  1. I think it is great that the HS students get the experience to Announce games and provide the multimedia. I am a big fan of the process. I know there is a lot of effort and preparation for the students.

However, there should be an adult with knowledge of the game to spot and assist with the announcement of the activity on the field. Name and number of player who carried the ball and who made the tackle, what down and yards to go and support the penalty calls by the referee.

When I hear many of the errors throughout the game I think who is helping the student with the calls? If they are by themselves then the school is not providing the proper support. There may be support but when calls are being announced incorrectly many times throughout the game the school should review the process and product they are providing the fans. Some time teaching less is more or quality over quantity is necessary.

  2. Many factors go into a successful program not just size of the male student population. However, assume that two schools share similar dedication to the sport and have the same level of quality coaching and community support.

I look at Elder and HHS as an example. I believe Elder has close to twice the male population as HHS. When they played you could easily see a difference in size between the two teams and the results show in Wins vs Loss.

The Ohio, Texas student male population plays a part in the number of athletes that support those states success in sending players to the next level in greater numbers than Kentucky.

  3. Statistics (Bell Curve) – School Size Advantage

The average size male in the US is between 5’7” and 6’1. That range covers 75% of the male population. There are around 2% of males in the 6’1” to 6’4” height. Assuming that this holds true for the High School population.

A school with 400 male students will have statistically 8 between 6’1” and 6’4” while a school with 1,000 male students will have 20. If 25% have athletic ability then the school with 8 will have 2 athletes and the school with 1,000 will have 5. If you platoon then the school with 400 has one for offence and one for defense while the school with 1,000 has 2.5 for offence and 2.5 for defense.

  4. Unoffically I have heard the following:

    Trinity - August 15 scrimmage

St. Xavier - August 22 scrimmage

    @ Campbell County - August 29

    @ Bryan Station - September 5

    John Hardin - September 12

    Paducah Tilghman - September 20

    Cov Cath - September 26

    @ Harrison County - October 3

    Columbus (Florida) - October 11

    @ Holmes - October 17

    Elder - October 24

    @ Warren Central - October 31

Five very good home games

  5. Does HHS win if not for the running clock? Remember once the running clock starts it doesn't stop.

There are provision established when the score goes back under 36. It is still considered a running but there are more times when the clock stops than when the score is at 36 or greater.

  6. I certainly respect your opinion on the 4 teams advancing. I just disagree, there are some teams with only 1 win in the playoffs, possibly some winless teams due to the 4 team districts. I guess that my way of thinking is that a last place team, some with no wins at all have advanced should not be rewarded for finishing last. I have said that I would be for 3 teams going, mainly bc that would reward a District Champion with a 1st round bye plus eliminate a lot of embarrassing blowouts, no kid wants to be beaten, embarrassed by 50-60 points. Actually, two teams advancing would be o.k. with me as well, puts even more emphasis on the regular season, district play. JMO and as I said, I certainly respect your opinion.

Now...let's get ready for some football.

I do not think HHS wants a bye in the playoffs. Dale voted for 4 teams. Their backups and JV defense had a rough two outings. WC put 69 on them and Scott County scored 56 in the JV game. The backups and JV need the extra work. Also the Frosh had three games canceled this year. ;)

  7. It doesn't have the scores. It's kinda hidden in the post, but those are links at the end of the sentence where it says NFHS. That's my only source.

My guess is none. I'd guess there's never been more than a handful of games where a team scored that much and lost. I mentioned it in the update thread, but the previous record at WC was 43. It's their 8th loss when they score more than 30. Typically you score 5 TDs you don't lose.

Thanks - I did not notice the link. Well check it out.

  8. The plot thickens a bit:

Per the NFHS record book, Central's 918 yards are the second most ever nationally in a single game: NFHS |

Their 716 rushing yards is 12th most ever nationally in a single game: NFHS |

DF - Congrats to Central, it was fun game to watch. Central played hard and never gave up.

Since you are reviewing the records I was interested in how many of the teams at the top of Offensive yards and yards rushing lost in those games and does it have scores?

  9. It was a fun game to watch. Stayed to the end don’t normally do that.

What an opportunity for Beau Hoge to be in this type of game as a starter and now be prepared in case he is called on in the playoffs. I am certain Houliston a senior will finish out the season however to have a backup QB with this kind of game experience is priceless.

Tonights game also provided quality time for defensive backup DB’s to get more game time. It also allowed the defensive coaches to have tape and teaching moments for the backups. The DB’s many times took bad angles when running at the WC runners allowing long TD runs. Also, in pass coverage they did not look back to see the ball and then did not wrap up the receiver.

WC played hard and did not give up when down big. I am sure the score and yardage gained helped with the long ride home knowing they gave it their best shot.

  10. Also check out Flaget's record versus Elder.:thumb:

I saw the school and record and had never heard of the school so I did not list them however I looked the school up.

Flaget High School was a Catholic College preparatory high school in Louisville, Kentucky's West End from 1942 until 1974. It was located throughout its existence at 44th and River Park Drive, in the Shawnee neighborhood of Louisville.

Record with Elder between 1951 and 1963 was 4 wins and 0 losses.
