The private vs. Public talk is silly. In Northern Kentucky all the schools fight over the same athletes. District Boundaries mean nothing. In Louisville and Lexington the same is true. I guess Trinity may get a kid from indiana every once in a while, but Male, Ballard and all ther other Louisville schools do the same. in Hoptown you have kids constantly moving from school to school. Just this year a state champ from Christian County, Quan Poindexter, ended up at Hoptown and is a starter at the 4 spot for them and is averaging a double double. To start the private vs. public stuff is silly. The good programs in the bigger cities with multiple schools all go after the same kids and work the rules just the same.

Good post. This hoptown team may be the favorite, but they are the prohibitive favorite. They have flaws. They have trouble at the line at times. If they aren't turning you over and dominating on the offensive boards they can have trouble scoring. If the game is called tight they can get in some foul trouble. I would disagree with your Q. Cager comment. He gets wild sometimes and can take a game that's in control and turn it into a game that's in doubt. He's an incredible athlete and definetly adds a spark, but sometimes that comes with a price.

In my opinion, that's to be expected in the 4th. What other significantly sized towns are there in the region compared to bowling green? I would expect the BG district to own the BG area region whereas I would actually expect Henderson County and their massive enrollment to dominate region 2. Nope. It's District 8 and it's multiple teams from district 8. As it was said by an ESPN commentator about a month ago when commentating a LSU game, "Hopkinsville Kentucky is one of the great basketball cities in America"

Is the AP poll not the most consistently cited? Perhaps not on here. I know Bluegrass preps has a poll. But you typically hear the "ap poll" when you hear the rankings on the radio or read them in the newspaper. Pardon me. I'll bow down to whatever poll you order me to.

TO be clear, I actually don't think Hoptown will win state. A team that can keep it close on the boards and limit their turnovers will beat them. The bigger Rupp Arena floor is a big adjustment for their press.

The computer polls? Yes, I'm sure the did. But I always assumed folks went by the AP poll.

January 11th they played park tudor. January 14th they played Henderson County. January 21st they played Graves County February 21st they played Region Runner up muhlenberg County. That doesn't include the game they added vs. Taylor County and the Owensboro game they added. It also doesn't take into consideration the Joe B. Hall TOurney that they had to miss due to the snow storm.

As of two weeks ago HOptown was #1 in the ap poll correct?

A. They beat Taylor County two weeks ago. B. They beat Elizabethtown in the middle of the season. C. They played in the King of the Bluegrass losing to a terrific Fort Myers Team. D. They lost to one of the top teams in the nation in overtime - Park Tudor. E. They played region runner up Warren Central. F. They beat region champ owensboro a couple of weeks ago. I could go on. Also consider that they had a couple of big time game snowed out. To say they aren't battle tested is pretty silly.

Hopkinsville won last night... They were #1 right?

Last night Hopkinsville won the 13th consecutive regional title for district 8 in the 2nd region. Quite a remarkable feat considering the strength of the schools along the Pennyrile Parkway. From Madisonville, to henderson along with other schools with strong basketball traditions the 8th District comprised of schools exclusively from Christian county now OWNS the second region. Between Hoptown, Christian County and UHA, each school has won multiple regional titles in the time period. 3 schools in a county wiht 90,000 people has now completly taken over the region. Considering the size of Henderson county High school this makes the feat even more remarkable. Congrats Hoptown, UHA and Christian County for quite a remarkable accomplishment. Has any other region ever seen this type of dominance from one district where 3 schools have won multiple titles in a timeframe?

I disagree. I did not see him call the foul and neither did the folks around me. Further, it was explained to the coaches what happened. it doesn't matter. The blarge rule was not enforced properly and likely cost UHA the game.

Contact occurs between A1 and B1 after the release and before airborne shooter A1 returns one foot to the floor. One official rules a blocking foul on B1 and the other official rules a charging foul on A1. The try is (a) successful, or (b) not successful. RULING: Even though airborne shooter A1 committed a charging foul, it is not a player-control foul because the two fouls result in a double personal foul. The double foul does not cause the ball to become dead on the try. In (a), the goal is scored; play is resumed at the point of interruption, which is a throw-in for Team B from anywhere along the end line. In (b), the point of interruption is a try in flight; therefore the alternating-possession procedure is used. (4-36)

This is the same crew who didn't know that if the bucket is good on a blarge call you count the basket. Same crew that reversed another questionable out of bounds call a few minutes before. Same crew that called a contreversial 5 second call and the same crew that called a charge on a play that most officials, under the new rules would either make a no call or call a block. Nothing that crew did last night surprised me. Pure incompetence, both ways. But UHA got the absolute shaft in the last two minutes and in the first overtime.

I'm ok with the "blarge" call. But A. The rule was applied incorrectly for that situation. The bucket should have counted. B. It actually wasn't called properly. As I have read in teh rule books, the blarge is only supposed to be called when there are two fouls called. Only one was called, a block. The official in the back assumed a charge was being called (that's why he called everybody together) and added a charge call. There is some discussion in hoptown today that that was even an impropper application of the rule as the rule states that two fouls must be called at the same time. Only one was actually called. All that aside. A 6 point game is a massive difference in that situation. Likely makes it a 3 posession game and forces henderson to consider fouling and/or shooting 3's. It clearly changed the game in a massive way.

He initially didn't make the call. Everybody in the gym assumed it was an and one. Only one hand was raised and one whistle blown. It was explained to me that the official from behind assumed a charge was being called. When it wasn't called a charge he came over and said "I was going to call a charge". Supposedly that's what was explained to shouse as he asked specifically why the other guy didn't make the call initially.

Sad situation. Likely should have been the 4th matchup between UHA and hoptown. Either way, District 8 continues it's absolute dominance of region 2 and wins the 13th consecutive region title tonight. They probably blast Henderson.

A. UHA did hold Henderson but they were called for fouls. Henderson scored the points from the line if I recall. B. UHA did score. BUt they were called for anotother charge on a VERY questionable call. Perhaps under the old rules there may have been a charge, but in the new rules where the man has to be set before the player starts his motion there is no way it was a charge. The one guy on here keeps asking "why didn't uha stop them". That shouldn't matter. The FACT is that UHA should have had 2 more points in regulation. Points were TAKEN OFF THE BOARD that had a MASSIVE impact on the game. Secondly, two fouls WERE NOT called right away. Only one whistle was blown and only one official called a foul. The one underneath the basket who called the block. The official who called UHA for the two fouls on the last two posessions is who huddled the refs up and added the charge call. So, it's clear some on here want to somehow run from the fact that the officials, NO QUESTIONS ASKED, took two points from UHA that shouldn't have been taken. We can discuss whether it was a well called game or not. (it wasn't) SO INCONSISTENT. But what cannot be argued is that 3 officials completly blew the APPLICATION. And yes, as a former assistant coach, I attended football and basketball officiating clinics. The "blarge" rule isn't even in the rulebook. It's in officials notes. It's something that had to be addressed by addendum. So no coach should be expected to know such a nuance.

the refs ONLY job is to understand and know the rules. Coaches are supposed to coach.

UHA did score. They got called for a charge on a bucket that EVERYBODY thought was an and 1. And yes, taking a bucket away when the rules clearly state it should have counted did effect the outcome. I realize folks don't like to blame refs, but not applying the proper ruling to a call is inexcusable. And no, the tall ref called the charge. He also reversed the out of bounds call on the previous possession.

Your last sentence is exactly what I'm taking about. The rule states that if the ball goes in on a blarge (double foul) call the bucket counts and ball is awarded underneath basket to team that was playing defense.

Should have said "did" blow the blarge call. And to say one call didn't decide it is foolish. I can deal with missing a call. But when the officials don't know how to apply the rules in a regional semi final it's inexcusable. Same ref blew all the calls. The tall one. The 5 second call was iffy at best. UHA player changed direction and moved towards basket about 2 seconds before 5 second call . Everybody in the neutral area agreed the blarge call was a block, and that the 5 second call was iffy. Everybody agreed that a no call was the right call on the made shot with 5 seconds left. UHA clearly got the short end of the stick in crunch time. 3 pivotal calls. 2 being reversed away from UHA by the same ref. you can go a month and not see a call reversed. 2 reversed in last minute!
