Remember the movie Hoosiers? Everyone in the movie was down on Gene Hackman as a coach, they couldnt understand what he was trying to accomplish until towards the end of the movie, then all of a sudden they (Grumblers) became faithful supporters. Dave Wooten needs time to develop and instruct these kids in how they should play the game. It will not happen over night. Boyd County's Dominating Empire did not collapse over night and it will not be rebuilt over night. Give the coach a chance. That chance may take 2-3 years. Many have griped because he plays a full court man to man defense and gets beat, so what is the alternative? Set back in a mickey mouse 2/3 Zone and get beat? Just imagine a team playing a 2/3 zone against Elliot County. He is doing a great job considering what has been going on in the feeder program for the last 15 years. What he really needs is a some of the BC Complainers to step up and help him coach and teach them the "Old Picket Fence" play and please dont get caught watching the paint dry.

Dont want to burst your bubble but those guys had nothing to do with establishing Boyd's tradition. They were good players that helped carry the torch of the tradition but try names like...Pratt, Toler, Wooten, Shumway, Mullins, Sisler, Wells, Taylor, Rakes, Stai, Goad, Spencer, Zornes just to name a few... Wooten has inherited a mess from the bottom floor up not top floor down. It will take him 3 plus years to fix what has been going on in the grade school and middle schools. Boyd Countains should support Wooten and give him some time. Until you have been in his shoes as a head coach you have no idea what he is going through.

He asked the Ref if he could get a "T" based on what he was thinking, the Ref said of course not, Terry then said, " I think you stink!" I had heard the first one was for slapping the backboard while trying to block a shot, the second one was for slapping the hands of a Bath County player that was holding his jersey. Remember, I do not know this to be true, just what was passed on down the rumor mill. We have some good refs and some bad refs in our region. Only 2 or 3 times in 30 plus years of watching High School Basketball would I dare claim the officials cost a team or hosed a team. Even when the officiating is bad a team must find a way to play through it. The outcome is ultimately decided by the players and coaches. I just wish that the Officials would quit anticipating and just call the game as it happens on the court. I watched a middle school game last night and the refs anticipated and blew the whistles and no contact was made by either player. I personally think that over all we have pretty good officials in the 16th Region, having said that there may be a few that should have retired 20 years ago. It is hard to predict the outcome of this one, the Hill by 7. Terry not playing will hurt them but Gambill is due a breakout game. Gambill is one of the best at taking the ball to the basket and creating his own shot, he has plenty of moves. The pre-season game at Russell and the Bath County, Gambill had great moves but the ball just didnt drop...he is due a breakout game. Gregg, Malloy, Kennedy and Bush will be fine in this game.

Any thoughts on who Coach Ross will have as his assistants/coaching staff ?

This is Steve Day. I am not Don King, Curtis Lowe, Madeline Albright, LL Cool J, KYNINERSFAN, FreeAtLast or any other person that I have been accused of being on BGP's. I have sat through several threads were I have been smeared on here. I will put a stop to this whenever God's church has been brought into this. I am not going to get on here and say who did what and who is responsible for what. I will say this, that I have spoken to the Assistant Coach "Jim", in front of two other witnesses, I let it be known that if I caused any friction then I was sorry and I asked "Jim" to forgive me for any wrong doing. The truth of it is that "Jim" and "Bob" spoke maybe 2 times since the middle of December. There was no arguing, no going to parents or players. I sat in the stands and kept stats on all the girls in all catergories. I never once claimed we could beat Boyd County or Ashland. I am not going to get on here and try and damage "Jim's" family or anyone else's, like he seems intent on doing. This is all that I am going to say on the matter. If you have any questions feel free to PM me. The people at Rose Hill knows the truth and there have been several girls, old and new faces coming out for open gym. They are on the upswing and are looking forward to having a great coach like Mark Watkins to teach them the game. They may not win any ball games but they sure won't go through what they had to endure last year. Good luck to all of the girls whether they are at Rose Hill or Ashland, or wherever...it's not all about basketball.

You are correct, and it depends on what two players you are talking about as well.

Old Ball Coach maybe you should have applied. The Rose Hill family would welcome anyone with the abilities to forsee into the future of the girls program.

It will take more than those two players to replace what Ward meant and did for the Kittens.

Whether it is the right choice or wrong choice only time will tell. The last part of your statement is true for any coach just ask Buddy Biggs and Roger Zornes. Maybe they were bad choices as well.

We will see, you cant coach what Clemons had, no matter who the kid is unless it is Chad Jackson.

They have no one to fill Clemons and Metz shoes. Clemons was probably the quickest kid in the state "Laterally".

Elliot East Rose Hill Trust me when I tell you this that no one in the region will be able to guard Mike Davis, Mike Terry and Nate Quackenbush next year. If they do not produce it will not be becuase of defense. Fraley has missed a major opportunity this past season by not developing these kids.

None of the girls are leaving! So let's nip that in the bud. The Lady Royals will be very competetive next year. Why would any of the boys leave? The boys will be better next year as well. I would take playing five against five any day over two against five. As for coaches for the boys team the possibilities are endless...Charlie Baker is going to retire from the East Carter school system and is speculated to step into a gold mine at Rose Hill Nate Quackenbush Mike Davis Scott Gambill Mike Terry John Bush Aaron Crank Kyle Bush Alex Malloy These kids could play for any team in the region, the first 4 could start for any team in the 16th Region. With Baker coaching them the will be in the top 3 teams next year.

It's a pandemic through out the State.

rhfan this is not what was posted! You should get your facts straight. You do not know me and I do not appreciate how you seem to manipulate everything that you do. This thread should be closed because it serves no purpose. I doubt very seriously that Rose Hill is going to make a decision based on what is posted on BGP's. I still say let the players and parents voice their opinion in a public meeting about what took place this year and how the players were treated, not as girls but as a team. :thumb:
