Regardless of the Romes aspect. NKU has flat out missed on some real local talent and that's a fact. It would have been nice too see players like Romes, Pelle, Nestheide and I'm sure there are many more excel there.

Just because they are different players doesn't make my claims invalid. Plus if Romes ended up at a school like NKU we would definitely be seeing him shoot outside more as he would be playing a 3 spot. And actually I have watched NKU for several years so don't embarrass yourself by making false claims. Remember this is my opinion and yours and just because you might think your right doesn't make you actually right. It's all opinionated. Sorell might fit the system in the sense he can stand and wait to get his shot up after someone penetrates. But why couldn't Romes be the one penetrating? Also, Romes can shoot the three as I have said he just chooses not to as much as Corey does. He benefits more at MSJ by taking close high percentage shots as we saw with him leading the nation in field goal percentage or being very close too. Why wouldn't NKU want to have a kid who can get to the rack and score. I'm pretty sure that they didn't not recruit Romes because they came to the conclusion, "Oh he doesn't fit our system." And as for your last comment I think he proved he could play at the D3 level along time ago. We are seeing more then just an average D3 player here.

As the above thread states he had 169 assists last season. Pelle can play either he one or two. Pelle is a flat out player as he really excelled in AAU with Shining Star Sports. I can recall a few games where he actually went up a dunked on players. NKU really missed out because he is better than any guard NKU can supply unless they recently got a D1 guard transfer who is a flat out stud.

First off I know how Romes plays because I have watched him play since he was little. Second, yes he did get points that way but I'm referring to the fact in High School he didn't take many threes. He look more to drive to the basket and he often got the ball in the post or wing where he made moves to score. If he was in a system other than beechwood (Possibly if he stayed at CCH) he might have used his three ball and jumper alot more. The difference with Sorrell is that he relied much more on the three than Romes did. I guarantee if you look at both of their shot attempts Sorrell's threes to Romes' was probably 5 or 6 to 1.

If what you say is true then there is no question that Justice will be getting an offer if Pitino is only looking to see if he's quick enough. But Imo there is no way. Rico and Guyn are much stronger, bigger, and more athletic than Justice.

And what I meant by the HC pipeline plays a factor. Well Bibbons walked on at NKU and earned a scholarship so imo they were more willing to give a scholarship to corey. What if Romes attends HC things might have been a little different. But I'm not saying oh if Romes went to HC then he would be at NKU becuase Bezold only takes HC players.

I never onced said Sorrell didn't belong there or couldn't play there. I said imo in high school Romes was a more complete player and still is. I meant if Sorrell can play there then there is no reason why Romes can't. For both you and Clyde to look at. Elisha is a great player however it will shock me if they offer him. Especially with players like Ricardo Johnson in state along with Guyn from Scott County. There is no question here whether those two are quick enough, big enough, or athletic enough to play in the Big East.

Also, Clyde let's not forget that Romes has an excellent outside shot just chooses not to shoot many three's. In High School he had to play more down low as he continues to do at MSJ.

The same goes for Pelle. He would definitely be starting at NKU. Who is better then him there right now? Bibbons not a chance. Rack not a chance.

Who are these five D1's you speak of? If this is true then why isn't NKU winning championships? I think it's fair to say, Clyde, you are a CCH fan so let's not have sour grapes here. Romes flat out filled it up in High School after transferring and he is continuing to do so at MSJ. To say he doesn't belong on the floor at NKU is false because he cant definitely play at that level and a be a contributor. Romes on pure raw talent was imo better than Sorrell in High School. But a Holy Cross pipeline plays a factor. Who does NKU have that is head and shoulders above Romes?

As for the past two years you can't really say that the team play concept will return. 2 years ago they made it to the regional finals and lost to Holmes. Yes they certainly could have won that game however someone decided to take the game in his own hands by taking too many shots and making bad choices resulting in a loss. However that Holmes team was stacked as well(Not like that loss was so schocking). The problem with that team was there was too many head strong players with bad attitudes and there wasn't enough ball to go around for everyone. Nonethless, that team was very successful knocking off #2 in the state Lex Cath at their home opener, taking Mason County with Darius Miller to the wire two times, and knocking off the golden boys from Elliot County. When this team played as a team they were hard to beat. IMO, one of the best in the state. Last year, as I said earlier was a fluke of a season that just never turned around. When you lose your point guard who started last season and was ranked in the top 5 of the region it has its affects. There were only 2 players on that team who had varsity experience. (Maile and Shover) Not to mention they both as jr's led the team in scoring. Shover also led in assists. Ives, Counts, Isler, Sorrell, Wellbrock, Pauly, and Machinot never even played in a varsity game up to that point. All they had was Maile and all Maile thought was Maile! Plain and simple it's hard to have a successful team when you don't have a pointguard, young and inexperienced, and only have one guy to rely on who isn't going for the team concept! If you look at past Colonels teams, this team was similar in make up just without a point guard. However the talent of the supporting cast wasn't as great as previous years. The overall issue is other schools are getting just as good if not better talent then CCH and it's starting to catch up. CCH's doesn't even have one player in the top ten this year and they were ranked luckily as preseason #10. Which is controversial. This has to be the worst combinations of rankings in over a decade! Whether anyone wants to accept it or not CCH is going to struggle really bad this year and it's because of multiple reasons! 1. The level of talent on their team is really weak compared to Holmes, Boone, and Highlands etc. 2. Inexperience at the varsity level will kill them. 3. Poor outside shooting and lack of a true total package player who can really carry them (Most likely Thelen but not until senior year) Yes this year they might play more team ball but it's because they have no choice not too. They don't have those solid 2 to 3 players that carry the team and have a solid supporting cast. Ex: Nestheide and B. Votel supported by Erpenbeck, Kennedy, R. Votel, Witzgal similar to Tierney, Jacobs, B. Votel

Yes of course you recruit what you need but that doesn't mean you lower your recruiting standards. Also, I'm pretty sure Bibbons had to walk on in order to eventually earn a scholarship. That is the Holy Cross pipeline for ya!

Lets just face it there are several kids NKU has passed up on that could have been big contributors!

I'm sorry Sandman I have to disagree here. Romes is completely capable of contributing and being a key factor on a team like NKU. If you didn't know he led all of D3 in field goal % his sophomore or jr year. The kid progressively got better and better as he entered college. That's another thing successful college coaches do is recruit potential. If Corey Sorrell can play at NKU there is no reason why Romes can't! Sorrell might overall be a better outside shooter but there is no comparison between the two when getting to the rack and scoring. Romes is a solid all around player and I think NKU really missed out on him. If you haven't seen Romes play in awhile you need to take a trip across the river and maybe you'll edit your post!

This, imo, is a perfect example of NKU missing out on some quality local talent. Imo, Nestheide was better then both Bibbons and Mcfarland.

You have to take into consideration that last year was a fluke of a season for CCH. Going into the season they were ranked 2 or 3 in the region with two top 10 players in the region. People got sick and things fell apart. Imo, it really wasn't a reflection of what the team should have been. It was a complete struggle all season long and nothing ever clicked. This year the Colonels have no option besides relying on team ball. There is no one on that team that can actually take the team on his back and carry the load. They are going to need consistent tough defense along with multiple people scoring. I think you will see in each games different players leading in scoring other than Jake Thelen. Imo, he will become their most consistent and dominant player. Look for his senior season to be a special one.

I'm sorry guys I'm just not buying it. Just my opinion though. I wish the kid the best. It's always great seeing kids playing college ball.

Also, that's great he worked his tail off to get noticed however that only helps so much. When it comes down to it you have to flat out be a player at the end of the day.

Multiple offers? from whom? and additional ones from who? So your telling me a kid who couldn't even get enough minutes to break a sweat at the High School level got multiple offers at the D2 level and more? If this kid was really that legit then NCC needs to find a new coach for not playing this kid. Any kid who is D2 worthy should be a star on the high school level. There are multiple kids who imo were much more skilled then this kid and only ended up at a D3 NAIA etc.

Well thats good news for the Colonels.

The Colonels X factor will definitely be Conley. Kid is very athletic and can make things happen.

CCH will struggle immensely this year simply due to the fact of how good the competition around them is. They have vary seldom proven players. Wellbrock can rebound and thats it. You can't expect him to put up many points. Thelen will be CCH's best option. He has improved his post game and has a nice jump shot. I look for Trey Evans if all things go right, to make the most impact at the guard position. Pauly is fundamental and tries hard however compared to the more athletic guards in the region he won't be able to keep up. (Holmes gaurds, Gabbard, Popp, Mcleish, Stephens) Trey brings a little more athleticism to the table but his inexperience at the varsity level may hurt them. IMO, this is definitely going to be a huge rebuilding year for the Colonels. Last year, yet depleted lost all of their main players. For most of this team it will be their first year of varsity action. With teams like Holmes, Boone, Highlands, Ryle the Colonels will be lucky to crack the top 5 or so by the end of the year.

Imo, NKU has a great talent pool in the 9th region and greater cincy area to recruit from but I don't feel like they really take advantage of that. Especially as much as they did when Kenny Shields was there. That got them a few championships as well.
