  1. Any sport that gets in the way of track will have success at St Henry in spite of the admin.
  2. Send some of those 8th graders our way. The good ones :thumb:
  3. Thanks Lawnboy for the update. Just wanted to note that its nice to watch some girls that emerge from one year to the next. Gabby Stewart is one to keep an eye on. Girl obviously has worked hard and is gonna bust out in a big way. You can see it coming and its neat to see. Butts really throws well, IMO. Defense was shaky that one inning, I had it as three errors, but only one run came out. BTW, the NewCath JV girls show that the program is doing things right. A lot of young kids that know what they are doing.
  4. Dang Lawnboy, whats her GPA and favorite color?
  5. My understanding is that yes, they did, at the request of two of the players.
  6. That's good. Its still early and a solid D behind Noelle can go a long way.
  7. Missed the game myself so don't know for sure but I would suspect the latter. What you saw at Ryle was not a one time happening. D has a long way to go but then again, you aren't gonna win many games with one hit. Hope it was a clean hit that stopped the no hitter.
  8. Thinking about it and need a 4th. U in?
  9. In all truthfulness, the play at second was bang, bang and I could see how having rose colored classes (or in this case green colored) could make one think the call should have gone the other way. Third base was not even close.
  10. They hit it every bit as well as Ryle did.
  11. WOW. I was standing about 15 feet away from that 3rd base play and she never got the tag within 5 feet of the girl. But I guess different strokes. Do you keep the Brossart book as well? What did they end up with 15 hits? Relax, Im just kidding.
  12. I don't recall Ryle making an error. They had a couple base running mistakes. I wasn't counting the errors but there were a boatload by Highlands. Not sure how many runs were unearned but many were. Ryle looks good defensively. Crupper pitched and she throws hard. 2nd time thru the lineup Highlands started to time it pretty good.
  13. Ryle played very solid. Highlands hit the ball well in spots but committed about 8 to 10 errors that cost em a shot. Somewhere I read where defense is important in high school ball. It's early Bluebirds and it will get much better by years end. You will be playing with anyone by then.
  14. Very true. That was a big hit that drove those two runs in, which certainly made it easier to finish the game out.
  15. She dropped the ball twice and then lifted the ball to touch the bag with it. By the time she put the ball on the bag, the runner's foot was there. The right call was made. Didn't really matter. Can't win with 0 runs.
  16. Conner plays error free in the infield they win the title game last year with 1 run on a few hits. Their run was unearned. Which team was the better hitting team? Who knows. It didn't matter. Defense is/was the key for high school in this region.
  17. The difference between college and 9th region high school right there. Pitching and defense first wins here. Not enough teams can play error free. Those that do and have a good pitcher win. College is different.
  18. Not sure. I think so. They have the ability to make runs with speed as well. NDA didn't hit the better pitchers well last year. Ryle had some issues as well as did Conner. I'm telling you that "hitting" is overrated. Put the ball in play. Stress the other teams D and play solid defense. If you have a good pitcher with the rest, that's the formula. Ryle won the region because they played the best D the last few years, not because they had better hitters.
  19. Usually it comes down to D. More specifically infield D. Whichever team plays best wins. I can't tell you who can or can't do that yet. I would ask, Can NDA put up 3 or more runs against Conner or Ryle? They got blanked by Ryle, St. Henry and scored 1 off of Boone last year. Not exactly ringing it up. Can Ryle score more than 3? Don't know. Trust me, run production is not usually gonna be the deciding factor. All runs in the title game last year were unearned. All of them. Whichever team plays the best D will win it.
  20. I say Conner Ryle and ND could win the Region this year. I really don't see anyone else at this point. I'd still take Conner.
  21. From Richard Skinner: Preseason Top 10 Teams (selected by Kentucky Softball Coaches Association): 1, Conner. 2, Ryle. 3, Boone County. 4, Notre Dame. 5, Dixie Heights. 6, Cooper. 7, St. Henry. 8, Newport Central Catholic. 9, Highlands. 10, Holmes. Preseason Top 10 Players (selected by Kentucky Softball Coaches Association): 1, McKell Oliverio (Ryle). 2, Elizabeth Sims (Conner). 3, Ali Crupper (Ryle). 4, Sydney Himes (Conner). 5, Dallis Knotts (Boone County). 6, Jessica Koors (Cooper). 7, Kelsey Hammes (Ryle) 8, Erika Stein (Boone County). 9, Lauren Willett (Cooper). 10, Noelle Butts (St. Henry). Your thoughts? All I know is that if Haylee Smith isn't in the Top 10, that's one hell of a region.
