I followed this streak as it neared 50. I started thinking about the kids' mindset, even in light of Coach Kevin Wallace's admonition to not think about the streak but just about the next down. Then I imagined myself as a 17-year-old kid. Right, I can can put that out of my mind. Even if it wasn't a very good TN team you were playing without several key players, even if all the bounces go right during the game (and when does that happen?), even if you're playing weak teams (and that certainly wasn't the case) ... at some point in time, during a critical play, "the streak" creeps into my brain and I think of that instead of what I have to do. Or before I have to do it. Or in between one play and the next. I just can't imagine how hard this was on the entire staff as it approached. Hats off to the Purples for getting to 48. I couldn't have done it.
