Didn't Mason win State in 2004 and 2008? I'm pretty sure they had a good following those years.

Close. 2003 and 2008.

An unnamed 10th region coach whose team was not rated highly to start the season told me the region was "weak as water" and "wide open."

Was he correct? Seems so to an outsider like me.

Relatively weak compared to the past several years. Not looking as wide open as many thought at the beginning of the season.

Is Harris really going to play? Its great that he is getting healthy, but will it be for basketball or still prepping for UK.

I think the 10th is clear in it's top two teams. Honestly think the following 6 teams on a good night could take it as well.

How were the teams ranked to the start the season? Are the favorites still the favorites?

Wasn't GRC ranked lower than they are now?

GRC was ranked 6th in the Cats Paws preseason rankings.

I knew that. Warren Central won in '04. Mason County was runner up that year, right?

So.......

State CHAMPIONS in 2003 and 2008.

State runner up in 2004

State Semi-Finalist in 2010

and they haven't had a good crowd since 2003?

Doesn't make sense to me.

What is the reason for the non-support?

George Rogers Clark High School Cards back to winning

George Rogers Clark didn’t overreact to a 53-49 loss to Woodford County earlier this week.

The Cardinals simply rolled up their sleeves and went back to work and responded with a 59-44 victory over Mason County in front of a packed house Friday night at Norton Gymnasium.

“Their intensity was great,” Mason County coach Chris O’Hearn said afterward. “We didn’t match it.”

The Royals (12-12) narrowed the lead to 30-25 at the break, but Clark (22-4) pulled away in the second half to get the win.

Bopper Stenzel scored 12 of Clark’s first 17 points and led all scorers with 24 points. Stenzel drained four of his team’s seven shots from long range and collected 15 points in the opening half.

Humphrey singled out a hustle play by Charlie Rogers that led to back-to-back 3-pointers — one by Stenzel and another by Malachi Isreal — to end the third quarter that gave his squad an added boost. The extra effort and back-to-back treys pushed the lead to double figures for good. The two treys gave the hosts a 47-36 lead going into the final eight minutes.

“Charlie made a hustle play that saved us an extra possession and had it domino into six points,” Humphrey said. “That was huge at that time of the game.”

Adam Fatkin followed Stenzel’s lead with 16 points, with 10 of those coming in the second half. Fatkinhad six in the third quarter that gave his team some breathing room going into the final eight minutes.

Tyler Black scored 13 points in the first half and paced the Royals with 20 points.

Next game: Today, 3 p.m., vs. South Laurel at Norton Gymnasium.

To answer your questions.

#1 Rankings from the Cats Pause:

1 Montgomery Co

2 Pendleton Co

3 Harrison Co

4 Campbell Co

5 Mason Co

6 GRC

7 Bishop Brossart

8 Scott

9 Bourbon Co

10 Augusta

#2 GRC would be the favorite now and Montgomery Co second.

#3 GRC, according to this persons ranking, was not a contender for the region this year, and sure wasn't thought to be state ranked. He has GRC ranked 6th and now they are the #1 team in the 10th

Personally I knew we would be good this year, and that the #6 ranking was too low, just didn't know we would be this good. Howard has been a suprise player for GRC this year. He improves every game.

With a few regional games left to play, it will be interesting to see posters ranking right before tourny time.

This was the last regional game for the Cards in regular season. Very tough schedule coming up for the Cards. The Lafayette game has been canceled and replaced with Simon Kenton, which is a very hot team right now and only lost to Henry Clay by 2. Then we close out the season with Henry Clay which has just defeated the #1 or # 2 (depend which poll) in Madison Central and #4 Scott County.

Congrats on the win Cards!!! I really expected this game to be closer.

Did Chambers play in this game? He usually helps quite a bit.

Yes he did. He was held to 0 points.

Tyler Black paced the Royals with 20 points, with a significant chunk of them coming off jumpers. His usual running mates in the post and two pleasant surprises for Mason most of the season, Shawn Johnson and Steven Chambers, were held to two and zero points, respectively.
