Class 4A has Trinity and St X winning State Titles and when classes were expanded to 6 Classes that continued in 6A
Class 3A had 4 teams winning titles and when the classes expanded 5A and 4A was shared by the same teams that were winning in 3A with the exemption of Cov Cath winning in 2006 and Bell Co winning in 2008. Highlands Boyle Co and Lex Cath all won multiple State Titles. When Highlands was moved from 5A to 4A then you have Bowling Green winning 5A.
Class 2A had Boyle Co win in 2000 and then they moved to 3A and continued. When they left 2A had 5 different teams win Titles. When the class went to 6 Central had dominated 3A and FT Campbell and NCC has won multiple 2A Titles
Class 1A has Danville and NCC winning multiple titles when only 4 Classes. When the classes were expanded to 6 you have Beechwood and Mayfield winning multiple titles.
Personnaly I like the 6 classes even if there is some inbalance in scoring.

The 5 years prior to going to 6 classes, 1A had 4 different champs, 2A had 4, 3A had 4 and 4A had 1.
State Champs - Since Year 2000 - 6 Years of 6 Class and 7 Years of 4 Class

That's because they are "fudging" the numbers. You are correct - They only count the boys that were born to parents that live in Ft Thomas. Everyone else are transfers and do not count. -
Hellbird doesn't want 4 classes. He knows if HHS got stuck in 4A with the likes of trinity, Scott county and X, the run would be over. Im sure the numbers would get fudged to somehow have them in 3A or even 2A lol. It's a joke that this state has 6 classes in football.
HHS school size ranking within the 222 KY teams is 110. If you split the State into two classes it would be 1 thru 111 and then 110 thru 222 leaving Trinity in Class AA and HHS in Class A. If we want Trinity with 1018 boys grades 10 thru 11 to be in the same class as HHS with 314 boys grades 10 thur 11 you have to have one class for the state - all in one - let the best team win one state title - eveyone else no championship - just like the NCAA tour.
Hold it - Teams complain about not getting into the NCAA tourn - I would expect with one tourn in KY the KHSAA would field alot of complaints also.
Just a note - HHS is expected to drop lower than 110 in the next round of alignment.

Simon Kenton - the largest school in NKY at 594 (10 thru 12) would be DII in Ohio.
D-II – 108 schools with male enrollments of 403 to 607
The only reason KY has 6 classes and Ohio 7 is to have more State Champonships
If it was not for the expense and logistics there would be more. Alot of parents and school Admin's want there kids to get a metal.
-
Not sure if this has been mentioned, but Ohio does not count freshman in enrollment numbers. Ohio's enrollment numbers are for grades 10 - 12. Kentucky's enrollment numbers are for 9 - 12.
I knew that but forgot. Thanks.
All I have is the KY Avg 2yrs -at 419 - So HHS would be around 314 or so if taking the AVG for 10 thru 12.
Placing them in D-III – 108 schools with male enrollments of 281 to 402 - and since they are the smallest 4A school in the state (by last realignment count), they would also be close to the same position in Ohio school size.
-
Which, I think kind of proves TOG's point. As crazy as 12 classes would be in OH, and it sounds by your post you would agree with that, there would still be more teams in each division even with that than there are in KY with 6 classes. There would have to be between 19 or 20 classes in OH to equal the approximate number of teams per class as in KY with 6A. When you think about it in those terms, having 6 classes in KY seems even further out there.
After re-reading your post, yes 4A in KY would be roughly equal to 12A in OH.
According to the AVG Boys at HHS of 419 they would fall in DII in Ohio "D-II – 108 schools with male enrollments of 403 to 607". With 7 Div in Ohio they are D11 in KY with 6 Classes they are a 4.
I am sure Ohio had to consider the expense to move from 6 Divisions to 7 prior to making the decision. They would be hard pressed to do 12 - expense and logistics would be a problem.
I know talking to people i work with in Ohio would like to have a tournament like KY and not use ratings.

Week 8 having scheduled to play at Cincinnati Elder on week 10 and last game is week 11.

Calpreps rankings are not complete yet. A lot of teams have incomplete schedules and they use schedule strength in their formula. There will be a lot more movement as schedules are updated
I agree - rankings are still being updated. Just was confused with the Bowling Green at #24 that was posted on the web site and then looked at the details and figured it was a typo on the website.
Below is the link to check updates

According to CalPreps' date=' Bowling Green is the preseason best in state and ranked #24 nationally.[/quote']
I think the #24 CalPreps Posted for Bowling Green is a typo on the web site???

Not sure what numbers you used but I saw the 2011-2012 numbers at 164 boys (BB) vs. 214 (NCC)?? Think its been a while since BB had 200 boys?
Data used for Realignment on KHSAA web site. Link is http://khsaa.org/httpdocs/football/realignment/20112014/2011-2014%20School%20Listing.pdf
It shows BB with 200.5 boys averaged over 2yr period and NCC 213.5 boys.

Per the KHSAA web site Brossart has 200.5 boys (avg 2 yrs grades 9 thru 12) and NCC has 213.5 boys.

When I lived in Bellevue (before Kids) I would attend the high school football games and watched John Sudkamp run for Bellevue - winning state in the late 70's. Moved to Ft Thomas and started attending games with my son's when I was fortunate to see Justin run for HHS. It was great time seeing Justin run. Best HHS runner I have seen.

Well scratch what I just posted. I started to try and watch NCC and the buffering is bad once again. No sure why it was ok for awhile today when I watched HHS and now its bad. I switched over to see if HHS game was ok and it is now hard to watch also. I guess I will try again later.
-
I tried after the game ended and it was bad. I tried at 3:30am on Sat morning and still bad. i tried several times on Sat still bad. I tired Sunday morning and it is running without a problem. It seems whatever problem there was is not corrected (at least for me). Anyone having issues should try it again.

Getting the update on the playoff game between Silver Grove and Covington Latin at half time.
-
I though maybe if I waited until late (now 1:46am)when the internet traffic was low the feed would be better - Video still buffers to much to view - except the commercial breaks - no buffer there (of course). Last year it was not this bad.
-
You can watch the first game class 1A now online but the video is constantly being buffered. I could not watch much of the game it was driving me nuts:eek:
-
If you want to limit it then how about separating the classes into public schools and let them play for a title and the independents and privates who grab players from outside their districts like Highlands, CCH, Trinity etc. it's very easy to say there are too many classes when you root for a school that has a clear advantage over public schools that choose to simply get their athletes from inside their actual school districts than go outside their districts and get the best athletes they can lure to their school.
I believe part of the reason the KHSAA went to 6 classes is to try and satisfy the public school concerns about competing with private schools. I cannot understand their logic, however like any governing body - decisions made to try and help have unintended consequences - like games that are not competitive.
Just for reference and interest
OHIO Division
DI 494+ (boys in three grades 9 thru 11) 118 teams
DII 327 to 493 boys has 119 teams
DIII 243 to 326 boys has 120 teams
DIV 172 to 242 boys has 122 teams
DV 120 to 171 boys has 116 teams
DVI 119 less boys has 122 teams
Total teams in Ohio 717
Kentucky Clases
6A 705.5 + (2yr avg boys grades 9 thru 12) has 32 teams
5A 525 to 695.5 boys has 38 teams
4A 419.5 to 524 boys has 40 teams
3A 331 to 417.5 boys has 39 teams
2A 200.5 tp 300.5 boys has 41 teams
1A 199 less boys has 32 teams
Total KY teams 222
Its interesting that some Ohio schools play KY schools to help improve their ratings and play off chances.

Bishop Brossart had patitioned KHSAA to play in 1A because it was a new program and they were turned down. KHSAA was holding to the alignment - very few changes were allowed.
