James Bolden gets first offer
ESPNdeux replied to Walter's topic in KY Boys Basketball (High School)
I wouldn't be as concerned with his height as I would with his weight... Not real big. Would think he'd have to put some muscle on at some point to deal with the physical play he'll see. -
Sounds like they got it right in the 9th then IMHO...

When you hold a kid with that kinda talent to 6 buckets, you are doing something right... However, I feel like they gave him too many trips to the line in the first half.... Seemed like they were content trying to slap at the ball on the drive and it put them in foul trouble. Rather than in the 2nd half where he had to work his butt off just to get a touch, and then they often ran two at him. And honestly, the best thing they did to him was get him in foul trouble and then out of the game. -
Congrats to Reineke. This is overdue IMO. Reineke and O'Hara have been heads above the rest in the 9th since Campbell left.... And some didn't even like Campbell...

It's my understanding that a Technical can just be excessive nowadays, rather than with intent. There are hard fouls, then excessive fouls, then dirty fouls. Hard fouls are common fouls, excessive fouls are T's, dirty fouls can get you tossed. Where the line between those lies in the refs judgement. I think Toblers foul on Chames was correctly called at the second level of what I just described. For the record. I think the intentional in the first half was correctly called, and frankly, was a no doubter. Not that I blame the kid. Against Bolden in one on one breakaway you really have two options, grab him, or just get out of the way... -
State Tourney: Johnson Central vs Ballard
ESPNdeux replied to gold sunrise's topic in KY Boys Basketball (High School)
I honestly think Ballard will run the bottom of the bracket with pretty much ease.... At definitely until Saturday night at least.... -

I would agree strongly with the bolded statement. It didn't effect the game, but it wasn't well officiated... Anytime people are talking about something called a "blarge" it's a pretty clear indicator that the game wasn't called well. Fair? Yes. Well? No. That "blarge" thing still is mind boggling to me... -
I think a lot of people are expecting to see Hopkinsville in Saturday night's first game...

For all the people that are talking about the trouble getting in, I got there about 25 mintues before game time and it took me about 10 minutes to get in. Not bad at all... Not saying BOKC doesn't need to do something about it, but I think it's one of those 'early bird gets the worm' things... -
James Bolden gets first offer
ESPNdeux replied to Walter's topic in KY Boys Basketball (High School)
It may be, but when it's all said and done I'm betting Bolden has bigger offers than X... No offense to X, they're a solid program, but I just think he has big things coming his way. -
State Tourney: Holmes vs Pleasure Ridge Park

Should be one of the better first round games I'd think... -
Today, at Rupp, an "Outside Shot"
ESPNdeux replied to theguru's topic in KY Boys Basketball (High School)
I liked it because it really showed how much high school basketball means in Kentucky.... How in a lot of schools, entire communities know these players, and how much pressure can be on teams because of this... The good and bad side of all of it. On the back cover, they say its the "Friday Night Lights" of basketball. I would agree with that.... -

I thought Housely did a great job on Ruthsatz too... I honestly thought he should've had him more to save bolden from fouls -

I made the comment once Englemon went out and Holmes went small how much pressure was on Chames to rebound and contest shots. He did this and had a huge tip bucket. Well done. -

Glad for Holmes. But I'll tell ya.... They were fortunate at the end. I feel like the CCH kids will hit those last two shots 8 out of ten times..... That's the way the ball bounces... -

Holmes had the ball under the cch basket up 1 61 ta 60. Threw it away. Cch got a good look from Fredrick I believe from a step inside 3. Front rim, rebound Chames. Foul, 2 missed FTs. Next trip down I believe it was Pauley got an open look from the left baseline about 12 feet. Miss. Rebound Herindon. Miss, make. Cch misses the heave at the buzzer. -
Still in the third?

Don't know if they sat him but if so they need to get him back... He and big Short are the straws that stir the drink.
-
Anyone have em?

Espn is doing this right now. 3 of the top 4 lost this week... Who should be ranked 1? I'll start... I still cant quite convince myself Gonzaga should be ranked one. I'll say: 1. Miami 2. Gonzaga 3. Indiana

9th Region Tourney Money Split
ESPNdeux replied to Clyde's topic in KY Boys Basketball (High School)
It seems to me the argument against seeding. This is a 'rich get richer' scheme. Not saying this is always the case, but it's a lot easier for these teams that get to region to have money for summer camps, travel games the following season, etc. Those things make teams better. Some teams that don't get to region maybe don't have that opportunity, so they don't get to grow their players talents like the region's team's do. And the following year the same team's go back to region. And it turns into a vicious cycle. I know some will not agree, but just one perspective... -
I agree... They're not good at all.... But everyone saying adidas made a mistake, I feel like they may be saying 'hey... You're talking about us aren't you?"... The old 'any publicity is good publicity' approach... Not saying I agree with that, but they have to have some kinda thought like that to do this two years in a row....

I understand what you're saying. I just think that even if you guard him full court the whole game and don't let him rest, then by the time the 4th quarter rolls around, you might be staring up at a 15 to 20 point defecit... Full court pressure on someone that quick and good with the ball is asking to get beat to the basket every possession.... It's hard enough for them to keep him in front of them in the half court, nevertheless giving him the whole thing! Just my opinion anyways...
