I agree. IMO it was just an attempt to make the game appear to have been a blow out. Which it was not!

Let's face it. Many high school football players will not have the opportunity to play at the next level. So the life lessons that Coach Lickert and staff are teaching these young men are invaluable. Winning is important, and anyone who knows Coach Lickert can vouch for the fact that it is extremely important to him. But in order to win, the little things must be in place. Coach Lickert has very high expectations for his players both off and on the field. I hear many people are pleasantly surprised with the new attitudes and sportsmanship of his players. With a great deal of hard work on the part of his players and coaches, the Holmes Football players will not only be better athletes but also better people. Whereas Coach Lickert may not "merit a medal of honor" with only two wins, possibly the work he and his coaches are doing to help develop these young men as responsible community members does.

I'm sure that Coach Lickert isn't counting on "catching" Highlands in any state. He will prepare his kids to play a team that he knows has a great deal of talent, discipline and tradition. He seems to expect the best from his players each week and this is no different. They will come to play and I don't think anyone is counting on an easy break. Anything can happen on any given day! :thumb: Go HHS!

I wouldn't be counting your eggs before they are hatched DollarBill. When Highlands coaching staff scheduled Holmes last year I don't think they could have envisioned the coaching changes at Holmes. Coach Lickert took a team at Dayton that was 9 and 45 and transformed them into a 14 and 16 team in 3 years (I could be a little off on the wins and losses but they are close). The Holmes staff has a bunch of athletic kids to work with. If the staff can get their athletes heads on straight I think we all might be suprised.

As I watched the Holmes-Dayton game I just kept thinking it was "dejavu all over again". Holmes kids looked just like Dayton's kids did 3 years ago before Coach Lickert taught them about commitment and what it takes to win. Holmes will come around to his way of thinking sooner than later. Holmes by 7.
