  1. ...like Gatsby's green light, year by year receding before us.
  2. Maybe not the dumbest... St X won States in 2012 with a 27-0-2 record and in 2007 with a 25-0-2 record.
  3. If by "in the box" you mean "in the defensive third" then that sounds plausible. If by "all game" you mean, "when HHS was defending, which was most of the game" then that sounds plausible too.
  4. Getting numbers behind the ball is just good defending. If a team doesn't push up out of the back when they win the ball and transition to attack with more than 2 or 3 players then I think its fair to say they are "parking the bus."
  5. I know Districts and Regionals come first, but for those looking ahead... Region 9 hosts Region 11 (PLD... Henry Clay?) Winner of 9/11 gets to host Region 2/4 winner (Bowling Green maybe?) ......... Region 10 hosts Region 12 Region 10/12 winner then hosts 5/7 winner (Trinity/St X?) ........ Region 7 and 11 on opposite sides of bracket.
  6. Agree 100% with all the positive for Pendleton County's Aaron Harper. Results haven't followed yet, but with no seniors on the team, next year should be all upside.
  7. Griffin Garrison (#2) is super quick and effective up top. Bentley (#3) I think also plays up top or attacking mid and is also really quick. Neither are very big, but they create great movement when they're on. Christian Stull (#19) I believe plays in the midfield and is strong and technically very good. He is able to create a lot of service for #2 and #3. Should be a great test for Ryle defense. I'd love to see Ryle win, but I think the edge goes to McNick (3-1).
  8. Maher is predictive, not determinative. A Maher #50 over a Maher #41 separated by 0.84 Maher points... is not a huge upset, but certainly a nice win. And I love seeing a NKY team beat a Lou or Lex team. Way to go CRU!
  9. Play the final on a Monday night then. It's just one game, but for the two teams in the finals it is the fourth game in a little over 24 hours.
  10. How Maher Orders NKY Top 10 for comparison (with Maher Rank and Rating): 1. Cov Cath (11) 9.59 2. Brossart (14) 9.38 3. Scott (16) 9.24 4. Cooper (25) 8.21 5. NCC (28) 7.79 6. Boone (33) 7.56 7. Ryle (34) 7.52 8. Highlands (38) 6.97 9. St Henry (50) 5.71 10. Dixie (59) 4.33 Campbell County (61) 3.75 Simon Kenton (68) 3.22 Conner (78) 2.33 Holy Cross (98) 0.48
  11. Trinity has kept a clean sheet in 8 of its 13 wins. St X blanked its opposition in each of its 7 wins, but didn't score once in its 5 losses. I think Trinity wins 1-0.
  12. Wednesday Trinity (13-2-0; Maher Rank #1) travels to St X (7-5-2; Maher Rank #5). Can St X break Trinity's perfect regular season record of 13-0 against KY competition? What would it take?
  13. I was being facetious. 11 red cards over a 2 year span is appalling. Hard to put a positive spin on it.
  14. Sounds like the Scott program is trending in the right direction... 7 red cards in 2013; 4 for 2014 so far; maybe only one or two next year. Why can't you people see the positive in all this?
  15. Conner has two Seniors on their roster. The rest are Jrs and Sophomores. CCH JV is a pretty darn good squad with ample bodies if needed. I'll go with CCH 4 Conner 1 (goal off free kick by Wend).
  16. I liked Cooper when they could attack with the Ross, O'Brien and Snow triad. Losing Ross hurts both for what he added and because Cooper has limited options off the bench. Boone/Cooper game Thursday is huge as the winner wouldn't have to face Ryle in a potentially season-ending match first game of Districts. Scott has a potential bump in the road with a first District tournament game against Campbell County. Augspurger is a tough matchup for Scott's back line based on his size and pace. Camels games against Ryle(Tuesday) and Brossart (Saturday) might shed light on just how nervous Scott should feel. If the games were played on paper we could write Cov Cath through to a matchup with the Region 11 winner. I expect CCH will be working on getting healthy and defending set pieces over the next couple of weeks. Might be the difference in getting out of the Region this year.
  17. Nice run Mustangs! I saw Collegiate earlier this season and they moved the ball well and were willing to build out of the back. Sounds like Brossart matched up well and gave them a great game. Congrats to the All-Tourney team selections and the whole Brossart team.
  18. Congratulations to Trinity... great run over the past 2 years... Last loss to a KY team... 11/9/13 (PLD in PKs in State Finals) Loss to KY team prior to that... 10/19/12 (St X in Region 7 Championship).
  19. Ah come on now... Hamilton County prosecutor Joe Deters and his brothers still do worse things (according to Deters).
  20. Biggest concern with JV Regional is the teams in the finals playing Friday night and then three games Saturday... that's just nuts. JV Regional this year has 11 teams from Region 9 and 9 teams from Region 8 and 10 combined. You could drop the third game Saturday by making it two tournaments... Region 9 and Region 8/10. Or have an upper and lower flight and mix up the Regions.
  21. ... T&C fields are 58-59 yards wide102-104 yards long... shorter than every HS field, wider than Cooper.
  22. Fields too small and boys are all jacked up because its JV Regionals... The two teams that play in the finals will play 4 games in just over 24 hours. Quality of play in finals is more reflective of which team weathers the physical beating better. Makes 4 games over a weekend tournament in Club soccer look almost reasonable. Its a formula for getting kids hurt. Other than that... its a great idea.
