It's a lonely job. Enquirer selected Camp Co rookie coach as coach of the year thanks to their state run. Impressive. Any other thoughts from anyone on the Enquirer fall sports all-stars that just came out yesterday?

Tied #2 - Ryle and St. Henry. Ryle may have a better season than St. Henry this year, but it will be close. #1 - Notre Dame. The only team that can beat ND this year in the State of KY is ND. They are loaded every year, but this one is well above normal for ND. That said, it looks like they had some off-season turmoil - will it divide them or unite them? Honorable Mention: Holy Cross . . and . . anyone else??? Campbell Co made it to state (thanks to a soft 10th Region - just ask NCC how they like being in the 9th now) - will CC be even better this year?

"Nelson" - after reading the previous Enquirer article, and reading all of your previous posts, and the fact that you are bringing this up now - 2 days into the tournament- I seriously doubt you are the real coach.

Interesting times in Park Hills. With what Mercy, Assumption, St. Henry, and Sacred heart will all lose to graduation this year, and with what NDA has coming back, for the first time in a long time, NDA has to be the favorite to win state in 2013 (Sacred Heart is now the team to look out for from Louisville). With NDA poised for a state run, and the fact that Coach Long coaches 3 NDA All-Staters on his club team (Thelen, Ogle, Klare), I doubt this was his idea. Expectations always run high at NDA, but anything less than a 1st or 2nd state finish next year will have supporters wondering if NDA kept the right coach. Dumping coach Long puts all of the spotlight, and the pressure, on the head coach (so what else is new) If NDA got rid of their "good cop" coach, where does that leave them? Who will they bring in to squeeze the most out of a team loaded with the most talent in the state in 2013?

I don't really see this as a public/private debate. SG is an incredibly small school and village with a tiny enrollment. For some reason they insist on having their own independent school system and district, which is not working. Silver grove is currently ranked 173 out of 174 school districts in the state according to test scores. With no resources, tax base, or enrollment to speak of, I hope stubborn local pride isn't standing in the way of getting the students a better education. Interesting. What most people on here seem to be saying is "I'm fine with the way BBHS administered the beating, just don't brag about it". Shouldn't the focus be on stopping the beating in the first place? Reporting or not reporting the score should not be the issue.

Not the same at all. I said play the Freshman team, not Freshman on the Varsity team. That's a HUGE difference. Saying they played their Frosh and JV players that are on the Varsity team isn't really calling off the dogs now is it. I'm saying send the Freshman team next time, only the Freshman team. I know this idea will blow the minds of many on here, but why not? BBHS could then say they did everything they could in a game they had no choice but to play in.

BBHS has to play this game. Not their fault. If the rest of the District is stupid enough to continue to vote for seeding, the beatings will continue. That said, BBHS should do the right thing and have their Freshman or JV team play these regular season Varsity games. That's right - the Freshman team or the JV team can start and play a Varsity game - The Varsity team is credited with the record. It counts as a Varsity game for whoever plays, so from that point on, whoever plays would be subject to Varsity transfer rules. I've seen it done before and it avoids problems like this. Yes, it takes a game away from the BBHS Varsity - is that really the problem here? And yes, it's a slap to Silver Grove and all similar schools to field your Frosh or JV team . . . but it sure beats the alternative. I will say the playoffs are a different story. That's unavoidable and it's the playoffs. But the regular season didn't have to happen this way. Just because a Varsity game is scheduled, doesn't mean you have to field your regular Varsity team in said contest. Stay classy, Mustang Nation.

It hard to disagree with any of that, so what you are saying is it's all coming down to coaching decisions (some made in the offseason and during July workouts) and game planning. That's why I'll take HHS to continue to own CCH. Coach in place, system in place, scoreboard says it all. Is there a belief CCH has the players to beat HHS but is not utilizing them correctly?

All recent evidence and scoreboards would indicate the opposite.

I think it's funny that it's to the point now that the hopes for the next CCH state championship depend upon HHS being moved out of their class. Why is CCH v HHS still billed as "NKY's best football rivalry?" A rivalry means the other team wins every now and then. Close games, blowout games, regular season, playoffs - HHS wins them all. If CCH isn't building their team and season to do one thing - beat HHS - what's the point? You get what you tolerate.

How do you know what's correct and incorrect? Is the game over? When young, inexperienced, physical teams get down, things usually get rough. That's Futbol. I hope BBHS doesn't get as easily flustered as you do!

Letcher County is going to their 8th straight State Championship . . . . where they are 1-7 in the 7 previous years. I guess they are due for an upset?

I will say the pressure is all on ND. It's all about expectations. Seems like for BBHS just getting to state was/is good enough - they've cleary exceeded all expectations for the season. ND expected to win state every year. Big difference.

Same thing with volleyball - only 2 teams left there too. I predict BBHS way over their heads tonight - ND big match experience wins out.

A simple fix would be to advance only 1 team from districts to regionals instead of 2, and advance both of the regional championship teams to state instead. Makes the state tourney longer and bigger, which makes more $$ for the KHSAA.

Nope. Just the facts. In 33 years of Volleyball in Kentucky, only 5 teams have EVER won the state championship, and they all hail from Regions 6, 7, and 9. So the deep regions leave strong contending teams at home, and on the flip side, if you win any other Region, what shot do you have? History says none. I would think everyone would be lobbying to change the format, seems broke to me for a number of years. The first round game at State for the Region 6, 7, and 9 winner shouldn't be as easy as their first round District game - but it will be.

All the more reason to have classes or wild card teams.

Ugh. NKYfan.com tweeted "Very impressive to see the run Scott has put on in volleyball recently..." Really? going 3-7 in your last 10 games is impressive? The state tourney is a bad joke. The semi-final losers tonight in Region 9 would pound both CC and Scott (and did in the regular season) and should be going to state instead. What's worse, Region 10 matches up with Region 3, which is even worse than Region 10. Have 16 regional winners plus 8 wildcard teams . . or reassign the districts and regions . . . or have classes like in football. Too many good teams in Regions 6, 7 and 9 being left at home.
