I did not play football, but I remember in the early 90's when I was in school the football players complaining about how hot it was and not getting any water. Now, 20 years later, it seems like it has gotten hotter and teams aren't helping their case with this field turf. What is going to happen in another 20 years? Are they only going to be able to practice during summer nights? Maybe only inside? I can only imagine, because even at night it has been horribly sticky.

I had the pleasure of talking with Matt a few times and he is a very genuine person. I hate to see such a good coach and person leaving the diamond, but I am sure that he will do great things at St Mary. Good Luck and God Bless Matt!

I guess I should repost. I agree with you Q, and VOR when it comes to your thoughts about the past 2-3 years. But, if you look at the past fifteen to twenty years your theory doesn't hold as much water. Look I know Dale came in sometime in the mid 90's, don't know exactly when and we will say that is when HHS' domination in football really started to pick up. Well, the baseball team, and I think basketball team was good through atleast 2000. I know Schlarman had some good teams with basketball, but the slide of baseball was bad in the early part of the 2000's, and then picked back up for a couple of years but is now back to the slide again. If the football program was hogging all of the talent, why did it start in the 2000's? Why not the mid 90's when Dale started to bring trophies into the school?

I honestly think this and VOR's responce after are the two best things that have been said on here. I am not blaming football, but you two bring up two good points.

I tell you what, since you "know" who I am, in two years when the birds are contenders in the 9th, you come on down to my house and I will buy a nice bottle of Dom for you.

Raiderbird, I can assure you that I don't know what you are talking about. I never went for any HHS job. This is the problem with people at HHS. You can't take any criticism. I am simply saying that something at HHS is wrong. I have never once said anything negative about the coaching or administration. If you are happy with mediocrity, and what has become below medicrioty then great. Have fun being the laughing stock of the 9th region, but I am tired of my district being dragged through the mudd because we (NCC) are the only good team year in and year out. Also, I think it would be best to look up rule five on your free time.

Actually, if you look at the khsaa website's posting of the 9th region standings, the seeding would have been NCC, Bellevue (2), Newport (3), Dayton (4), and HHS (5). So, really this is the closest the blind draw has probably come to correctly "seeding" them. I get why Newport, Dayton, and Bellevue would feel that way. I personally wouldn't want to get into the regional tournament that way, but I get why you would want your kids to have that feeling if they could. I guess my main point is why wouldn't this be a thing that the state would take care of to make it even across the board. I think in the grand outlook of things it hurts the 9th region, because there is already talk on other threads about how easy the team that draws the 2 seed out of the 36th will have it. In a tournament where pitching is key, if you draw that 2 seed from the 36th you can save your 1 or 2 pitcher until later in the tournament. This seems to be a huge advantage and something that has happened in the past couple of years with the sinking of the 36th district.

Can someone please explain to me why the 36th district is the only one in NKY and possibly KY that doesn't have seeding in the tournament? I was told that it had to do with a vote between the teams in the district. That the majority had to vote for seeding and that it will never happen, but doesn't it seem unfair to the other districts? Why doesn't the state say that all district tournaments have to be seeded to make it even across the board?

Ok, so I am going to play devil’s advocate here. Don’t get too mad at me, but…. The general consensus on this thread is that the problem with HHS baseball is not the administration, coaches, or player’s talent. It is not spring break either. The problem with highlands baseball is the fact that highlands baseball is ten years behind the rest of northern Kentucky when it comes to its feeder programs. That everyone else in northern Kentucky knew about the SWOL program except the parents that had kids going into HHS? Because this obviously hasn’t hurt the program of New Cath who has kids that live in Ft Thomas, or Bellevue who are just down the street. Well, if Mr. Mark Twain was correct when he said that he wants to be in Cincinnati when the world ends because it is ten years behind the rest of the country, I want to be in Highlands because then I will get an extra ten years on top of that.

I am sure that it would be fun to go to FL and play baseball but I am sure that it would be like most spring break trips with way too much party and not enough baseball.

Mexitucky, This is what I am talking about. For the past 6 years people have been talking about building the program and that it is coming up with underclassmen. I thought that it might have been true when they did so well in 2007, and then they might not have been as good, but they were still pretty good in 2008. After that they have been in a decline and the talk of dedication comes up again. What happened to the dedication that was there in 07 and 08? What made it leave HHS?

I have noticed that this spring break conversation comes up a lot in threads dealing with the birds. Is there no compromise? Can you not go to Myrtle Beach or somewhere out west? I figure if people are willing to drive 14 hours to go to Florida, wouldn't they drive somewhere else? It just seems to me that TN was a good idea at first but maybe it is a little bland for a spring break trip. If you are going to go somewhere why not make it a trip that the boys will be excited about? Maybe that will keep the older kids in baseball. Besides I don't think that they have gone to FL in atleast 10 years. I am fairly certain they didn't go anywhere when they were 22-14 in 2007. What was the difference there? Was it a fluke, or where they just stacked with talent? I am just trying to figure out in 5 years what has happened and I am sorry but Spring break is not the answer because spring break has only changed for the better (the kids are actually going somewhere now). On the second point is there nothing that HHS can do to keep the kids in baseball? Obviously it didn't work when the team turned around from a 6-13 season to a 22-14 season in just two years. What would keep these kids playing baseball at highlands? I understand the fact that most players don't play three sports anymore. I get that, but why is it so accepted that baseball is obviously the first to go? This obviously isn't happeneing at other schools in the 9th region. What is the difference?

So, I guess I am just confused because I do not have a kid in high school yet, and I played knothole growing up until I got into high school. Are you telling me that knothole has gone that far down that anyone who plays in that system now cannot be competitive? Plus, you are saying that the previous coaching had nothing to do with what their records indicated, but that the competition was not as good as it is now? So, if a school in Kenton or boone county fell to the level of a 2011 HHS that it would be the coaching, but not in ft thomas because it is the feeder program?
