  1. What expectations were there when playing against that type of competition? I mean honestly if Brossartwere to only expect to go .500 against those teams then I would call the under-acheiving for them. But like strike 3 said lets get back to the thread topic.
  2. Striker if you noticed that was from the post of somone talking about how good their basketball team is doing this year not baseball last year, read the post first then comment later thats one of the best ways to go about these discussion boards. And yes it doesn't make much sense to talk about basketball in a baseball discussion but I was not one of the ones that started it, I just commented on it.
  3. Hurd never could win the big game, period. It got to the point where you knew going to a game if it was against a good team or the game meant something that if Hurd was pitching they would get beat. He would start off slow, get down early and the game would be over by the 3rd inning. He was a good pitcher, just never ended his career the way many thought he would. His little struggles his sophmore year you can point to say hey he was young. Then came the junior year and excuse could still be young with some nerves and finding himself as a pitcher on that level but everyone including myself thought at any time he would have that break out win either in that junior year or we would see it his senior year, and it never happened Hurd at Campbell county will be remember by a few that were able to watch him play in the 4 years he was there as a real good pitcher, nothing to retire a jersey over or anything like that, all he was, was a good high school pitcher and at most would be able to play at a small school else where. I respect the decision he has made though in not trying to play at a small school far from home just to play another 4 years and be done, better yet he is going to college at home and has better things in his mind and that is a degree, I think that is far better than what most kids go after, and everyone should be proud of that fact. It's a tough decision to make but he has made the right one thats for sure. A great decision by a great young man.
  4. Also CEO to say Mutcsh very rarely pitched against big teams, where exactly are you getting that from look at his games last year that he pitched 1) Scott 2) Campbell County 3) Danville (All A Sectional, big W game) 4) Bourbon Co. 5) Cov Cath 6) Scott again in the district 7) Harrison Co. In the regional That is 7 Starts against some pretty big schools if you ask me? by the way he was 4-3 in those games. 7 starts against these quality of teams in a season when they used 7 pitchers that kind of tells me he did pitch most of the big games for the stangs. And notice the must win games Ie. The campbell county game for seeding, the Scott game for seeding, the sectional game against Danville, The scott game in the district finals and then the Harrison Co. team in the regional second round. Why he didnt pitch the first round, beacuse the played against St. Pats so you won't waste your top pitcher on that.
  5. I stand corrected CEO 1 win against 1 quality team means that you are the top pitcher in your region and should be on the all-american watch. Are you serious Verst was a no body when it came to thinking of who you were going to have to face when it came to playing brossart. I could honestly care less about spelling their names correct I am not here to win a spelling contest and debate how a persons name is spelled. Also Verst was 6-1 not 6-0. And to try and say he's going to be great because he beat a johnson central and a Ky Kings summer team is totally ubsurd to say, you mentioned 2 wins out of how many appearences? I am not here to knock the kid but really be realistic in thinking that he is best in the region. MUTCSH was their number one he pitched against the top quality teams I know this for a fact, and then number two was Uebel then Simon then Verst.
  6. The counselor I couldn't have said it any better myself. I think to say Verst is the best pitcher in the region is something to laugh at. He is a good pitcher, but nothing that is going to shut out a team completely. Like The counselor said he wont be 6-0 against top teams this year. All the good teams that brossart faced last year were thrown by Munch, and Euebel, so there is no excuse Verst should be 6-0 on nights he was facing Bracken Co. or Calvary Christian or the Grove or any of those small schools. He does a good job of keeping guys off balance but will not be mentioned as top in the region. As far as the Post on Gray as a closer thats all he can be with this team, but mind you his fastball is an average speed fast ball at the varsity level, its not over powering like it would be at the JV level. He has a lot to prove, now if he can locate his fastball thats something different, but to really even call him a closer is going to be a stretch because like I said he doesn't have the speed to completely shut things down. What he does have is the mind set of a closer that just says heres my fastball hit it and goes after every batter he faces, which is a good thing. I also agree with you on the fact that they have some holes to fill on the infield this year but I think that their program has some good Jr's coming up to fill those holes, but the outfield will be STACKED, and I can't wait to see Studer perform some miracles in leftfield like he has been doing all his career, with a fast as lighting franzen in center field it will just give him more of an oprrotunity to go after balls.
  7. What is the best deminsion for a high school feild? I think it should be 320' down the lines and 350' to center. Have 20+ feet back stop and 20+ feet of foul ground to the fence.
  8. Very interesting, you thought they would have known that before they even said where the regional was going to be played. IMO the best locations for the regional tourney are either Harrison Co. or Campbell Co. there aren't any other schools with the correct deminsions and locations as well as fan accomodations as those schools. Clark is a close 3rd but man what a traffic mess to get to see it. Plus I would favor the idea of having 1 year down southern part of the region and 1 year up in the northern part of the region so that the northern and southern teams in the region have to take turns traveling each year to the tourney.
  9. Colonel Crazy you are exactly correct. I had to play against John Shelby several times, and actually got to know him quite well on the traveling circut as we probably played over 20 times in a 3 year span. Not only was he the best hitter, fielder and had the best arm I have ever seen for he was a complete gentelman, he was a very special guy and was the real deal there is no lie about that, was Gatorade Palyer of the Year at Tates Creek/ Led Ky to their first SEC season title, and is now playing great in the White Sox Organization. They have said he will be moved up to AA this summer somtime as they will start him out at high A this being his second full minor league year.
  10. Have to agree with you Old Soda, Woodruff in my mind last year was the top pitcher on the team, just the sure dominance he had on the mound compared to the years bray and hurd had, not taking anything away from them. I just expected a lot more out of the two for their senior seasons last year, esspecially with how they pitched their Jr. season and really the whole career for hurd. It's ashame to see so many high school kids have arm troubles because they only have a short time to play at the high school level.
  11. Camel Fan I have seen and clocked these guys many games through out not only High School but also in the Summer. I can tell you exactly what team each kid plays for in the summer and really how they faired for the summer. Woodruff: 84 consistent, played for Cutter had a good summer, missed some games due to football Gray: no summer ball 82, only pitch though Hinkle: 76-78 more consistent at 76, played summer ball for Comair, got rocked quit half way through Dryer: 75-76 can hit both consistant, no summer ball, can keep guys off balance and Coffman: 81-84 consistant at 82, control problems and quite honestly didnt hear where he was at this summer. So as I said not over dominating pitchers, like stated in the post above def. not the 1-2 punch of hurd and bray, but have enough depth that the coach can go to the well for arms if need be, which will help. But nothing that opposing teams can't handle except for maybe Woodruff, and Coffman if he is throwing strikes. Camel Fan, I know it seems that I am bashing Campbell and I am not, I am a Camel fan myself, I am just stating the facts that they are not as over powering as many camel fans think they will be, they will be good, but will have to earn every win they get. There isn't going to be any team out there say that they are affraid of the over powering camels, they will be affraid of the depth, but you have to play defense something they havent been able to do in the past 3 years and have to stay hot with the bats something they havent done either in order for the depth to become a factor. And if going to the semi finals at the JV tourney is acheiving something then wow thats a very low bar to set. Semi finals of the JV tourney means you only won two games in a a tourney to get to the semi's, there hasn't been one piece of hardware ever touched or brought home by this group of seniors at campbell, they havent even got to see a piece of plastic and wood go into a trophy case since they been there which in my opinion is acheiving nothing.
  12. If your wanting to talk offense too then thats fine, tell me are these kids playing against the Seiters of brossart, Moeves of Highlands, ohh I am forgetting that one kid that was great and got drafted that came from Dixie, Schweitzer from campbell, I mean the list could go on and on, and mind you all four that I just mentioned all played against eachother at one point and were all drafted some where in their career.
  13. I think they will be deep, there is a lot of talent there, the reasoning behind being deep is by the notion of being able to go to more arms than most other schools will have an option to go to. As far as talent going deep it will be there but if you read before. Camelfan said those kids would be top in the region, which is a stretch of the imagination. They will be good but only Woodruff will be one of the top guys, and really the only one you can put in the same sentence as Martin, Adkins, Adams etc. Clearing it up they are deep because the 3rd 4th 5th etc. pitcher will be better than that of many other schools 3rd 4th and 5th, but the 3rd 4th etc. will not be as good as other schools 1's or 2's if you know what i mean. And about the partying thing, that being said, this team has the talent to do what they want and if they stay focused they can, I really think if you put them side by side to many teams in this region they should win, but the best talented player man for man don't always win, its the one who wants it more, and frankly I havent seen many of those seniors on that team have that "heart" to want to win more than what you find with Brossart players, Scott players, Harrison Co. players etc. The seniors at Campbell this year have a lot to prove, but in saying that they are one of the top teams in the region. I hope that makes things a little more clear.
  14. That's what I meant. I didn't mean Bracken Co. My fault, I meant to say Nicholas but still is the same concept.
  15. I never said there weren't talented kids I am just saying there is no stand out studs. As a whole there are many kids that can play the bag, but I am saying there isn't really a SS that is going to be a game changer at the varsity level this year. They will hold a solid bag and thats fine but as far as saying there are any SS that are just bubbling over with talent thats far fetched. I mean Diamond Dandy tell me is there a kid in NKY right now that would even come close to the range, speed, smoothness and arm strength of Tim Grogan, T.R. Rose, or J.B Scmidt, there is no way not even close.
  16. Camel fan, I know much more than you think I know. This is accurate information for I have put many of those guys on a gun before and have watched them play many times. I mean I know spelling is a big thing when it comes to evaluating talent and speaking the truth. I mean you cant tell me you honestly think that these guys are better than the 1-2 punch of Adkins and Adams at Scott? And how would you even think about bowling in my last post? I mean really? Campbell county will be one of the tops in the region but still will have a little above average record because they honestly are not as deep as the "Camel" fans think they are. I am a Camel fan, but I look at things realistically. They will have a good team because of other reasons, a very strong outfield and average pitching, with a solid infield. To say the seniors are hungry is something to laugh about, I mean they should be hungry becasue they haven't done one thing yet the whole time they have been at Campbell. You can ask anyone of them and they have other things on their mind this year other than winning a regional title, they would much rather party and worry about a senior trip rather than win a regional title, they are the only ones that have held themselves back, hopefully that all changes this year, but we will see.
  17. Thats why I beleive adkins is better than adams, once you have arm troubles you always will have arm troubles. Especially in the weather you play in during high school ball. Did he have surgery on his arm or was it just a "rest" the arm? I am not doubting you on the fact that the two of them will anchor a good staff at scott, but first and foremost you must be healthy for a full 4 months to contribute fully to your team.
  18. I know campbell co. pretty well and yes Woodruff throws hard, so does gray but gray has only one pitch and thats a fastball, one that wont be that much of a factor on the varsity level. He is a thrower not a pitcher, he knows nothing about setting somone up or locations he will be good for 1 time through the lineup and thats that, late closer maybe, if he is used right he could be a huge help. Saying the Hinkle kid throws hard is like saying that Tim Wakefield throws gas, Hinkle will see limited time, meaning his outtings will be short this year because after one time through the lineup he will get beat up. His fastball is moderate at a high 70's I know this for a fact, he does not break 80 at all. He played summer ball this year in the AABC and got lit up and most of the time was out of the game after 1 inning, if Campbell is relying on him this year they are in some trouble he doesnt have a fastball that will get people out, he relys way to much on his curveball, if he was such a fastball pitcher he would throw that more than his off speed. Ben Dryer has tons to prove, he again throws a moderate fastball not going to break 80. He will have good outtings against avg. to below average teams but will not be pitching in the big game. He will give the camels the wins on the nights that they SHOULD win. And lastly Cauffman has the most upside than any of these guys because he can throw low 80's problem is the control, if you watched him the past 2 years it hasn't been there so that is still out on him until he changes that, had more BB's than K's. I wouldn't put my money on it, he does better at keeping batters off balance than when he tries to rely on throwing as hard as he can, he is a pitcher some days and a thrower other days, depends on the day what type of Cauffman will show up. All in all CC has a CHANCE at having a good bullpen, but has a lot of proving to do, i think they will get the wins where they need to get them but only have a very select few that can pitch that BIG GAME. Also if I am not mistaken I beleive that the franzen kid will be able to pitch again this year, not that he will be dominating but will give another arm in the pen.
  19. I have been arguing that all along when these 10th region teams have to play the regoinal tourney all the way down in clark co. just to get a hotel, thats the same way when they have to come up here for the region. And hey I just have them ranked that way because of that fact, if I had to put money on who would win the first game of the year between Clark and Campbell I would be a fool not to put my money on clark.
  20. ohh and mind you that the great tradition power house of brossart basketball finishes the hardest schedule known to high school sports this year with augusta, deming and newport, with the only real solid team Cov Cath being last. If you can't have a "winning" season with that schedule there are some serious issues. And I know how the brossart people like to pit themselves against campbell co. on this so I did that research for you on campbell and their wins come from teams with a winning % of 35% pretty much the same as Brossart but their losses this season come from teams with a 73% winning percentage, far better than the teams brossart has lost too. But lets mind you this is a BASEBALL thread.
  21. It's pretty safe to say Brossart doesn't play any body worth bragging about. Yes they dont have that much talent this year. They had a good group of kids graduate last year, but so did Campbell and you don't see me using that card with them. Varsity experience means little if anything at the HS level, either you got guys that can play or can't. The ball parks they play in are the same, the innings are the same the players they play against pretty much are the same, they have played against them before. If you want to say look at their basketball this year lets do that, they are 13-11 of those 13 W's they have beat Silver Grove (1-20) Lloyd (9-15) Pendleton twice (4-18) Calvary twice (11-10) Augusta (12-11) Dayton (7-14) Bracken (4-20) Paris (3-15) St.Pat (18-7) LCA didnt know they played basketball (9-13) Harrison Co. (9-12) that means those wins came from teams with a combined record of 87-155 roughly 36% winning percentage, something to be proud of. Most of those schools have 5th graders playing on them. Now look at the games they lost St. Henry wasnt close (13-10) Campbell wasnt close (14-8) Highlands wasnt close (15-7) St. Pats twice losing to them (18-7) Deming (11-9) Mason Co. wasnt close (23-3), Scott (7-17), Holy Cross wasnt really close (8-11), University Heights wasnt close (22-4) and NCC wasnt really that close (14-8), so teams that beat that great tradition power house school that brossart is have a record of 145-91 or 61% winning percentage. So thats my reasoning for saying that yes brossart will beat the small non talented teams but dont have the talent to play with the bigger more talented schools. There is no TRADITION brossart, realize they had some good classes come through, and its time they start realizing that and realizing how lucky they were to have those classes come through and enjoy it while it lasted because now there is no talent like they had. Brossart will continue winning with the small schools but not at the big scale whats happening with basketball will be a repeat with baseball, brossart will not get out of the district this year, they will be 3rd in the district behind Scott and Campbell.
  22. Yes I have and like I said there are good middle infielders but nothing to drool about. I have been around NKY baseball for serveral years and I am telling you compared to just 7 years ago the players today couldn't hold a candle to those players. Like I said there are some good SS's but nothing worth bragging about.
  23. GRC4LIFE... I agree with you on that, it was hard to put Clark behind Campbell because of the fact you stated, Clark has owned Campbell well for a long time now and I can remember Campbell only beating them a couple of times in the past probably 10 years. The only reason why I have them behind Campbell at this point is the fact of they probably won't see Campbell until later in the Regional Tourney and the Regional Tourney this year is in NKY one team will have a 2.5 hour bus ride the other well about 20 Minutes. But I do agree with you 100% on Campbell needs to prove other wise.
  24. You can't be serious. Scotts best pitcher is Adkins which still means that Martin is better than him. You can't tell me Adams is better than Adkins, I don't beleive it and there is no way their coach even beleives it. If I were to rank the pitchers its would be 1- Martin 2- Adkins 3- Woodruff
