King of the Bluegrass

We call Coach Hicks every year and he declines without hesitation. Two years ago, "It's two far." We had three schools pass through Scott County (I-64) on thier trip to Fairdale. This year, "My schedule is full. We are going to Myrtle Beach (which he does every year and it is after Christmas) and the City of Palms (same time as KOB) as of today they were not in the City of Palms. Pendleton County didn't think Allen needed any more exposure. In my opinion I think it is the best exposure a player can get. Every game is televised, and the % of players that went on to be Mr. Basketball in the past 38 years is extremely high. These are the only two Kentucky schools in years that have turned down and invitation.

We try to watch teams throughout the year...who they played, who they return and how far they must travel. You can't have to many teams from a long distance. I am sure that Jackson, Harlan and Clinton County are very good but they were not a good fit this year.

Before you ask...Scott County and Pendleton County turned down the invitation.

Fairdale High School is so proud of Markelo Sullivan...28 points...and back-to-back 3's after two quick fouls while guarding Romeo. We knew he was good...now he proved it. Kelo can flat shoot it! Named MVP!

Coach is one great person. He always coached with class and it is with much regret that he has retire...he will certainly be missed. He was always there when I needed advise or just a listening ear. The player, Anderson County fans and community will certainly miss him roaming the sidelines. Hang in there, prayers will always there for a full recovery...and God Bless you and your wonderful family. You will always be welcome at the King of the Bluegrass. We will be sending you a LIFETIME PASS.

Scott County and Pendleton County were both invited months ago and turned us down. We invite Scott County every year....and get turned down. Trinity is going to the City of Palms...the #1 tournament in the country with tons of money. We don't have a problem with this. Trinity has been very good to the KOB...and they will be back.

In 37 years: 19 Kentucky schools have participated in the King of the Bluegrass and won the State Championship in the same school year...only 3 of those 19 won the KOB and the State Championship in the same year. 1989-90 Fairdale - 1993-94 Fairdale - 1996-97 Eastern. 22 Out-of state teams have participated in the KOB and won the State Championship in the same year...8 won both. 13 Kentucky schools have been State runner-up.

If all KOB contracts are returned the (2018-19 school year) field is completed. We do not release those names until all contracts are returned. Question: If you are the tournament director who would you invite and why?

It's really tough when you lose after leading most of the game...especially after your leading scorer, and First Team All-Regional player, goes out on what many have told me was a "touch foul". It is my understanding that Craig Ash dunked the ball to tie the game and was hammered with no whistle. I am so proud of our coaching staff, players, dawg pound, and fans. The last two weeks they have faced Valley (+2), @ Butler (-5), @ Fern Creek (-3), @ PRP (-3) and @ Doss (-2)...four of the five games on the road. The Bulldogs were in every game and their true competitiveness by the players and coaches was never more evident than the 24 point comeback in the 4th quarter against Valley. Not bad for a team that was ranked seventh in the region in the preseason. I've been there before and I know the pain that will linger on for months and even years to come. Hold your head up high Bulldogs...we are so proud of you all.

Last night Fairdale was behind Valley by 24 points entering the 4th quarter. The dawgs rallied from 24 pts down (72-48) to start the 4th quarter....final score Fairdale 100 Valley 98 in OT as Glenn Queen hit the winning basket at the buzzer. Huge win and comeback for Fairdale. Fairdale will be the #1 seed in the 21st district. PRP and Valley will have to play each other in the first rd. Fairdale wins thier 10th game in a row. They were down 24 points going into the 4th quarter.. Markelo Sullivan has 22 in the 4th...six "3 pointers." Glenn Queen hits a shot with 2 seconds to go in OT to bring home the victory for the Dawgs.
