  1. There are several players with me coming to mind. By the way, that team back from early 90s with Bellevue had all kinds of talent. If I remember right, they made the state title losing to Russellville. On into the 90s, Bellevue had Karcher, the Swopes, Roa, Fausz, the Wilsons, Cayze, and others.

As far as other players, the teams at Dayton from '95--97 had a lot of talent; Jason Skirvin, Mike Walls, Jerry Cline, Neil Richardson, Jason Leger, Matt Hundemer, and more. Obviously Beechwood had a lot of talent between the Wulfecks, Berger, Brockhoft, the Bishops, Lubrecht, Hergott, Zahler, Jones, Zeller, Huth, and more. There may be some forgotten talents at Lloyd; particularly Holmes, Lloyd, and Lee. If I remember right, Lee had some of the most impressive passing statistics of NKY quarterbacks during that time.

Many speak of some of the best teams of Highlands being over the more recent few years, however, I don't know how the team with the class of '93 can be forgotten. That was a loaded team with Scarlato at RB, Crawford at QB, and the lines on this team had Schlarman and Reynolds. I believe this was a very good team and I believe that Adam McCormick was QB for Cov Cath at that time, which was a big upset when Highlands beat them and advanced to win state that year.

Two good players come to mind for me from Campbell County during early/mid 90s; Doug Turner and Greg Menetry. From Boone, obviously there was Alexander. One more RB I can remember playing during a scrimmage from Conner was George Duvall, he was a beast.

Newport Catholic had a lot that I can't remember many names except for Sandfoss, Meyers, Wiggins, and Eviston. During the early 90s, Newport High School had possibly one of the best runningbacks in NKY, Adam Brown.

A few other standouts that I can think of came from teams with average and below average teams, including John Gibson and Nathan Brummett of Simon Kenton and Roy Hall from Scott High School. Hall may have been able to start as a RB for any school back then.

  2. This should be an interesting game and may be one of the better ones going on in the 2nd round of Class A. This season, I have saw WV play once and did not see Frankfort. I think this may be a closer one than some are thinking and from what I have heard about both from others, I wouldn't be surprised if WV pulls out with a win.

  3. I can't believe that I am even seeing that SK will beat Ryle. They will be very lucky to even get another rematch with them. Tates Creek should have won and they did not because they clearly beat themselves. I believe that SK will need a miracle to even get past Henry Clay. Anyway, my answer to this post is that Trinity will win hands down against anyone anyehere. If anyone is capable of giving them a game, it is Ryle.

  4. And I must have also missed how TC was killing the SK defense running or bouncing to the outside. They turned the ball over on downs a couple of times. SK had one good offensive drive resulting in a TD. The fumble by TC on the 2 yard line in the 2nd quarter and the bad snap on the punt by TC in the 4th quarter were the differences in this game.

  5. I was surprised to say in the least after seeing the game between Simon Kenton and Tates Creek tonight. I, like many others, expected this one to not really be close, which definitely proved me wrong.

Before the playoffs started last night, I really thought there was going to be a legit chance of seeing a rematch between SK and Ryle. After last night's game, I'm not so sure. SK was very fortunate to win tonight. Tates Creek really impressed me with the way they played and if it were not for the fumble that they had on the 2-yard line in the second quarter, the fumble they had on a kickoff, the bad snap on the punt in the 4th quarter, and a few penalties, one which could have went either way if another officiator was calling the game when the RB for TC broke loose for the touchdown, they would have clearly won this one.

SK did not beat TC, TC clearly beat themselves tonight. SK needs to be much better than last night to beat Henry Clay. I am aware that TC is kind of similar, but HC is better, and will win if SK plays the way they did last night, guaranteed.

  6. You are right mexitucky, it's still sad to see happen, especially when it was the school you attended and when things were much better from administrative, leadership, and sports perspectives. I definitely do not put the complete blame of the football problems on Deaton. I'm perfectly aware that he punched out a window on a bus, but you have to really think about all of the contributing problems to what caused that, which I also do not believe has to do with the players/students.

  7. It would be great if this happens, but I don't see it. I believe that the best chances are Newport Catholic, Highlands, and Beechwood. Ryle or Simon Kenton will need a miracle to beat Trinity and the same can be said for Holmes, especially if they have to face Boyle or Bell County. And I'm not 100% confident that Highlands will do it this year. I would like to see them bring another title back to NKY, but this is looking like it could be a year that they may not in comparison to several others. I believe that the 5A and 2A playoff races will be most interesting to keep up with this season.

  8. There is no doubt that Beechwood is a familar foe to many in Eastern, Central, and other parts of KY when it comes to deeper parts of the playoffs and title game.

The reason I'm saying to beware is due to the state's Class A rankings on here and possibly on others. After seeing the way they played Newport Catholic last night, they are very alive and well in regards to being in the hunt for another title.

Do not be deceived by their size, they are definitely smaller than past teams, particularly their linemen, but they make up for it with their athleticism and speed.

Their offense is well balanced like always, while they may be underestimated defensively.

One more thing, there is a runningback on the team that may be one of their more talented that I have seen in a long time, his name is Volke. This kid heavily impressed me and I believe that it's fair to say that he could be a multi-threat to many after seeing his performance. I am surprised that I have not heard more about him on here. He is talented to say in the least.

  9. I'm not a fan, I'm neutral and thought this would be a great game. You can't just blame that play, eventhough it may have been a drop. NC lost this game in many ways and were fortunate to even make overtime. They had an unbelievable amount of penalties that were mostly senseless and defensively looked lost for nearly three quarters. If they are going to win state or advance deep, they can't play the way they did tonight, guaranteed.

  10. Could have been a drop, either way, NC did a lot of things tonight that didn't help them win. They had an unbelievable amount of penalties, which most of were completely senseless. If they are going to advance deep in the playoffs and have a serious chance at winning state, these kinds of problems cannot happen. Plain and simple.

  11. I was sitting around doing nothing and decided to go to this game tonight and I didn't regret it. This definitely has to be one of the best games of the season in NKY, along with the game between Ryle and Simon Kenton and others.

Newport Catholic was done 25-8 into the 3rd quarter and they tied it at 25 with just a minute to go. Beechwood went for a 2-point conversion that made it according to the officators, however it was controversial.

Either way, this was a very fun game to watch and one that I'm very glad that I decided to go to. Games like this are what makes football fun to watch.
