February 23, 201214 yr Would prostitution be ok if the money went to the church? How about the profits from drug sales? Prostitution might as well be legal and free. The government does to us what a prostitute would but the government is for free.
February 23, 201214 yr Look, I can accept some people, especially the clergy will oppose it. HOWEVER, using hyperbole like being afraid a scourge will befall us is absurd. It's extreme. I can respect a logical argument rooted in fact. I can't stomach fear mongering, which is exactly what using such a phrase is doing. I'm not a fan of that style either and it certainly would never work with me. Unfortunately some people involved in religion and politics seem to think it's effective. And sometimes it is, usually with the more ignorant.
February 23, 201214 yr Perhaps the lyrics to one of Arron Tippin's good ole' country songs will help here... "You got to stand for something or you'll fall for anything, You got to be your own man, not a puppet on a string, Never compromise whats right, and uphold your family name, You got to stand for something, or you'll fall for anything.":clap::clap:
February 23, 201214 yr Honestly, does anyone think that casino gambling will take away from church bingos? I don't. Have you seen those people who go to bingos? They're absolutely crazy-obsessed! Can you answer this for me? How much money does a casino make a month? round about number. Of that money, how much goes back to the state?
February 23, 201214 yr Can you answer this for me? How much money does a casino make a month? round about number. Of that money, how much goes back to the state? Depends on the size and location of the casino, as well as the season. In Indiana, it varies from the single digits millions, to (for most) in the double digits. In Indiana, 40% goes to the state, plus a $3 per turn at the turnstile.

In Indiana, 40% goes to the state, plus a $3 per turn at the turnstile. Let's work this out for a minute. Based on the info you provided, let's say a casino brings in an average of $5M a month. Let's say 2.5M people visit the casino in a year's time (I think that number is a very low estimate, but :idunno:). If we do the math on that: ($5M x 12 months) * 40% = 24,000,000 a year. Add to that the turnstile cuts (2.5M * $3) = $7.5M, and you get roughly $31,500,000 of revenues that the state is missing out on. Looks like KY is missing the boat.
February 23, 201214 yr I agree Ky is losing money by not having casinos, but I still would vote no. It is not the solution to the problem, and I dont know what is the solution. Do casinos have places to make bets on sports games like Vegas?
February 23, 201214 yr Mtn Ref, you still haven't answered my question from earlier....Are you also against drinking alcohol, smoking cigarettes, and pain medications?

My question to you is now this: What do you feel we can do to increase indsutry/business/jobs in Kentucky? Keep in mind, Indiana just passed the Right To Work legislation.
February 23, 201214 yr Mtn Ref, you still haven't answered my question from earlier....Are you also against drinking alcohol, smoking cigarettes, and pain medications? Since I do neither, might as well. hahaha Smoking cigarettes yes I am. pain medicine, no, but we do need responsible DRs giving it out, not like the pain clinics in Fla. alcohol, I see nothing wrong with a beer or glass of wine with dinner. Drinking a pint and beating your wife or kids, that is another arguement. It all depends on the person and how much will power they have. No one is putting a gun to anyones head and forcing them to do anything. It is their choice, we just need to make our kids make better resonable choices. A lot of people fall prey to bad choices and then cant get back. No will power.

One thing I would like to see is a recycle place you can get money for things like plastic, glass, or paper. This would be a few jobs. Put people to work putting up wind mills to generate energy, put up solar panels in places. I know Obama had a Green Jobs plan but I havent heard of it lately. That was 1 idea I liked that he had.

It is their choice, we just need to make our kids make better resonable choices. A lot of people fall prey to bad choices and then cant get back. No will power. I agree with very much of this. (See miracles do happen. ) I think its the same with gambling. Sure it can become and addiction that destroys familes and lives, but so can alcohol, sex, pain meds, etc. The key is, as with everything, moderation. Just because gambling can be addictive doesn't mean we should just automatically ban it. Those who are addicts will be addicts whether KY has casinos or not. We shouldn't penalize those who are responsible about it (such as yourself from the example you shared), because a small percentage of folks can't handle it.

We do have quite a few recycling centers around. But, that's a very limited number of jobs. A lot of places have drop off points, from which the recycling is collected then takent in for recycling at a central center. I agree it would be nice to see some "green" jobs move in. But, I'm not sure about whether Kentucky has any incentives for luring such companies, nor the logistics of procuring the land for the windmill farms....or even if Kentuckians would welcome them. Having been to Chicago recently, I look at the area north of LaFayette IN in awe.

I thought the numbers were much bigger than that even. Although they're expected to drop with Ohio also adding them. Still huge numbers out there.
