) – UP 1 2-1 (L 67-63) Apollo, (W 66-58) Muhlenberg County & (W 70-61) Daviess County The Tigers had their 5 game win streak snaped at Apollo on Friday but bounced back in a big way with wins on Friday and Saturday over Muhlenberg and Daviess County. Mercer Rogers is emerging as a first team player, scoring over 20 in the 2 wins. Rogers is maintaining a 21 points per game average on the season. The Tigers look to keep it going against Owensboro Catholic on Tuesday. They host Hancock on Friday before traveling to Butler County to face Heritage Chrisitan on Saturday. 4. Butler County Bears (13-12) – UP 1 2-0 (W 60-47) Warren Central & (W 78-62) Grayson County The Bears have officially stopped their slide, as they broke a 3 game losing streak to defeat Warren Central on Tuesday. On Saturday, they avenged a 50 point loss to Grayson County with a 16 point win of their own. Ty Price led the way in each game, going over 20 in each. Butler will look to build on that momentum at Madisonville on Monday, before hosting Edmonson County in district play on Friday. They close the week with a home game against Lou Butler. 5. Grayson County Cougars (18-6) – DOWN 2 2-1 (W 68-51) Meade County, (W 53-46) Whitesville Trinity & (L 78-62) Butler County Grayson County had won 7 of 8 until falling at Butler County on Saturday. They were without Spencer Langdon in the loss. Earlier in the week, Jack Logsdon scored 23 to lead Grayson past Meade County. The Cougars are still in good shape to win the 1 seed in the 12th district based on the RPI gap between them and Butler County. They have a pair of home games this week against Greenwood and South Warren. 6. Owensboro Red Devils (10-12) – UP 41 1-2 (L 96-54) Bowling Green, (W 60-45) Owensboro Catholic & (L 90-80) Lyon County It was an up and down week for the Devils as they sandwiched a win over district rival Owensboro Catholic between a loss to Bowling Green and Lyon County. Acton, Hume and Hughes all scored in double figures in a balanced effort to defeat Catholic. The Devils travel to Ohio County on Thursday before hosting Evansville Harrison on Saturday. 7. Apollo Eagles (14-10) - UP 1 1-1 (W 67-63) Breck County & (L 72-38) Daviess County The Eagles started the week with an impressive win over Breck County. It was the Tigers only loss over the last 8 games. Kobe Kelly was big with 27 points while Landon Henning logged a double double. The Eagles took one on the chin Friday against district rival Daviess County. The Eagles have shown great improvement in the region, going 6-2 against teams outside the 9th district. They will look to improve on that on Tuesday at Hancock County before hosting Bowling Green on Thursday. 8. Muhlenberg County Mustangs (14-9) – DOWN 2 0-2 (L 82-70) Owensboro Catholic & (L 66-58) Breck County The Mustangs slide continued this week, with losses to Owensboro Catholic and Breck County. They have now lost 5 of their last 7 games but will look to get back on track as they host Whitesville Trinity on Monday. 9. Meade County Greenwave (13-8) – UP 1 2-1 (L 68-51) Grayson County, (W 64-5) Cloverport & (W 64-60) Hancock County The Waves dropped a regional contest to Grayson County before bouncing back with 2 11th district wins. Meade has at least earned a tie in district but have a ways to go to catch Breck County in RPI. Hayden Shouse remains one of the the regions top scorers and top rebounders. They have road games to open the week at John Hardin and Bethlehem before hosting Owensboro Catholic on Saturday. 10. Mclean County Cougars (13-10) – DOWN 1 0-1 (L 63-57) Hopkins Central The Cougars have dropped 4 straight games, including their 2nd loss of the season to Hopkins Central on Tuesday. They are still shooting it 47% from the field but too many defensive lapses have been costly. Mclean has Dawson Springs and Allen County this week. 11. Edmonson County Wildcats (12-8) – DOWN 1 NO GAMES THIS WEEK The Wildcats are coming off a hiatus with a home game against Hart on Tuesday before 3 straight days of games against Butler County, Borden, Indiana and Knights Christian. 12. Ohio County Eagles (9-16) – SAME 2-1 (W 73-43) Whitesville Trinity, (W 62-56) Webster County & (L 64-40) St Mary The Eagles scored a pair of wins over Trinity and Webster County before falling to St Mary. Ryan Durham is still a top 10 scorer in the region at 17.2 ppg. The Eagles play a pair of 9th district opponents this week in Daviess County on Tuesday and Owensboro on Thursday. 13. Hancock County Hornets (11-11) – SAME 0-2 (L 70-50) Hopkins Central & (L 64-60) Meade County The Hornets dropped a pair of games this week but competed well against Meade on Friday. The Wave will most likely be the district tournament opponent. The performance should give Hancock confidence heading into the postseason. They host Apollo on Friday before traveling to Breck County on Friday. 14. Whitesville Trinity Raiders (7-19) – SAME 0-3 (L 73-43) Ohio County, (L 53-46) Grayson County & (L 66-51) Webster County The Raiders dropped 3 more games this week but competed well against Grayson County on Friday. The Cougars will more than likely be the 1st round district opponent for Trinity. Coach West and company will look to end their 8 game losing streak with games against Muhlenberg Monday and Herritage Christian on Tuesday. 15. Cloverport Aces (0-13) - SAME 0-2 () Meade County & (L 45-27) North Hardin Classical The Aces dropped 2 more games this week. They will look for their first victory of the season with games against Foundation Christian and Louisville Colligate.

There were several eye-opening results around the region this week. Coach Tim Riley continues to show why he is considered amongst the best Coaches in the state, as he has guided Owensboro Catholic to a 14-3 record since their 0-4 start due to football. Luke Beickman has certainly put his name in the hat for player of the year honors with his play over the past couple of weeks. Grayson County made a statement on Friday, beating district rival Butler County by 44. The Cougars are quietly sitting at 16 wins and have thrown their hat in the conversation as a regional contender. Meanwhile, Butler County has struggled as of late, having lost 3 straight games. Breckinridge County is starting to emerge as a contender as well. The Tigers have now won 5 straight, including wins over Butler County and Meade. Sitting 2 weeks from the start of tournament season, it will be interesting to see how these teams finish. 1. Owensboro Catholic Aces (14-7) – UP 2 2-1 (W 64-54) Ohio County, (W78-74 2OT) Daviess County & (L 70-62) Jeffersontown The Aces carried a lot of momentum into Daviess County on Friday and found a way to steal a victory, before giving it away at the foul line. They had the game won in regulation but could not put it away at the free throw line. In overtime however, they found a way. Down 6 points with 25 seconds remaining, Luke Beickman nailed a 3 before causing a steal on the next possession. He followed that up by attacking the rim and hitting a layup while drawing the foul. The lead was erased and Catholic controlled the 2nd overtime period to gain the win. Beickman finished with 29. Tired legs cost them on Saturday against J-Town to close their week. The Aces host Muhlenberg on Tuesday before squaring off against district rival, Owensboro on Friday. 2.Daviess County Panthers (15-4) – DOWN 1 3-1 (W 62-49) Apollo, (W 82-63) Muhlenberg County, (L 78-74 2OT) Owensboro Catholic & (W 72-40) Hopkinsville It was a busy week for the Panthers, going 3-1. They finished regulation strong against the Aces on Friday but could not finish them off in overtime. Bad turnovers really hurt them all game long. They we able bounce back with a blowout win over Hoptown on Saturday, Moss led the way with 20 points, while Watkins added 19 points and 14 boards. Earlier in the week, it was Ayden Ayer and Jaxson Brown who led the team to the win over Muhlenberg. They combined for 38 points in the win. The Panthers have a pair of home games this week against Greenwood and Apollo. 3. Grayson County Cougars (16-5) – UP 2 1-1 (L 61-57) Central Hardin & (W 103-59) Butler County What a district statement the Cougars made on Friday night against Butler County. The big 3 led the way as Jack Logsdon and Spencer Langdon had 28 points apiece. Brody Armstrong had 23. The Cougars shot a blistering 67% from the field, including 10-19 from beyond the arc. They will look to build on that momentum this week. They host Meade on Tuesday before traveling to John Hardin on Thursday. Grayson closes district play with back to back games on the road at Trinity and then Saturday at Butler County. 4. Breckinridge County Tigers (13-5) – UP 3 2-0 (W 80-76) Butler County & (W 78-48) Meade County The Fighting Tigers may be the hottest team in the region. They have won 5 straight game, including a 4 point win over Butler County on Tuesday and a blowout of district rival Meade County on Friday. Mercer Rogers led the way with 24 against Butler on Tuesday, raising his season average to 21 per game. Chase Hardesty chipped in 22, while Jonah Miller scored 15. Breck has road games with Apollo and Muhlenberg County this week. 5. Butler County Bears (11-12) – DOWN 3 1-3 (W 75-31) Hancock County, (L 80-76) Breck County, (L 103-59) Grayson County & (L 56-44) Calloway County Even with the preseason loss of Lawson Rice, not many saw this coming from the Bears. They have really struggled since coming back from the holiday and weather break. Ty Price has been in and out of the lineup, missing the Hancock and Calloway games. They will have a quick chance at revenge this week, as they get a rematch with Grayson County in the Bear Cave on Saturday. Before that they host Warren Central on Tuesday and Edmonson County on Friday. 6. Muhlenberg County Mustangs (14-7) – DOWN 2 1-1 (L 82-63) Daviess County & (W 91-54) Ohio County This week was the Mustangs season in a nutshell. They were blown out at home by Daviess County on Tuesday before bouncing back with a 37 point win to clinch the district’s top seed on Friday. With the win over Ohio County, the Mustangs have officially punched their ticket to the 3rd Region Tournament. Gunnar Revelett led the way with 21 while Madix Brannon added 15 and Issac Coats 14. The Mustangs will have a chance to better their resume this week traveling to Owensboro Catholic Tuesday before hosting Breck on Friday. 7. Owensboro Red Devils (7-10) – UP 4 2-0 (W 82-31) Whitesville Trinity & (W 64-55) Apollo The Devils are starting to heat up, as they have won 3 of their last 4 games. Keaton Hughes led the way with 27 points and 10 boards in the blowout win over Trinity Tuesday. He again led the Devils with 20 in the win over Apollo. Kade Arnold and Michael Acton were each in double figures in the win. They will need to stay hot with a tough week on the road at Bowling Green, Owensboro Catholic and Lyon County. 8. They sandwiched a couple of 10th district wins between losses in their own district. Tate Powers led them with 20 against Mclean while Landon Henning scored 14 and pulled 11 boards. Saturday, they put together a huge 4th quarter to beat Ohio County. Kayden Green led the way with 18 while pulling 10 boards. Henning posted another double double with 16 points and 12 boards. The Eagles will continue the hunt for consistency with 2 tough games this week. They host Breck on Tuesday before traveling to Daviess County on Friday. 9. Mclean County Cougars (13-9) – DOWN 3 0-2 (L 60-46) Apollo & (L 65-53) Logan County The Cougars dropped their 3rd straight game this week. Before those 3 losses, they had strung together 3 wins. Jax Lee leads the team with a 13.8 ppg average. With the Muhlenberg County win over Ohio on Friday, Mclean now knows it will face Ohio County in a district elimination game in a few weeks. They will start building to that matchup with a home game against Hopkins Central tonight before traveling to Trigg County on Friday. 10. Meade County Greenwave (10-7) – DOWN 2 1-1 (W 72-49) Nelson County & (L 78-48) Breck County The Wave opened the week with a blowout win over Nelson County. Hayden Shouse led the way with 22, while Cam House contributed 17. Cade Scott and Ayden Medley were each in double figures. They dropped a home district game to Breck on Friday causing a tie atop the 11th district standings. The Wave will have some RPI work to do to catch Breck in the tiebreaker over the next few weeks. In the meantime, they host Elizabethtown tonight before traveling to Grayson County on Tuesday. They will close the week with a pair of district games against Hancock and Cloverport. 11. Edmonson County Wildcats (12-8) – DOWN 1 1-1 (L 77-63) Logan County & (W 78-42) Whitesville Trinity The Wildcats bounced back from a tough loss at Logan County on Tuesday by blowing out Trinity in a district game on Friday. Kolin Doyle continues to lead the team in scoring at 15 points per game. The Cats host 1 loss Clinton County on Tuesday before traveling to Butler County on Friday. 12. Ohio County Eagles (7-15) – SAME 0-3 (L 64-51) Owensboro Catholic, (L 91-54) Muhlenberg County & (L 63-54) Apollo It was a tough week for the Eagles as they lost big to 2 of the better teams in the region. Saturday they led Apollo by 11 headed to the final quarter, before falling short. Ryan Durham led the way in the loss with 18. Durham leads the team with an impressive 17.2 ppg average. The Eagles have 3 games this week against Trinity, Webster County and St Mary. 13. Hancock County Hornets (11-9) – SAME 3-1 (L 75-31) Butler County, (W 69-26) Cloverport, (W 60-32) Lou Collegiate & (W 71-36) F Parker The Hornets bounced back from a tough loss to Butler County, with 3 straight wins to finish their week strong. Alex Madden and Keegan Wilson led the way with 15 and 14 respectively against Cloverport. Hancock has a pair of road games this week against Hopkins Central and Meade. 14. Whitesville Trinity Raiders (7-16) – SAME 0-3 (L 82-31) Owensboro, (L 78-42) Edmonson County & (L 71-31) Clinton County The Raiders tough second half continued with 3 losses this week. They have now lost 5 straight and 10 of 11. Coach West and company will keep battling this week with games against Ohio County, Grayson County and Webster County. 15. Cloverport Aces (0-11) - SAME 0-2 (L 69-26) Hancock County & (L 91-13) Foundation Christian The Aces are led by freshman Hunter Bradley’s 7.4 ppg. They will look to compete against Meade and North Hardin Classical this week.

Until this week, most expected the region to be a 2 team race between Daviess County and Butler County but Owensboro Catholic continues to impress with how they have played since Christmas. Tim Riley and company reeled off 11 straight wins, including Beechwood and Sayre in the All-A State Tournament this past week. They will face off against Daviess County, for the first time this season, on Friday. That should tell us a little more on where they stand. Butler County continues to mow down regional opponents not named Daviess County. No matter their record, the Bears will factor into the regional tournament before it is all said and done. Grayson County has an opportunity to show where they are at as they host the Bears on Friday. 1.Daviess County Panthers (12-3) – SAME 2-0 (W 77-69) Meade County & (W 77-60) Webster Co Daviess County kept it rolling this week with 2 more wins. Jonathan Moss and DeAaron Watkins led the way with 24 each in the win over Meade. Watkins put up 26 and 10 against Webster while Moss poured in 23. Watkins and Moss are proving to be the best duo in the region. This is a huge week for the Panthers as they make up a district game at Apollo tonight before traveling to Muhlenberg on Tuesday. Friday they host red hot Owensboro Catholic before closing the week against Hopkinsville at the Sportscenter. While they will be favored in all 4 games, they will be challenged by 2 top 5 teams and a district rival in Apollo. 2. Butler County Bears (10-9) - SAME 3-0 (W 91-67) Muhlenberg County, (W 85-53) Whitesville Trinity & (W 78-58) Mclean County The Bears have proven to be dominate against 3rd Region opponents, winning 3 straight this week. They have averaged a 25 point win margin in the 7 3rd Region wins this season. Ty Price had 47 in the win over Muhlenberg, and 21 against Trinity. Justin Castlen led the way against Mclean, scoring 26, while Briar Griffin added 19. Price is sitting at #3 in the state in scoring and became just the 26th player in KHSAA history to eclipse 3000 points for his career. Butler hosts Hancock tonight before traveling to Breck County on Tuesday. They have a 12th district showdown at Grayson on Friday and close the week at the Sportscenter against Calloway County. 3. Owensboro Catholic Aces (12-6) – SAME 3-1 (W 85-72) Owensboro, (W 62-53) Beechwood, (W 56-50) Sayre & (L 58-54) Lyon County The Aces saw their 11 game win streak snapped in the semifinals of the All-A Classic on Saturday. They scored impressive wins over Beechwood and Sayre to put themselves into the semifinals. Solly Smith led the Aces to a big second half and win against Sayre, scoring 18. Luke Beickman scored 22 to lead them in the tourney opening win against Beechwood, while Waryn Ebelhar chipped in with 18. They opened the week with a 9th district win over Owensboro. Beickman scored 37 in that one. The Eastern Illinois commit is sitting at 19.5 ppg on the season. The Aces host Ohio County tomorrow before heading to Daviess County for a big 9th district showdown Friday. They close the week against JTown at Warren Central on Saturday. 4. Muhlenberg County Mustangs (13-6) - SAME 1-1 (L 91-67) Butler County & (W 80-65) Madisonville The Mustangs up and down season continued this week with a big loss followed by a nice 15 point win over Madisonville. Gunnar Revelett scored 26 in the win over the Maroons while Maddix Brannon logged a double double with 10 points and 11 boards. Muhlenberg has a big week coming up. They host Daviess County on Tuesday before traveling to Ohio County with a shot to clinch the top seed in the 10th district. A win would put the Mustangs back in the 3rd Region Tournament. 5. Grayson County Cougars (15-4) – SAME 2-0 (W 64-59 OT) Apollo & (W 62-55) Edmonson County It wasn’t athletically pleasing but the Cougars scored 2 wins this week to run their win streak to 4 games. Tuesday, they struggled with Apollo before finishing strong in overtime. Jack Logsdon led the way with 21. They overcame another slow start to beat district rival Edmonson on Friday. Logsdon again led the way with 27 while Spencer Langdon scored 22. The Cougars travel to Central Hardin tonight before hosting Butler County Friday in a huge 12th district showdown. 6. Mclean County Cougars (13-7) – SAME 1-1 (W 58-53) Ohio County & (L 78-58) Butler County The Cougars kept themselves in the mix for the 1 seed in district with a win over Ohio County on Friday night. Mclean would need Ohio County to upset Muhlenberg this week to have a shot at it. Saturday they played Butler County tough for 3 quarters but fell short against Butler County. They travel to Apollo on Tuesday and have a game in the Sportscenter on Saturday. 7. Breckinridge County Tigers (11-5) – UP 3 3-0 (W 75-52) Bardstown, (W 61-57 OT) Bethlehem & (W 71-12) Cloverport The Tigers bounced back from an 0-2 week last week with some impressive wins over Bardstown and Bethlehem. Mercer Rogers scored 35 in the win over Bardstown and followed that up with 26 more against Bethlehem. Rogers has upped his season average to 20.8 ppg. The Tigers will be tested this week as they host Butler County Tuesday before traveling to Meade on Friday. 8. Apollo Eagles (11-7) - SAME 1-1 (L 64-59 OT) Grayson County & (W 85-50) John Hardin The Eagles dropped a heartbreaker to Grayson County on Tuesday. The Eagles looked to be in control of the game late in the 4th, but quick shots and turnovers cost them in regulation. They bounced back with a big win over John Hardin. Landon Henning scored 27 points and pulled 18 boards in the win. Kobe Kelly added 22. For Apollo to get to where they want to be, Henning will be the key. His length gives Apollo a stopper at the rim but they need him to be a force on the offensive end as well. They host Daviess County tonight and Mclean County tomorrow before traveling to Owensboro on Friday. The Eagles close the week hosting Ohio County on Saturday. 9. Hayden Shouse led the way with 23 while Cam House and Ayden Medley each scored 20. Shouse, Medley and House combined for 68 in the loss to LCA. Shouse continues to be the breakout player of the region, upping his scoring average to 22 ppg. He is also pulling 9.1 boards per game. Meade opens the week at Nelson County before hosting Breck in an 11th district rivalry game on Friday. 10. Edmonson County Wildcats (11-7) – UP 1 2-1 (W 57-40) Whitesville Trinity, (W 59-42) Todd Central & (L 62-55) Grayson County The Wildcats may be the surprise team of the region. After turning over their entire roster and coaching staff, they have won 11 games. They have shown signs of obvious improvement in their 2 games against Grayson County. They lost by 32 the first time but cut that to 7 in the second meeting. In the win over Todd, Blayne Deweese led the way with 19 while Owen Ruth had 16. Against Trinity, Kolin Doyle led the team with 16 points while Braxtin Lindsey scored 11 and pulled an impressive 17 boards. The Cats travel to Logan County tonight before hosting Trinity in a 12th district battle on Friday. 11. Owensboro Red Devils (7-10) – DOWN 2 1-2 (L 85-72) Owensboro Catholic, (W 86-36) Hancock County & (L 80-78) Evansville Bosse, IN The Devils uncharacteristic season continued this week with 2 tough losses to rivals Owensboro Catholic and Bosse. Keaton Hughes had a monster game in the loss to Catholic. He scored 32 and pulled 12 boards. Michael Acton led the way in the other 2, putting up 24 against Hancock and 26 in the loss to Bosse. Will Hume is also coming on strong. He averaged 20 in the 3 games this past week. The Devils look to get back on track tonight at Whitesville Trinity. They host Apollo on Friday. 12. Ohio County Eagles (7-12) – SAME 1-2 (L 60-47) Logan County, (L 58-53) Mclean County & (W 57-55 2OT) Webster County The Eagles had lost 5 of 6 before finding a way against Webster County on Saturday. Ryan Durham led the way with 20 while Alex Quisenberry had a double double. He scored 12 and pulled 10 boards. Ohio has a tough week at Owensboro Catholic before hosting Muhlenberg on Friday. They close the week at Apollo Saturday. 13. Hancock County Hornets (8-8) – SAME 0-2 (L 86-36) Owensboro & (L 82-50) Meade County The Hornets had a rough week, losing both games big. It will not get any easier tonight as they travel to Butler County. They have 3 very winnable games to close the week against Cloverport, Louisville Collegiate and Francis Parker. 14. Whitesville Trinity Raiders (7-13) – SAME 1-3 (L 57-40) Edmonson County, (W 78-19) Cloverport, (L 85-53) Butler County & (L 81-69) Union Co The Raiders have lost 7 of 8 after they had battled their record to even heading into the new year. They used a balanced effort to beat Cloverport. Bransen and Easton Howard led the way with 9 each. Trinity travels to Owensboro tonight before Edmonson on Friday. They close the week against Clinton County at the Sportscenter on Saturday. 15. Cloverport Aces (0-9) - SAME 0-3 (L 78-19) Whitesville Trinity, (L 71-12) Breck County & (L 59-19) Francis Parker The Aces host Hancock County and Cannelton, IN this week. Hunter Bradley leads the team in scoring at 6.8 ppg.

Well, as of this morning things have changed and it sounds like they will be interviewing some internal candidates before making a final decision next week. Originally, candidates were told they would know today but that will not be the case. Speculate on that what you will, but there will be no information today. Enjoy the weekend folks!

Daviess County emerged from the pack this past week with a statement win against Butler County. They followed that up with a 20 point win against Owensboro. The Panthers seem to be settling into their rotations very well. They are not scheduled to play a set against Owensboro Catholic until January 31st and again on February 14th. While Butler has struggled against top competition, you can expect the Bears to still contend for the 3rd Region title. They looked a step slower than Daviess on Tuesday, but come regional tournament time, don’t expect a January win to mean too much. Owensboro Catholic has put themselves in the top team conversation as of late with 8 straight wins. Chalk this up to Tim Riley doing Tim Riley things. The Aces jump into the All-A state tournament at the Sportscenter on Thursday. 1.Daviess County Panthers (10-3) – SAME 2-0 (W 84-77) Butler Co & (W 60-40) Owensboro Daviess County made a statement this past week, handling Butler County on Tuesday and district rival Owensboro on Friday. Jonathan Moss was electric on the offensive end and defensive end against Butler. He scored 35. DeAaron Watkins had 21 and 10 in the win. The role players all filled their roles well, as the Panthers avenged last years regional tournament loss to the Bears. Watkins posted another double double in the win over Owensboro. He scored 22 and pulled 11 boards. Moss added 19 while Jaxson Brown had 14. The Panthers travel to Meade and Webster County this week. 2. Butler County Bears (7-9) - SAME 1-2 (L 84-77) Daviess Co, (W 94-63) Edmonson Co & (L 72-60) Battle Ground, TN The Bears continued to struggle against good competition this week, losing tough games to Daviess County and Battle Ground, TN. They failed to match the energy of Daviess County on Tuesday and saw their late charge fall short. Butler did pick up a district win over Edmonson County on Friday. Ty Price led the way with 38 points in the win. Trever Deweese posted a double double with 14 points and 12 boards. Justin Castlen scored 21 and Briar Griffin added 18. The Bears had a 3rd Region Showdown with Muhlenberg on Tuesday before traveling to Whitesville Trinity. 3. Owensboro Catholic Aces (9-5) – UP 2 2-0 (W 69-43) Grayson County & (W 63-44) Apollo Tim Riley has the Owensboro Catholic Aces rolling after the slow start. They extended their winning streak to 8 and have won 9 of 10. Tuesday, they blew out a good Grayson County team before avenging an early season loss to Apollo on Friday. In the win over Grayson, the Aces went 14 of 23 from beyond the arc. Waryn Elbelhar led the way with 18 while Beickman had 17 and Carothers had 16. The Aces look to stay hot tonight with a rescheduled matchup against Owensboro. The open All-A Tournament has moved to the Sportscenter this season, meaning the Aces get to stay home to play Beechwood this Thursday. 4. Muhlenberg County Mustangs (12-5) - DOWN 1 1-1 (W 59-46) Mclean County & (L 66-54) Henderson County The Mustangs avenged and early season loss to Mclean on Tuesday. With the tiebreaker being the final game between the two teams tied, Muhlenberg is now in the drivers seat in the 10th. They just need to win a 1/31 game at Ohio County to clinch a bye into the regional tournament. Jace Sommers led the way with 23. The Mustangs could not overcome Henderson on Friday, losing 66-54. They have a 3rd region showdown at Butler County on Tuesday before traveling to Madisonville on Friday. 5. Grayson County Cougars (11-3) – DOWN 1 2-1 (L 69-43) Owensboro Catholic, (W 94-41) Whitesville Trinity & (W 73-55) Breck County The Cougars opened the week with a disappointing showing against Owensboro Catholic. They shot poorly in the Sportscenter at 31% for the game and only 20% from beyond the arc. They bounced back with a strong weekend. Jack Logsdon scored 26 against Trinity while his teammate Spencer Langdon posted a triple double with 14 points, 11 boards and 10 assists. Brody Armstrong added 18. Saturday, they avenged an early season loss to Breck County, winning 73-55. Langdon posted 20 points and 10 boards, while Logsdon added 15. Grayson has a pair of 3rd Region road games this week at Apollo and at Edmonson. 6. Mclean County Cougars (12-6) – SAME 2-1 (L 59-46) Muhlenberg County, (W 61-22) North Hardin Classical & (W 72-55) Union Co Mclean County had and down and up week, opening with a tough district loss to Muhlenberg County. They led at the half but could not hold off the Mustangs. Camden Baird led the way with 19 in the loss. They bounced back with a road win at North Hardin Classical before returning home with a nice win against Union County. They host a lone district game against Ohio County on Friday. 7. Meade County Greenwave (8-4) – UP 2 2-1 (W 82-53) Whitesville Trinity, (L 77-76) Central Hardin & (W 68-62) Ohio County The Waves scored 2 3rd Region wins this week and fell just short against a good Central Hardin team on Thursday. Hayden Shouse had 33 points and 14 boards in the win over Trinity. Shouse stayed hot with 21 against Central Hardin. Ayden Medley also scored 21 in defeat. The duo continued their nice weeks in the win over Ohio County on Friday. Medley scored 20 while Shouse posted another double double with 19 and 10. The Waves will be tested this week as they host Daviess County on Tuesday and Lexington Christian on Thursday before traveling to Hancock for district action on Friday. 8. Apollo Eagles (10-6) - SAME 1-1 (W 57-49) Russellville & (L 63-44) Owensboro Catholic The Eagles opened the week with a win over Russellville. Kobe Kelly led the way with 18 while Tate Powers scored 14. They could not hold the momentum as they fell to the red hot Owensboro Catholic Aces for their first 9th district loss on Friday. Apollo hosts Grayson County in a 3rd Region showdown on Tuesday before traveling to John Hardin on Thursday. 9. Owensboro Red Devils (6-8) – UP 1 1-1 (W 81-79) Breck County & (L 60-40) Daviess County Owensboro ran its win streak to 4 games with a win at Breck County on Tuesday. They could not keep the momentum alive against Daviess County on Friday, falling short 60-40. With the 2 scores not being reported, the season stats show Keaton Hughes right at a double double with 22.5 points and 9.8 boards. Sophomore Michael Acton is at 21.6 ppg. 10. Breckinridge County Tigers (8-3) – DOWN 3 0-2 (L 81-79) Owensboro & (L 73-55) Grayson County It was a tough week for the Tigers, going 0-2. They have lost 3 of 4. Mercer Rogers dropped 23 on Owensboro but it was not enough. Rogers has upped his season average to right at 19 points per game. Breck hosts Bardstown on Tuesday before traveling to Bethlehem on Thursday. They close the week at home against Cloverport. 11. Edmonson County Wildcats (9-6) – SAME 1-1 (W 75-66) Metcalfe County & (L 94-63) Butler County Edmonson is already exceeding the win total that many predicted for them. Braden Wright led the way with 25 in the win over Metcalfe. Deweese and Doyle both scored in double figures in the win. They make up their 12th district game at Trinity on Monday before travelling to Todd Central on Tuesday. They return home to close the week against Grayson County on Friday. 12. Ohio County Eagles (6-10) – SAME 1-1 (W 79-43) Knights Christian & (L 68-62) Meade County Ohio County got nice games from Ryan Durham and Alex Quisenberry to open the week with a win over Knights Christian. Durham had 22 and Quisenberry had 20. Durham is at 16.3 ppg on the season. They dropped a hard fought battle at Meade on Friday. The Eagles host Logan County on Tuesday before hitting the road Friday and Saturday at Mclean and Webster. 13. Hancock County Hornets (8-6) – UP 1 2-1 (L 43-40) Tell City, IN, (W 53-45) Portland Christian & (W 60-55) Whitefield Academy The Hornets continue to win games they should, going 2-1 this past week. Keegan Wilson has really emerged for Coach Roberts, scoring 13.3 ppg. Hancock travels to Owensboro on Tuesday before hosting Meade in an 11th district showdown on Friday. 14. Whitesville Trinity Raiders (6-10) – DOWN 1 0-3 (L 82-53) Meade County, (L 95-41) Grayson County & (L 60-49) Hart County The Raiders have had a tough stretch of 4 straight losses and 5 of their last 6. Will Hernandez leads the team in scoring at 12.6 ppg. They make up a 12th district game against Edmonson on Monday. They have Cloverport, Butler and Union also scheduled at home this week. 15. Cloverport Aces (0-6) - SAME 0-1 (L 40-28) Cannelton, IN The Aces look for their first win this week with games against Whitesville Trinity, Breck County and Francis Parker.

I'd keep an eye on things heating up at OHS this week. Now that things have thawed out and school is back in session, interviews will be coming soon. Demarcus Ganaway is the name I am hearing that is gaining some steam. I think Brian Rector is firmly in the mix as well. Should be a fun couple of weeks.

Mother Nature got the best of the 3rd Region schedule this week. Outside a few games in the All-A Regional and a 10th district battle between Ohio and Muhlenberg, the rest of the schedule was lost. Things look all clear to open this week however, and that should mean that we'll get a regional showdown with Butler traveling to Daviess County on Tuesday. The winner of that game will assume the regional favorite role for the rest of the season. Muhlenberg County, Grayson County and Owensboro Catholic are right there in the next tier of teams and they have have tough schedules this week. Grayson faces Owensboro Catholic on Tuesday. Gunnar Revelett led the way with 23 while Gavin Groves and Issac Coats each added 11. Muhlenberg hosts Mclean County Tuesday before Henderson County on Friday. 4. Grayson County Cougars (11-3) – DOWN 1 NO GAMES THIS WEEK The Cougars have a road game at Owensboro Catholic on Tuesday before hosting Trinity on Friday and Breck County on Saturday. 5. Owensboro Catholic Aces (7-5) – SAME 2-0 (W 91-60) Whitesville Trinity & (W 76-49) Hancock County The Aces were able to work through the weather to get in the All-A tournament games, capturing another 3rd Region All-A title. Against Trinity, Solly Smith led the way with 20, while the Aces put 5 players in double figures. Beickman, Carothers, Randolph and Ebelhar all reached double figures scoring. In the win over Hancock on Sunday, Waryn Ebelhar led the way with 24. The Aces host Madisonville tonight and Grayson Tuesday before traveling to Apollo on Friday. 6. Mclean County Cougars (10-5) – SAME NO GAMES Mclean travels to Muhlenberg County on Tuesday. With a win, the Cougars all but wrap up the 1 seed in district, giving them a bye into the regional tournament. They travel to North Hardin Classical on Friday before hosting Union on Saturday. 7. Breckinridge County Tigers (8-3) – DOWN 2 NO GAMES THIS WEEK Breck hosts Owensboro on Tuesday before traveling to Grayson County on Saturday. 8. Hancock County Hornets (6-5) - SAME 0-1 (L 76-49) Owensboro Catholic The Hornets fell to Owensboro Catholic in the All-A Championship Sunday. Keegan Wilson led the Hornets with 20 points in the loss. Hancock travels to Tell City, IN on Tuesday before turning home for games against Portland Christian and Whitefield Academy this weekend. 15.Cloverport Aces (0-5) SAME NO GAMES THIS WEEK The Aces travel to Cannelton Indiana on Tuesday.

Why in the world did Caverna move on from Steve Barker? He went 17-11, won the All-A Region last year and seemed to be building something decent with the program. They have had some injuries but have clearly taken a step back this year so far.
