You're wild, son.

I like to think Rock music died when Kurt did, but Jack and Meg can put up enough argument to say they were the last of a dying breed.

Nothing out there right now I could use to symbolize "rock". I mean there's a lot of indie type rock and a lot of alt stuff but IMO The Stripes were the last great American Rock Band unless somebody else comes along and proves otherwise. I don't want to hear about The Black Keys or any other group like that, IMO they are more indy/alternative than just straight up rock music.

I don't know if I agree with that. I think the White Stripes were fairly "alternative" in that they didn't fit into a mold, which I find fairly similar to the Black Keys who might be more mainstream than the WS. What's your beef with independent labels?

You may not want to hear about it but they are definitely rock. If you want to get into sub-genre's than Nirvana was Grunge and The White Stripes are Garage Rock.

Ever listened to A Perfect Circle? That'll change your mind. Maynard's best project.

Huge TOOL fan, of course I've heard APC. Actually going to see TOOL on Saturday.

I love APC and really enjoy their music but I guess it just doesn't fit my schema of what "rock" is. I know everyone has different thoughts of what they define as rock music but I am basically saying just straight up Rock. As bad as I hate to say it the AC/DC type "rock" music. Maybe 90's Alice In Chains "rock" music. Just the bands that when you hear it you are like man thats rock. APC can span many different genres, TOOL doesn't really have a genre, Drive By Truckers is more less Southern Rock, Black Keys are Indie Rock. It's like music has basically overtime intertwined and created multiple crossbreeds of rock music and pure rock and roll has been left in the rear view a long time ago. Everything in rock music is basically a hybrid nowadays. Whether its indie rock, southern rock, alternative, punk, emo, scraemo, metal, hardcore, thrash, etc. So to me and what I see as rock, The Stripes were one of the last bands left on a big scale who really showcased what rock music was and is. Some of the last good rock bands can maybe have an influence and influence great rock bands in the future but basic rock is just not really in the music library at the moment.

And again, all just my opinions. No one is ever really right or wrong simply just matter of opinion/preference. I know everyone has their own outlook but that's why I love it. I like to hear other peoples thoughts and see how they look at things. I especially love discussing and debating music.

That's what I'm saying, to me the Stripes were rock.

What I was also saying and meaning is there isn't a band out there that I could use to symbolize "rock" music on a big scale without putting it into some other kind of category. Everything has faded away from basic rock music now. When Nirvana came out they weren't known as a "grunge" band, grunge became the genre because of the way all the guys out of that Seattle scene were dressing, particularly Nirvana. They were grungy. But they weren't known as a "grunge" band until after a while. To me, they were rock. I mean simple basic rock principles but very effective. I mean came in and rocked. Same could be said for the Stripes. Nothing flashy nothing extravagant just pure straight up rock. All the newer rock music coming out is a hybrid of multiple rock genres. Nothing is really pure rock on a big stage anymore IMO, The Stripes were the last of the new rock bands (there are still older rock bands who came out before the Stripes still going).

No beef with Independent labels. I prefer Independent stuff. I am almost totally against all and everything commercial so sorry to paint that kind of picture. To be honest though most everything I listen to besides what plays on SiriusXM is from an independent label or an artist who started out predominantly for an independent label.
