If I'm mistaken, I apologize but last year I saw one of them doing a freshman game at Ryle and some JV. Maybe he was just filling in for someone, I don't know. I just didn't expect to see him in a larger magnitude game. As I said on another post, officials don't lose games. I did think this three man crew had some trouble getting on the same page at times, but that effects both teams with the delays.

I didn't think the officiating was awful, but a shot to the forehead, enough to snap your head back is not "beauty in the eye of the beholder" it's just fact. Did it cost the game? Of course not. I have never seen a team lose a close game that they themselves didn't have the chances to win. There could have been missed freethrows, broken defensive assignments, etc..Referees don't lose games. You can find bad calls on both sides. But if you want to moan and groan about one side, acknowledge the other. Otherwise you're a hypocrite.

When I first saw the thread, I couldn't figure out what the letters meant. Then I read the posts and it dawned on me. We spend so much time worrying about coaches, D1 players, recruiting, etc. that we forget that for some kids, those ideas aren't even part of their thinking when it comes to basketball. They just play because they love the game and for no other reason and they play just as hard as anyone else. I would suggest to everyone, especially parents of kids who are fighting for championships and scholarships, count yourself fortunate for what chances your kids have. I'm not trying to preach, but sometimes I think we all need a reality check.

Just remember when you look at this list that none of them would be on the list without talented players. There are so many good coaches who never get a chance at a list like this because they simply don't have the players. I know that some coaches can make less talent better, but be realistic, you don't win championships without talent. Look at some of the powerful girls' and boys' teams from the past and you know any number of coaches could have won with them. You have to have talent. I heard a saying once that no jockey has ever won the derby without a horse. So keep the little guys in mind. They work just as hard with less.

Let's not forget that the Boone program was already a power when Nell got there. I believe, but I may be wrong, wasn't Benny Coffman the coach in the early 80's and they won some region titles. Let's make sure Benny gets a little love for starting the ball rolling.

That shouldn't be condoned, I agree. But I saw #23 on Ryle get hit in the forehead by a Boone player running past a pick and it snapped her head back. The ref, who usually only does freshman and jv games looked right at it and called nothing. I don't hear any complaints about that dirty play. Apparently I wasn't the only one to see it from the crowd's reaction but it wasn't called so I guess that's okay. I guess it's a one way street.

Sorry for posting again so soon. No one is doubting their physcial ability at that level. Playing is the easy part. The real test is mental toughness.

Played against him. His was a good story but if you'll remember, he was a walk-on. Coaches don't put too much worry into walk-ons. Ralph was a great story and a crowd favorite, but, and I may be wrong here, they were directed by a player named Bert Bertelkamp. By the way, if you ever run into Ralph, get him to tell you some of the crazy stuff Bernard King did. Wow!

What about St.Henry in the 34th. They had to be escatic when they were moved out of the 33rd. They pretty much get a free ride to the region every year.

Wow! ESPN? That's pretty heady stuff. They are super young talents who pretty much get by on natural ability right now. At the next level, everyone has talent and the inside players are much bigger and quicker. There are other challenges a college player must face too. Things such as, not being the go to player like high school, playing for a very demanding coach who will quickly replace you if you don't give full effort because these coaches, unlike high school coaches, have to win to keep their jobs. Then of course, the reason you're there, academics. Classes all day, maybe after a 5 a.m. practice, another practice in the afternoon, mandatory study table, lifting weights, etc.. Some kids don't realize it becomes more like a job than a game and the coaches don't care what your high school stats were. It quickly becomes a test of heart and mental toughness. Let's hope you're right, but there are a lot of stumbling blocks along the way.

Good to hear from you Frank. I was afraid you might have gotten snowed in. I personally think Sydney can do alot of things that Boone doesn't need her to do at this time. I was thinking about Boone's current team, and you tend to forget how valuable Sandlin, Davis and Sellers are to the team. Their roles have changed some but they still make others better. I think Boone will miss them more than anyone thinks. I just wonder how well they will be replaced next year. They will leave some pretty important shoes to fill.

As I said earlier, I did not see the part of the play with the slap. No one can approve of that. There were some great efforts but some were from Ryle also or it wouldn't have been close. As for the refs, our whole crew in the ninth region is basically weak. But hey, forget the refs, although they never seemed to be on the same page,Ryle had a lot of chances. Maybe it will happen next time. The goal now is to get through Conner in the districts which will not be an easy task.

Yeah, fans see the game differently, but no one ever doubted the offensive skills. It's just that some former Boone players that I know have been very surprised at the defensive intensity. They just seem baffled that they didn't get to play like that. Just telling you what fans see. I apologize if I got the wrong information.

moving the ball with pass is how Ryle got Boone out of their press and that's how Boone handle Ryle's press; not many Dicky Beal's around to just dribble through the press; however, Coach Dawn will make all 5 girls play defense; could be trouble

Talked to a group of parents from both teams in the lobby. This forum came up and to my surprise, both sides were laughing at your posts. One Boone parent asked how we won a lot of games with no guards? The consensus was that no one was getting mad at you anymore, which is your goal. In fact, they are starting to look to your posts for amusement. Most agreed that you probably do know some basketball but you're extreme dislike for Ryle clouds your judgement. I just wanted to tell you that at this point, you are being laughed at and the Boone parents said they feel very sorry for you. Just trying to help. Your getting no respect. I'm looking forward to your reply to lighten my day. Out.

Crittendon in required to play at both ends of the floor and she does it inside when she is really a wing player. I also picked the brain of a coach in attendance and asked him what first attracts them to a player and he said points. Then they are interested in body type for their level. Finally, he said, they put a premium on whether the player is willing to play just as hard at both ends. Interesting.

I did not see the foul but the incident did happen with the player; two problems I had was how long they continued to listen to Fookes instead of telling her it was over and to sit down and how did the fallen player stay in the game?

Actually sorry I got into this subject. I am not a Ryle parent, but know many of them and it upsets them to hear about their kid's deficienies from some other person who must not have a daughter playing. I just feel bad for the kids when they are trying their best.

Boone may win the region again, but for my money, Dawn is the best coach, boys or girls in the region. Assuming they are injury free, they will be tough to handle.

Here we go again. BS has his right to his opinion but he always has to make sure to have some negativity towards Ryle's team in some way. Apparently they never do anything right and there is some axe to gring. If they mess up, they mess up but they can't be all bad. It's funny, almost all the posters stay away from being very specific about criticism, but you make sure to make some kids your target. Maybe not by name, but your make sure everyone knows who you are talking about. Anyone who goes to a game somewhere can find some kid messing up, but they don't try to make them feel bad. I'm sure you'll have some pointed comment in return, but I don't see other posters putting down kids. Remember, if you are a parent and if your child/children ever tried to play, you wouldn't want someone being critical of your child for doing their best. In a forum like this, you should be ashamed hiding behind your computer screen. Now let's hear your excuse, but you can't change how you talk about high school players doing their best. Sad.

I'm by no means an expert, but every coach I talk to and every analyst I hear says you beat any press by moving the ball with the pass since the ball moves faster than the defender. A man press wants you to dribble the ball more. That plays right into the defense's hands.

Wainscott did not play. Obviously would make a difference. Was it me or did it seem like there were more turnovers than shots taken? Very sloppy.

I mentioned in a past post that a local AD told me directly that BCPS and KHSAA rules can be reversed by the Board of Education if they feel it's necessary. My understanding is that the petitioner must have some sort of legal or medical documentation that states it would benefit the student to move. However, as I've been told, this is not just for athletic situations. It can be students who would like to move for academic or social reasons. Personally, I think BCS should adopt the Kenton County Schools approach to open enrollment going into freshman year. It might solve some of the problems if a student can choose their school right from the start. Just a thought.
