Just because they are still in negotiation has no significance on how much money they are talking. They're still in negotiation because Maile truly is considering skipping college and going pro. That's just my opinion, not syaing you have to believe it!

If you were telling me that Maile was not really a 43rd round pick but rather a top 20 to 25 round pick I'd believe your statement. However, you are saying a kid drafted in the 43rd round is really a top 5 round pick? Even if the kid asked for a million dollar signing bonus then he would have been drafted that high and been given money close to that. I'm sorry but this logic just is way to far fetched! If your that good you will get drafted in the top 5 rounds and you will get money around a million dollars maybe less maybe more just depends. This tells me if Maile was asking for that much then no major league team thought his talent was worth that much hence why he wasn't taken! We will see august 17th....

I'm sorry but in your case you are not right! All I said was that they are the same caliber of player hence why they were both chosen in the same exact round and just happen to be from the same exact state. Also, he only threw out one of a few runners! When Luke played in the area code games he was passed up by the Yankees because they felt his catching skills weren't ready...I guess that really shoots a whole in your he already has the arm and skills theory... I don't know what gives you the right to make what you say gold>:confused: I'm not saying if he goes 5 for 5 he is ready. But that is much more impressive going 5 for 5 then going 0 for 5 and saying well I hit the ball hard. I still don't think he is ready even if he actually went 5 for 5. I don't think he is ready by where he was drafted. If he was truly the stud you were making him out to be then he would have been PICKED in the top 5 rounds and gotten that 500k plus signing bonus! Someone who is that good doesn't slip past all MLB clubs to the 43rd round. It just doesn't happen and it's that simple! And if you know he was asking too much then exactly how much was he asking for?:confused: Must have been over a million or two because if he was top 5 round talent he would have gotten somewhat close to that!

Your exactly right it isn't rocket science to understand that a player drafted in the 43rd round doesn't sign for half a million or more. Please show me someone that that has happened too. You can say all you want that he technically isn't a 43rd round pick. But really when it comes down to it he is. That is where he was drafted. Just because what you say or what other people say doesn't mean it's necessarily true. Remember it's opinions here bud your not anymore right then anyone else who posts on bgp! I'm sorry but I'm not gonna believe that he was a top five round pick. If your a top five round pick you get picked and you get a large sum of money. You don't fall all the way to the 43rd round. It's just the way it is. I've had first hand experience. A player was drafted in the top five rounds and he wanted 500k but they weren't willing to give him that until the very last minute. They called and offered as he stepped foot on the college campus. He said no thanks because he told them once I'm at college don't call me with a last minute offer ahead of time. In three years he reapplied and was drafted in the top ten rounds and ended up signing for 300k. So if a player selected twice in the top 10 rounds had a hard time getting half a million I don't possible see how a 43rd round pick can get it. People like to embellish things like this instead of just being content with the accomplishment of being drafted out of high school. Farris was a stud in high school and was drafted in the 43rd round just like Maile. Both players are around the same caliber hence why they were taken in the same round two different years! To be honest with you I don't see how the Red Sox are going to sign a 43rd round pick to half a million dollars after he went 0 for 5 on their field! Luke is a fine young man and a great player but he needs to go to UK work on his skills and re apply in three years. His stock will do nothing but improve. However, this is MY OPINION and your entitled to your own! You can agree or disagree it makes no difference to me. But we will see what happens on august 17th.

Your right they only step up on the players they feel can get the job done. That's why they're selected in the top five rounds and given large signing bonuses! If I'm so off on many of my points please tell me how! Remember this is a website of opinions and just because you may not agree with what I have to say doesn't mean your right or I'm wrong. I don't understand this whole philosophy. If they want the kid then they will get the kid. That's how it works. If they want him so bad then he will get his money. If he doesn't get his money obviously they didn't want him as bad as your saying. If he truly has passed up on 500k I don't see how he could possibly sign more then that as a 43rd round pick. I've never seen that happen before. Also, from what your saying he really isn't a 43rd round player so the label doesn't really apply here.

Dang you must be Maile's agent if you know all this so well!:sssh: Come on your telling me that he is passing on 400k?! If so how do you know he is going to be guaranteed that when he gets out of college? How do you know if he goes to UK and doesn't play right away? Or what if he goes to UK and someone plays ahead of him? He could even pass on 400k now and then get drafted in three years and not even get 400k! I have a hard time believing a catcher drafted in the 43rd round was later offered close to half a million? If that was the case why wouldn't they just select him right away in a good round give him his money and be done with it. He's that good right? From the way you talk this kid is predestined no matter what. You act as if there is no way possible something can interfere. You have no idea what is going to happen in three years there is no guarantees! That's why people take the college route! Baseball doesn't work out he has an education to make it in the real world. I feel for this kid with all the pressure the way you talk. What if he doesn't make it?! I'm not wishing him bad luck or saying he won't one day make it. In fact I hope he does! However, if Luke was as good as you are making him out to be to date then he would have gotten his money and would have been drafted in the top five rounds. Also, I'm not saying that every catcher drafted ahead of him is better but obviously the scouts saw something in all of those 26 catchers that they didn't see in Maile hence why they were taken infront of Maile. And if your going to say well they only did that because they thought they could sign them lower etc. That wouldn't make any sense because major league baseball is a business. Good players get good contracts because they put fans in the seats and produce. I doub't the major league teams are taking the cheap route in finding players. That's right John Smoltz a future Hall iof Famer was cut today by the Boston Red Sox! Why? Because he wasn't producing well enough! They don't care who you are as long as you produce! He's better off going to college and improving his draft stock while getting a good education. If he gets his money and goes to A ball that's great too. I wish him the best of luck! But imo he needs to go to college. It's a win win. P.S. Very seldom does a player come out of high school or college and make a major league ball club. Ben Revere (sp?) was drafted by the Minnesota Twins in the first round. He played rookie ball after being drafted in the first round! If you want to make it in the big leagues face it your going to have to one day wake up at 10 a.m. and play in 98 degree weather. It's the way the system works and there is probably less then a 1% chance of players beating that system!

I agree with Oscar. Yes Luke indeed is very good in the ninth region as well as on the Colonels summer team. However, it's much different when your are facing top notch competition day in day out. Such as pitchers throwing in the 90's consistenly. Also, he does need improvement in all facets of the game. It's quite an accomplishment to be drafted out of High School but if Luke was totally ready for pro ball then he would have been selected much higher and he would have gotten the signing bonus he wanted. Major league teams select big time players and reward them with big signing bonuses. Not to say that Luke won't one day be there but right now he isn't. He needs to go to UK improve his draft stock over the next three years while getting a close to free education.

Where did I say The Sox have no interest in him? If they drafted him I'm sure they would have interest in him. Just like I said in previous posts I'm sure the Sox have interest in all their draft picks. For example, Farris was drafted in the 43rd round however I don't believe he even went to Chicago he just announced he's headed to UK. I'm saying I think before the draft Luke expected to go much higher and was ready to skip college. I still think he wants to go that route thats why he is going to fenway to work out and negotiate. IMO, most players who go that late and have a D1 scholarship would just say I'm going to go ahead and sign if they give me the money I want or they say I'm going to college to improve my draft stock.

IMO, I think Luke was expecting to skip college and sign until he was drafted in the 43rd round. I don't think a player would still be heading to Boston to try and work out/negotiate if he didn't have this in mind.

I understand what you are saying but i don't agree that he is a top ten round pick. If he was that good to go in the top ten rounds I don't see why they would have a hard time drafting him. Even if he was asking for alot of money unless it was a ridiculous amount. And that goes for all the teams. The Red Sox were the only team that were going to take him? I just have a hard time believeing that a top ten round pick falls all the way to 43 round. Now if he was suppose to go in the top ten rounds then went in the top 20 rounds it might be a little different. I guess Luke is the only player in high school out there asking for alot of money? The Red Sox took 14 High School kids in rounds 10 to 43. I guess all 14 of those guys weren't asking for too much money? Also, you are saying they are losing a 43 round pick however you are clearly stating that he really isn't a 43 round pick. You are saying he is really a top ten round pick but was just drafted in the 43 round because he was asking for alot of money. :confused:

That's not what I'm saying. It doesn't hurt to get an education while playing 3 years of college baseball to improve your draft position. I don't think it's wise to come out of high school when your drafted in the 43 round, just my opinion. If he was truly a top 20 round pick I don't see how he could possibly fall all the way to the 43 round. The Red Sox took 14 players out of High School that were drafted from rounds 11 to 43. So would it be accurate to say that they are doing the same exact thing with Luke they're with all of them if they don't sign right away?

I also agree. Luke won Mr. Baseball on his whole body of work not just this year. This year in my opinion Isler had the better year. This is a very impressive award. Congratultions and best of luck in the future.

I do not understand why a scholrship to a D1 school would scare any team off. Don't most of these kids who are being drafted out of high school have a D1 scholarships? If not I don't see why they would be drafting them anyway. Also, it seemed like to me if a team took Luke in the top 5 rounds he was ready to sign and head to the minors. So if he was that good already why wouldn't they have picked him. I know Luke is very good I just think he isn't a top 5 to 10 round pick yet. That's why he wasn't selected there. As for watching him, why wouldn't the Red Sox do that with all of their draft picks. If they select them in the draft, I bet their hoping they can sign as many as possible. I doubt they just draft players and say either you can sign or leave it. They obviously see something in all of their draft picks so I don't get why they would just run them off. Luke is best off going to UK and getting his education. It's a win win. If the baseball doesn't pan out then he has a good education to fall back on. Plus he has a great opportunity to go to UK and have a great career and improve his draft stock. That way when he is drafted he will be much higher and be much more likely to play right away in the minors.

I completely agree. I think to ask for that much money to sign coming straight out of high school is a bit far fetched. If your a well deserving top five round pick then you will get picked and you will get your money.

If his number is slighty lower than that then I don't understand why he wasn't taken in the first ten rounds? Isn't that a normal signing bonus for rounds one through ten?

Where is he going to college?

I was told he was projected to go between round 5-10 and no later than 15. Was it because he already has a scholarship? If so I don't think that would hurt his chances because there are numerous high school players who have honored a college scholarship but were still drafted high. Just goes to show you how much more likely you are to get drafted if your from California, Florida, Texas, etc.

Slusher 2 PA and 1 k Brady Slusher?

Maile, Isler, Darner, Nutuni, and Krumme's pitching really carried this team the past 3 years. Although these five players stats are impressive it has to be extremely disappointing that they couldn't convert on one of the three regional appearances. It's also dissappointing that this class was so strong even with the few kids that quit and they have nothing to really show for it besides a good record and some individual stats.
