The Battle of Newport in 2023 brings us a Top 10 Class 1A showdown. Both teams are coming off the bye week into this matchup. Newport Central Catholic sits at 2-4 on the season, while Newport comes in with the opposite record of 4-2. The winner of this matchup will most likely lock up the districts number 1 seed. Many questions coming into this matchup. Who wins this matchup? Does Newport Central Catholic flex in this matchup? Does Newport get its first win since 1999?

Hazard lost 10 to graduation, lost there starting center to Pikeville. Mr Do everything Max Johnson is what hazard is lacking this year. Hazard only loses 4 seniors this year. Hazard has/is still moving kids into places trying things to figure it out.

Hazard played tough for a half. Back breaker was that INT before halftime. You don’t throw that and the score is still 14-0. Hazard is its own worst enemy and has been all season. The scoreboard may not show it but there is improvement there and the defense isn’t that bad, but is just on the field way too much. Offense is where they are gonna have to get to work…. I myself would go old school with the I-form and hit them with runs with the fullback occasional and mix in some play action. They need to grind the tempo of the game way down. My opinion. But Congrats to Raceland on the win and hope they had safe travels home. Got to talk to couple of there fans after the game. It was nice chatting with them. I also want to say before I go, a big Kudos an shout out to Noah Wallace who I saw playing with some young Hazard kids after the game. Very fine young man and leader there.

Hazard had some really good classes coming up. They have an excellent 7th/8th grade team this year who finished the regular season 10-0. So hazard will be young again next season but will have quite a bit of talent. Raceland needs to come out early in this game and make a statement. They need to not come out flat and let Hazard get any confidence. Hazard had their best effort last week in the beating by Corbin. Hazard just needs to hope the offense can do something. Defensively they aren’t bad, just can’t be on the field like they have been all season. But the good thing it’s getting later in the season and things should be slowing down for some of those young kids playing. Ram are u coming to the game? If any Raceland fans want to meet up and chat at the game I’m opening to talking some football.

What’s the health of Raceland at the moment?

Rams sit at the #1 team in Class 1A. Rams sit at 3-2 on the seasons with losses to Ashland and Highlands. Raceland is coming off a thrashing of Newport Central Catholic 40-14 last week. Rams will make their 3rd big time road trip this season with already having traveled to Letcher County and Pikeville. Now the Rams will head to Hazard for this weeks game. Rams will be heavily favored in this one. Hazard sits at 1-5 on the season and just haven’t been competitive in the last 3 games and having running clocks put on them. Max Pelfrey should be back for this matchup after having to sit for two weeks with an ankle injury. Hazard had some great effort last week against Corbin in a blow out loss, but it’s something that hasn’t been there since the Paris game. Hazard will hope that same energy carries over for the rest of the season. Does Raceland put the 4th running clock on Hazard this season? Does Hazard keep it respectable and maybe pull an upset?
