Game not that close. Brossart led by 11-15 throughout. Saints closed the gap late against BB JVs.

 

Like us or not you have to respect the job that second year head coach Josh Feldmann has done with his kiddy corps this season. Struggling early, they turn the corner after the Boone County loss, finish the regular season at 24-6 while winning the 37th District top seed, winning the 10th Region "A" and playing in the "A" State final four along the way, and then capping it off by winning the NKAC D-II title with a win over Highlands. Josh wins both of his "contract games" - NCC and Campbell County and goes into the post-season seemingly destined for the 37th District championship game and a run in the 10th Region Tournament.

 

Great season!!!! Sorry I don't have any game stats, I switched off of our game immediately followng the conclusion to listen in to the finish of the COvCath-Madison Central boys game from Park Hills.

Great job Mustang on the recap. Sounds like Coach Douglas kept her starters in against the jv team of Brossart?

Brossart D was way to much to handle for Saint Patrick. Coach Feldman has done a great job this year, super nice guy.

Somewhere in the corner of the St. Patrick gymnasium you can almost hear Sonny and Cher singing “The Beat Goes On.” That is how the season continues to go for the Lady 'Stangs of Bishop Brossart as they kept with their winning ways beating St. Patrick in Maysville tonight 53-45 on the Lady Saints Senior Night just a little over a month after their last meeting when Bishop Brossart beat St. Patrick 45-29 on January 14th to clinch the Touchstone Energy All “A” Classic Tenth Region title. The Lady 'Tangs went on after that to finish third in the big show in Frankfort.

This one was all Bishop Brossart as they got the show rolling in the junior varsity game beating the Lady Saints 35-10.

In the varsity game Brossart jumped to an early 17-9 advantage after the first quarter and extended that to 34-23 by the half. Brossart played a lot of people in this encounter with ten different Lady 'Stangs reaching the scoring column. They stretched the lead to 44-29 after three and then coasted for the easy victory.

Earlier in the week St. Patrick had played Montgomery Co. tough in Mt. Sterling before falling 60-53. The Lady Saints finish the regular season with the fifth best record in the 10th Region at 16-13. Bishop Brossart is now 24-6 and their win enables them to have regular season bragging rights as the team in the 10th Region with the most wins. A win by Montgomery tonight in their final game would give them 23.

The Lady 'Stangs out shot St. Patrick and out rebounded their Class A foes. They used balanced scoring and one again got solid defense holding St. Pat's Chelsea Douglas to just six points.

The 10th Region's winningest team and new NKAC Division II Champions were led in scoring by Junior rachel Hartig with 12 followed by Sophomore Sarah Futcher and Junior Maria Greis who each had 10. Sophomores Cori Ziegler and Megan Dierig added 5 each as well for the top seed in the 37th District Tournament next week.

Lykins led a veteran St. Patrick team in scoring with 15 points

Coach Josh Feldmann's team will prepare now for the winner of the Scott (3-26) and Silver Grove (2-25) winner on Wednesday in District Play. A win will place them in the Region Tournament for the third straight year. Both the District and Region will be just down the street at the Campbell County Middle School.

Anymore royals on the Brossart bandwagon tonight? Feldman has given you the road to success, combine weak officiating with the will to absolutely plummet the opposing teams point guard and you get a win in your belt. Problem is you run into good officials sooner or later. I guess later would be the royals hope.

Brossart is going to be a tough out in the region, they play the best D in the 10th. Wouldn't surprise me if Brossart wins the 10th. Saint Patrick couldn't get anything going the last two times they have played Brossart. Saint Patrick can do some damage as well if they get past Mason Co.

 

Good luck to both teams in district.

Weak officiating? I don't know. If you ask me, St Patrick Lady Saints worst enemy is not the officials......their worst enemy is St Patrick School. The Lady Saints lost several players this year and they have themselves to blame. With Hamm, Hamilton, Stanfield, Yeary, Swolsky no longer on the team.......well, I think their season could have ended with a much better record and possibly a second All A region title. All of the above named would have been a big help to the lady Saints team. As for the JV at St Pat, next year will not be a pretty season. I do think they will win the district next week, but then again the 39th district is very weak. Mason County has been doing better, so who knows? Just my opinion.

I don't see Brossart upending Montgomery County, but if there is anyone that can do it, I think they're the most likely. Their defense will keep them in a lot of games against opponents like Montgomery that may be more talented.

 

Kind of surprised by how this game played out. Lady Saints have been playing some really good basketball.

Ok, weak on english but here is some History for you. When you got to the all a state what happened. The illegal hand checking of the offensive team advancing the basketball will not work with good officials period.

Not to mention Walters with a ACL and Fowler with bad knees. Everything was set up for this year but for one reason or another it wasn't meant to be. Seven upper classwomen would have been hard for a large school to overcome much less a school the size of a St. Patricks. Let me tell you about the freshmen and eight grade at St. Patrick, they improve daily and step in and play hard when needed, heck the eight grade towers over the varsity. I would guess that Mason will try Brossart success in lets get them in a numbers Game. We Love LH

I did forget about Fowler and realized that after I posted. Walters in her fifth year at St Patrick, only played her freshman year, so I can't really say what they lost in her. She was an average player as a freshman, but not playing for her Soph and Jr years, I can't really say whether or not she had improved to the level of the other seniors. She did get a nice life-sized banner on Friday, though, for her effort.

 

As for the JV, I'm sure they have improved but they are way behind other JV squads. Height means nothing is you don't have fundamental skills. The same teams that defeated them this year will be playing them next year and those teams are improving as well.

 

As for players that left the team/school for "one reason or another", of the five I named originally, I'm pretty sure all had to do with issues with the administration at St Pat. If it hadn't been for the administration, I feel sure four of those five would still have been playing for the Lady Saints. Again I'll say it St Patrick School is (was) the Lady Saints worst enemy. And the students and parents there are afraid to speak up when they see something is wrong. (Just keep your mouth shut so your child doesn't get picked on next.)

 

As for the district, I would like to see Mason defeat St Patrick, simply because the school benefits financially and in my opinion the school shouldn't benefit, since they have done nothing to help those seniors have the great season they should have had, except to screw it up for them. You are right when you say that everything was set up for this year. Douglas, Tolle, and Coach Douglas have worked their butts off year round and deserved a better Senior season, but the egos of a couple of people at the school/church got in the way. But then again, a lot of people just sat by and watched for fear would be the next to be picked on by the administration. What a shame.
