  1. I'm curious. Anyone have a way of researching how many cards have been issued in state games in the past few years? I have been to 1 final four, and a handful of round of 8 and 16 not on neutral sites. I don't remember a game that didn't have cards issued to both sides.
  2. UKfan12, From FIFA: "A goal is scored when the whole of the ball passes over the goal line, between the goalposts and under the crossbar..." There is a good illustration on the bottom of page 30 of the document (p. 32 in in Acrobat): http://www.fifa.com/mm/document/affederation/federation/81/42/36/lawsofthegameen.pdf Giving the AR's whistles sounds like basketball. Ditching offsides sounds like indoor soccer, or basketball. You have just turned the beautiful game into international rules handball, ...or basketball.
  3. So if Trinity beat CCH, and Scott beat Trinity, does that mean Scott would beat Germany? Congrats to the Scott Eagles and their return to the final 4!
  4. From Twitter @trinitysports 2-1 Trinity in the second half
  5. I don't belive anyone picked the over /under at the half being 9. Not sure anyone thought this would be the final score that matter. Buckle up for the second half. It could come down to a field goal on the final possession. ;>) Go Scott!
  6. Scott athletics twitter @shseagles last reported 4-0 Scott.
  7. When at the game, get yourself an order of fried Oreos, and you'll not care why CCH didn't/couldn't host the districts.
  8. Surprised to see this thread still has legs. I agree OTB, probably more accurately describes the situation.
  9. Calvary is on the schedule for Dixie Thursday night.
  10. Mother Nature in a mercy rule -- washes both teams off the pitch. Game cancelled due to pending inclement weather.
  11. I was told by a player on the pitch that the second infraction was for dissension of profanity, second yellow. I didn't see a majority of the first half, so I did not see the progression of calls from the beginning. But clearly in the second half it felt like every blow of the whistle not goal related was to stop the clock and book somebody. Key words, "felt like". In the end, I was left with the impression that this crew was paid by the card. And this game was not at all what I would call physical. Serious question for any of the referee types on this board, has there been any change this year in how KHSAA has asked for the games to be called? Or specifically for tighter control profanity and/or dissension? I'm sure the refs take a look at the suspension report like half of us here have by now. Do you think that from looking at the report, or certainly hearing by now of the legendary list of cards being issued around this team that it predisposes a ref to subconsciously be quicker to pull the cards? A snowball effect or self-fulfilling prophecy at this point?
  12. One of his teammates might need to ask him why. My answer would only be a guess, but my guess is that to the Scott player, it was like any number of situations we have all witnessed where 2 boys are on the ground and one is holding the other back from rejoining the play. My other guess is that Scott likes to demonstrate it's soccer prowess by not playing a full 80 minutes at even numbers. The conversation I was having in the stands after that was the individual selfishness in demonstrating your bravado/machismo versus the impact to the team. Sure, you showed the kid on the ground who's boss. Playing a man down could have turned the game around in Cooper's favor. What if, as Cooper friendlies reported, that the coach didn't pull back to regroup for a district game next week? You get to sit out 2 games, watch someone else take your field position, and have to hear about it from the AD in your own private 1 on 1 meeting. And now you're out for your two Kenton County rivals in SK and Dixie. I'm sure you would have enjoyed playing in these games. I do hope the Cooper kid is ok and ready for practice on Monday. I didn't think he was hurt on the play but I don't know. I lost track of him since I didn't catch his number.
  13. CR, I agree totally. I felt that both players could have been yellow carded. I felt the AR could have intervened since it was on the sideline pretty close to him. I felt that if the Scott player removed his foot from the hold in almost any other manor besides the aggressive manor in which he did that this would have been avoided. But I can't fault the officials for calling it like they did. If you don't want the card, don't put yourself in that avoidable situation even making it a reasonable option for the officials. And maybe add this to the unwritten rules thread, the retaliation is always caught by the officials. Full disclosure: I have no dog in this hunt, and I was NOT defending anyone's actions. I just wanted to add to the perspective of it not being so clear cut as I'm sure it looked like from where all the parents were sitting closer to the center of the field.
  14. One pertinent fact that nobody has mentioned so far on the red card was that just before "the kick", the Cooper kid (laying down on his back) had the Scott kid's left leg/foot (who was standing) wrapped up with his right arm/bend in his elbow and held against his head . From my view, the Scott kid tugged aggressively to be free of the obvious hold. So as the Scott kid freed his foot from the hold in an aggressive manor, his cleat pulled along side the Cooper kid's head as he got his foot free from the hold. For those not there, the Scott kid did not line up the Cooper kid's head like a ball on a free kick. I'm not sure what the Cooper kid thought was going to happen when you're holding someone's foot along side your head.
  15. Kudos to the Conner keeper, Ms. Jessica Fraiture. I'm sure she felt like it was 24 v 1 at times with the description of the relentless pressure ND had all game. :isurrender: Now for the officiating. From the photos on Facebook, the ball and the keepers hands appear to be shielded to the AR by the keeper's body. So it makes one think back to U8 soccer and protecting the keeper first. Secondly, I'm not sure if the AR was in any referee organization authority over the center ref. I could understand the center deferring to the AR if the center was a kid. He was young but no kid. Ref under evaluation, getting a ride home from ate AR? So with all the authority vested in me, to render a decision without being there or knowing any of the parties involved, I side with the instincts of the center ref and his original call.
  16. " So 40 goals against bad talent..." Oldtime, I just had to reply and let you know that I absolutely love your consistency in these conversations. Keep sowing the seeds for thoughtful soccer discussions.
