Beechwood 29 Newport Central Catholic 20
bjaynes replied to swamprat's topic in KY Football (High School)
I come from Michigan where there has been 8 divisions for some time in HS football. They are called Division 1, Division 2,.........etc. You get the pattern. Why are the divisions in KY called 1A, 2A, 3A and so forth? Are there divisions 1B, 2B, 3B and so forth that we don't know about? -

Track season will be fun as Vocke and Nussbaum will probably run the 100m against each other. Then they will be part of the 400m relay team along with Gage Erdman who is also a burner. -

Guru, define for me exactly what "typical Beechwood arrogance" is. It was obvious Spartan79 was yanking your chain in good fun. Did BW do something to you to give you an edge about them? -
To satisfy the masses we could give BW the honorary #1 ranking in 2A if they beat NCC tonight. That way Mayfield and BW can both be #1 if and when they meet in a few weeks.

Beechwood/Newport Central Catholic Predictions

Great synopsis, VOR. If the game was on ESPN your dialogue would be the lead-in. -
Find out if who's hurt?

I would not be surprised to see a good deal of "wildcat" formations if Davis cannot play. We saw a glimpse of it Friday when Max Nussbaum took the snap in the shotgun and launched a long pass to Cordosi for a TD.
-
Could very well be but I think they have the athletes and depth to re-tool the way they run the offense and still be very competitive.

There is a HUGE difference between finishing the play a little late or not being able to let up in time and deliberately turning around and going after someone. This was at someone who had their back turned and had ZERO chance to defend himself. I would have been upset with a BW player if they did that. The flag was thrown and I stated that.

#6 on Ludlow (Yates I think) did not care for Beechwood's Ecykmans finishing the play. Ecykmans was walking away and Yates went after him and hit him in the small of the back. This time the refs flagged him. It's probably hard for some of these teams to keep their cool when the score starts to get out of hand. No excuse though.

Freedom of speech has nothing to do with it. Unfortunately, even at the HS level, teams will go after a player that might not be 100% and focus on the injury and try to take him out. It's more like freedom of common sense.

The helmet was ripped off (by the facemask) by the QB whp threw the int. This transpired as they were close to falling out of bounds. The play was blown dead as they were going out of bounds and for the 15 yard personal foul. From my perspective it seemed pretty flagrant but it's hard to say unless you are down on the field. On the same note, the Beechwood coaching staff frowns on injuries being talked about on BGP and on occasion they have good reason. This was pointed out to me a few weeks ago by a staff member and it made sense at waht he was saying.

The subs were sent in in the 2nd so the last 20 points or so were scored by them. Even the 3rd string QB got some minutes. That is good for the kids. Not sure what Vocke ended up with. I think 4 TDs on maybe 6-7 carries and I would guess 175 yards. Yanked in the 2nd quarter.

Weekly Mayfield/ Beechwood thread

Never heard what you guys are called in the 200+ episodes of Leave it to Beaver. I assume Wally Cleaver was quite the football player when he played at Mayfield. -

That is funny. It looks like some Mayfieldites came out as well. Are you called Mayfieldites? -

Ditto. It's amazing for that perspective to be extracted from the article. Rash has probably more respect for Mayfield than anyone else in the BW staff and fan base. He has said several times, "We have to find a way to beat Mayfield." -

If BW and Mayfield meet Thanksgiving weekend the schedules will not mean a thing. The better team will prevail no matter who they played to get there. -
NKY Frosh Title game, how will it be decided?
bjaynes replied to theguru's topic in KY Football (High School)
Who's in the running for the small school title? Is it easier to figure out? -
If there is a large gap between NCC and BW then please deifine gap. If NCC crushes BW then there is a large gap.

1. Highlands 2. CCH 3. Beechwood 4. NCC 5. Campbell County 6. Ryle 7. Boone 8. Holy Cross 9. Dixie 10. Cooper

Beechwood is hosting Moeller this Thursday (10-20) in a Freshman matchup. (6 PM) Anyone know how good Moeller is and how BW will match up with them?
-
Touthpick......you were wondering earlier in the week about the receiver who caught the nice passes last year in the semi-final game? His name is Corey Cruse and he went down last night with a knee injury against Dayton on the last play that the starters were left in. Not sure how serious it is. Corey goes about 6"-5 and is the top returning hoops player this year for BW. Could be a double whammy if it's bad.

Is NKY Football Really That Good?
bjaynes replied to Keep It Real's topic in KY Football (High School)
CCH is having a great year after some not so great years. Perhaps that is why they were not mentioned in the same breath as the other 3. Another year or two of consistency and CCH will roll off the tonguw with the others. -

Got it. Thanks. Hey, if you ever want to move back, there are some nice homes for sale in Fort Mitchell.
