  1. You are welcome VOR. Bellevue administration was nice enough to let me know early so that I could look for another teaching and coaching position while a lot of jobs were open. With core content subjects being pushed into the limelight because of test scores and the need for remediation there will be a lot of other non core content teachers in my situation this summer. It is unfortunate but a reality of being a non tenured teacher. I will admit that I made mistakes as a first time head coach but nothing that happend on or off the field led to Bellevue's decision. It was all about the teaching position. As we know teaching pays the bills and coaching is something I do for the love of the game.
  2. The only reason that I resigned from Bellevue was because the business teaching position that I hold is being cut in the 2011-2012 school year. I accepted this job with an idea of being here for a while. I love the northern Kentucky area and would like to stay. A big reason for that is the passion and excitement that fans have for the game of football. I was blessed to have a season at Bellevue to learn from. I have made mistakes and have learned from them and I am ready to move on. It is unfortunate that my position as well as another tenured teacher's position was not allocated for the 2011-2012 school year. Again I am grateful for the opportunity that Bellevue presented me with and I hope to have another shot in the near future to build a program that is successful on and off the field.
  3. There is no reason to bring anyone other than myself into this conversation. The only reason that I got on here was to clear up rumors and to state MY intentions are to be at Bellevue for years to come. I have made mistakes in dealing with kids, parents, and the community. Coach Eckstein has had my back every step of the way and has taught me more about being a caring High School coach than anyone at our school. This is NOT an opportunity to pass judgement on ANYONE. I am sure I will meet SOON with the AD and Principals and find out what direction they want to go in for the future. As far as I know it is mostly a few select parents who are wanting me gone. Again if my mistakes lead to a change in my future then I am willing to accept that. That is part of this career. Russ Shearer
  4. I believe a lot of this is rumors that are being started by a group of disgruntled parents. I know that I have not pleased everyone and I have made my share of mistakes both on and off the field. I am a first time head coach and a first year teacher. I am sure that I will sit down with administration soon and discuss the progress of our program. Again, I believe a lot of this is rumors, I am looking forward to getting in the weight room with my team and getting them bigger stronger and faster for the 2011 season. That is all that I can confirm at this time. Russ Shearer HFC Bellevue High School
  5. As if right now Coach Webster is the only former or current NFL player that is helping Bellevue. After talking to a couple others and Nate working on getting some "volunteer" assistants I feel like we will get a few hours here and there from some others. Nothing is confirmed right now though. Some of the other players mentioned have very tight schedules. We appreciate them considering us as we try to take this program to the next level but right now it is not confirmed. Russ Shearer
  6. Yes Tressel it great news. I, as well, did not want to seem like I was attacking your opinion either. The toughest thing for a coach to do who is coming into a program that has experienced recent success is to overcome doubt from everyone involved in the program. I just wanted to clear up some things about my motive for being at Bellevue. Thanks to Everyone for your comments especially my friends in coaching like Matt Brown and others. If you have facebook and support Bellevue Football please join the "Bellevue Tiger Football" group. This is for ALL of our supporters and playing and coaching alumni so that we can communicate about ideas in the program from fundraising to founding alumni associations. Please do not join if you intend to use the group for trash talk or other purposes. Thanks, Russ Shearer
  7. The last line should have said young men and women. I am blessed to have a very good athlete as a kicker who happens to be female.
  8. I am typically not a message board guy as you can tell by the number of posts. However, I felt that it may be best to post and answer any questions as far as my intentions as the coach at Bellevue. To address the doubters first. I took the job at because I am 100% supportive of my family and we made the decision as a family to accept the job. At the time I applied for the job it appeared as though my 3 month old son may have cystic fibrosis. Thank God that is not the case but if he had the disease it would have required being at Cincinnati Children's Hospital a great amount of time. The second reason is that I am able to step into a position in a tradition rich program that is coming off of a 9-4 season. The third reason is that being in a more metro setting allows my wife (a web designer) more opportunity to work from home and raise our son which is important to us. Finally, I have recruited the school for four years and developed a relationship with Coach Eckstein and several of the players. I am blessed to work at a school that supports its teachers, coaches, and football the way that Bellevue does. I have worked hard in my life to overcome poverty as a child and growing up. Football and Coach Niece at Estill County were instrumental in seeing that I was taken care of. I can remember several days in high school where Hoover allowed me to shower at school in the locker room because the water at my house was turned off to keep me from being made fun of. When I got into college I decided that eventually I wanted to have the opportunity to make a difference in a young man's life the same way that coach Niece had made in mine. I have moved up the college ranks and each of those moves have led me closer to where my heart is in the Commonwealth of Kentucky and serving a community in need of strong male leadership. The reason that I left college ball is in the last calendar year I have been away from home 73 days between recruiting and signing and speaking engagements. I have been married for 2 years and now have a son and I am tired of not being home for my wife and son. It would have been much easier to return to the great position at the University of the Cumberlands and continue to win conference championships because my wife is employed here and I would not have to take the classes in order to become certified, but my wife wants to raise our son from home. And I feel that I am being called to make a difference in a different part of the state. I can handle criticism and doubters as that is just a small part of the job. However, I thought that I would give them the answers as to why I applied for and accepted the Bellevue job. God Bless each and every one of you that supports high school football and the young men that play the greatest game, Russ Shearer
  9. Coach Walton was a great person and a great coach. I remember seeing him on TV as a kid and wanting to coach because of the way his players spoke about him. I was fortunate to have met him a few times in the past ten years and he was a thrill to be around. May our prayers be with his family and friends. Rest in Peace, Coach Walton.
  10. This is the plan that Julian Tackett is pushing for. I know that for a fact and since he is the most influencial person in high school administration I would say there is a good chance that it passes. Also I believe that the class A would be split into 4 4 team districts and played at a different site than the other championships. Which in my opinion is good because its sad to see a 1A crowd in A big stadium. This i do not know about though. Here is what I think that class A will look like. District 1- Fulton county, Fulton city, Louisville HC, Eminence District 2- Bellevue, Dayton, Fairview, Paintsville District 3- Paris, Frankfort, Campbellsville, and Williamsburg District 4- Phelps, Harlan, Jenkins, Pineville District 1 is tough allignment.. Makes me wish that Fulton city and Fulton Co would consolidate and then alignment would be better
