  1. Final. Blue Colonels vs Ryle on Saturday
  2. Final Ryle 2, Dixie 1 Both Ryle goals by Petrano. First one from a free kick from the side of the box served towards the back post. Both teams had opportunities in the last 10 minutes.
  3. Dixie pk on a hand, Sang cuts the deficit to 1 with 12 left.
  4. Ryle 2. Pk in 23rd min. By#5 Victor Petrano (sp?)
  5. Ryle 1 Dixie 0 at half 20 min left in the game.
  6. I'm sorry Mit, soccer scores have no place in this soccer thread. We're discussing insurance liabilities, public school transportation policies, and least cost routing methods here. Way to go Ellis and the entire Dixie Lady Colonels team!
  7. I would like to add something overlooked in "4 days to complete 2 games." These are STUDENT athletes. You also realize that sometime in there they still need to get studying and assignments done, right? And do you think the girls are going to leave at 5:30 on their "off day" when their boy's team is getting ready for kickoff? Not happening. I wish I had a photo to show you all of my daughter at Bob Evans tonight with her text book out to complete an assignment by midnight. Although what was really cool about it was seeing the lock screen photo on her phone of her team with the District Champions trophy! She'll cherish that memory for years. And I want to state for WhatsBestForTheGirls that I don't think I could have made a better case for the positivitity you seek than the well deserved, outpouring of support I had for the Villa keeper. I thought that both Dixie games displayed teams that played real hard, and left it all on the field.* And for that, all the teams should be applauded for their exceptional efforts. And nowhere was even a hint of a negative comment towards the participants or the officiating. That's positive. But what WhatsBestForTheGirls may not have experienced was what we did on our side of the student section, known as the visitor's section earlier in the week. Heads up for the next time. Most schools have the student section on one end of the stands or the other, not the center of the field. Because in their youthful exuberance and the excitement of the moment, they are prone to shout something unintentionally hurtful and insensitive, for example, within earshot of a worried mother who has to hear "And stay down!" as the ref calls the trainer to hurry out onto the pitch to provide aid to her daughter on lying on her back after taking a shot to the face. Those "uplifting words of encouragement" and more were enjoyed by the visitor's section. The point is that the home team crowd provides a buffer between the students and the visitors. So do school administrators. Go to any local football game and you'll see what I mean. It is extremely sad the negativity with which guests to your picturesque campus unnecessarily needed to experience. I kind of had my fill of "the Dixie girls this" and "the Dixie girls that" without exposing perhaps a glimpse of the other side of the issue. And you don't want to hear it but true the root cause of the off-field drama was... the facility (nothing to do with lights). But between the games and the way these threads are running, I have gotten way more entertainment than my price of admission. And for that I will say thank you. I'll shut the excavator down and go back to my shovel. I'm done. Over. I do appreciate the intent to remind us all that we should celebrate the athletic achievements of all the young ladies who participated in this week's eventful tournament. And we should. *Sorry Ludlow, no dis intended. We didn't see Monday's game. We had homework.
  8. Oh, by the way, both keepers stopped 2 each in the first 5 kicks. Refs allowed the first kicker to start the second group of 5 before calling it. All 12 shots were on frame.
  9. Before you even respond, I'll say I needed a Snickers bar instead of replying. I should have gone out to lunch myself. It wasn't my intent to engage in a food fight. Well except about the part on Ms. Abby and how she should seriously be carried around school for a month on everyone's shoulders.
  10. That's fine. I didn't have a copy of the Zapruda film to replay why the keeper went back, and to the left (kids look it up). Admittedly, my viewpoint was from the "visitor section" (opposite side of the field) looking through the student section crowd. I recall the ball having an upwards trajectory, as if the keeper was grabbing it with her hands raised, and the offensive player heading it at the same time "out of her hands". I didn't go on about it, no whining that we were robbed or how horrible the refs were. No such nonsense. I just mentioned it. So my viewpoint was not the best to make the call. Thank you for the clarification and setting the record straight. So we discussed my opinion, now lets discuss yours. If the Dixie player took a run at the keeper, she would have been carded and possibly thrown out. Did you know that the offense has equal opportunity to go after the ball? Ever hear all the parents yelling, sometimes coaches, for players to follow the ball? The AR I'm sure was close enough to make the call if it was warranted, along with the center. But they didn't. The result, from the judgement of the only one that mattered, the gentlemen in the yellow and black stripped shirt, the center ref, was not so. He deemed it sufficient to have a free kick in Villa's favor. That might be when the student section erupted into a chorus of "You can't do that!" That should be on tape as well. To address another concern of yours, in regards to this: Then the Villa community should be the most upset that they didn't have the means to finish the game Tuesday night. Because by your inference to Dixie winning because two injured players were available for kicks the following day, now, instead of watching Villa play St. Henry tonight for the district championship and going on to regions, it will be Dixie. I would like to end on a very positive note. You mentioned Villa's keeper, Ms. Abby Hengge, the fact she hadn't played keeper before. She did great. She did what she needed to do in the game and especially in kicks to win for her team. That was heroic on her part. For those who didn't have the privilege to be there, allow me to describe the scene. Besides the shutout the night before (90 minutes), she not only gets 1 stop in kicks (a legit save), but Ms. Hengge had the nerves of steel to be the 5th kicker for Villa. It was a great shot, low and just inside the post. Dixie keeper had zero chance at stopping that shot. At the time this was a make or break kick, to tie it up at 3 scores each (Villa kicked first). That is tremendous. She should be carried around school for a month on everyone's shoulders. Seriously, no joking. She MUST MUST MUST be Villa's player of the tournament.
  11. Well covered NKU..19. Or play these games at a field that has lights. FYI, the start time for the Girls and Boys District finals on Thursday and Friday at Villa were moved up to 5:15.
  12. Scoreless through 70 minutes. Dixie nets 2 in last 10 minutes. Sorry, no names.
  13. All 10 shots taken were on frame. Dixie's Ellis McCarthy stopped 2, and Villa's Abby Hengge stopped 1. Picture I found from late in last night's game, getting dark: https://goo.gl/21CxrX Good thing that Dixie's boys turned it up a notch and scored twice in last 10 minutes to break a zero-zero tie, or I don't think they would have played sudden victory extra time tonight. But that would be a story for the boys soccer forum.
  14. An alternative to hosting at your facility would be to borrow/rent another facility. I believe Brossart used NKU's soccer facility one year. What about Thomas More? I'm sure there are more than enough VMA grads that head over to Crestview Hills to TMC that would make using that facility affordable from one school in the Diocese of Covington to another. Cov Cath? Not sure if Notre Dame has lights. Even, dare I say then Dixie or St. Henry's facility. It just eats into the gate commission a little. Just something to consider in 4 years when district hosting comes around again.
  15. Because, as district games, they can be. There is an element of home field advantage given the nature of the grass, and I will speculate field size. It looks smaller, but I'm sure within KHSAA regulation -- no accusations being made here. That can be an optical illusion given most fields have a track around them, and and as a spectator sitting higher up in some stadium like grandstand. And light towers for perspective. OK I knew I threw the last dig in, but I feel I am authorized as a parent of a Covington Latin graduate who spent 5 years down in the green oasis, the lush pitch of the Bill Cappel Sports Complex. But when you're hosting Notre Dame in the 35th district, going to kicks is not an issue. You just hope to make to the second half kickoff.
  16. Bus is definitely one factor. I have not seen a Dixie bus for boys or girls leave prior to 4:15, and that included a Monday trip to Henry Clay. But I'm sure parents are another. Can you hear the blistering comments to an athletic director (heck, all the AD's) for scheduling a 4:30 playoff game? You cannot schedule these games before the parents of the athletes are generally available (i.e. after work). But officially per KHSAA, you cannot start a contest before 3:30 pm or after 11:00 pm. That's all they say on the timing topic. I hope the keepers were able to sleep last night. This is an unfair burden on them. Until tonight at 5:15...
  17. Beyond the lighting issue, the game itself wasn't without some controversy. Dixie had a goal called off. Ref decided that the Villa keeper had possession of the ball when a Dixie player headed a ball out of the Villa keeper's hands. If you were wearing blue tonight, of course the keeper had possession. If you were wearing red, the keeper did not. Dixie had the better of the play but did not finish. Villa was hanging on by a thread by the end, but did not snap. The second half and extra time was basically spent in the Villa half. Sorry St. Henry, you need to wait another night to see who you face in the final.
  18. No score after extra time. The game is suspended prior to kicks for... wait for it... darkness. The girls will complete kicks tomorrow at 5:15 prior to the 5:30 kickoff of the boys semi-final game.
  19. St. Henry @ Dixie tonight with tops in the 34th District on the line.
  20. I couldn't stay for the varsity game. As a Dixie booster, I have to say the Ryle JV certainly knew how to play to feet and hit the through balls. They will clearly have the reserves to reload next year for any graduating seniors.:isurrender:
  21. YC I think you're safe on this one. Historically speaking, Pendry field for BB is traditionally smaller, and pothole/divot ridden. So unless improvements were made over the summer... stone tossed.
